When I visited their store, looking to bring home a baby guinea pig, Richard asked me what breed, gender, and color I was looking for, and proceeded to travel to East Haven and pick one out, just for me! I couldn't believe that he would go so far out of his way, to make one customer happy. From the moment we walked in, the groomer had an aggressive energy that made me hesitant to leave my dog, but I decided to give it a chance. I received a call saying things were going well--until suddenly, he snapped and bit her. While I absolutely don't condone that behavior, I have to be honest: her demeanor felt off from the start. Even when I returned, she had an attitude that felt more like "deal with your dog" than concern. My mini doodle showed no aggression toward her when I picked him up, which makes me feel like he was reacting to how he was being handled. What also confused me was the grooming process. She shaved him down before even washing him, despite saying she would work through the mats first. It's concerning because it feels like the grooming was rushed, and maybe that's when a mistake was made--perhaps he was nicked or mishandled. Instead of acknowledging that, the blame seems to be placed solely on the dog. After reading other reviews, I'm not the only one who feels like some of the groomers here lack the patience and care dogs deserve. Grooming should be done with gentleness, not fear or frustration, and unfortunately, that's not what we experienced today

When I finally looked up at her, she was looking at me like I had 3 heads. I'm not a talkative person by any means but I do make small talk at the register because who doesn't?? Common courtesy is so simple yet so many people lack it. If someone says something to you, you respond back.. The cashier: long dark hair, sweatpants and a t-shirt seems miserable and was rude. I complained to the manager and all he did was interrupt me, wouldn't let me get a word in and gave me excuses. "She's soft spoken" blah blah. Eventually I got frustrated enough to swear on the phone because he kept talking over me and he ended up trying to end the call so I said "F you". It could've been different had he just listened for 2 minutes because I never talk to people like that. The manager was just as childish and rude as the cashier. One of the worst experiences I've ever had at a Petco.

There were two groomers on Sunday, August 2nd at 4pm. It was aggressively, rubbing her hands all over her face, pulling at her lips because she's a boxer and she thought she had big lips and was stretching them like they were wings.. she continued to rub her face like she was rubbing a crystal ball. You could tell my dog was not happy. I asked her politely not to do that, but she didn't listen or didn't hear me. I don't know which one.. then she went to the counter and she wanted to put cream on my dog nose and I said no she has allergies and I did was only there to have her nails clipped nothing else. With this being said, I will no longer bring my dog to PetSmart in Berlin because of this individual.

She actually just texted me with pictures of the parents of the goldendoodle we purchased (it's after 7pm). I did call the store one day when Allison was out and Pete answered the phone, he wanted to know how the dog was doing, said he has been with the store for decades and if we need anything to just call him. GREAT STAFF. We were talking to some breeders directly and the communication was horrible. Gary has some great employees. Even the woman who bathed and did our dog's claws after purchase clearly LOVED dogs. Very positive store experience. The Neutral: My dog, as others have mentioned was timid and easily startled when first home, but I think that's normal. He's only 10 weeks old, arrived from Missouri only a week before. That's a lot of changes for a little guy. So we have been making sure to keep the house a little quieter and trying to not make noise when he is eating. Basically like the instructions from Gary (Owner) say, no playing or excitement for 3 days. It's day 3 now and the dog (Reilly) is really much more active, running around the house, eating better, and seems to be adapting well to us and the house. The unexpected: Day 3, the little guy seems to have developed a cough. Could be from the stress of the move, he didn't seem to have this when we brought him home. I spoke to Allison about this and was told we would be reimbursed if we were unable to get back up to CT to see their Vet. (We are an hour away). Update: He seems a little better today, he has his check-in/check-up anyway so we just moved up the date at the vet to make sure he's on the right track. I am sure he will be fine. The less positive: When we originally called on the phone, we were told one general price from the Owner for the dogs were were interested in. At checkout the dog price increased more than 50%. We were able to negotiate, but we felt it could have been handled better. The only reason we feel we didn't overpay is because the service and aftercare have been wonderful. And when you get a 10-11 week old baby, believe me you will have questions. This is my third dog, but I quickly realized pups this young are infants, more vulnerable, do more dumb things, eating well and not getting sick is really important.
