What a gem for vintage shopping with such warm and welcoming proprietors! We had a great time perusing this expansive collection of furniture, clothing, kitchen/home goods (common, collectibles, and fine), art, music and movies on various formats, and so much more. They also have a wellspring of inspiration and goodies for 'found/upcycled object' artists since they have large collections of some random items (like hundreds of clear large-sized pieces of monacle-type glass). This is a large store right on Pacific Avenue in the central section of San Pedro. The store itself is full of items, but it is still airy and easy to navigate. This place has the most amazing vintage and antique pieces! My fiancé and I drive 1.5 hours just to come here and it's so worth it because we always find such unique and interesting pieces and at great prices. Seriously, this shop is the coolest place in Pedro! I love wandering around in here because there are drawers to rifle through, bins of who-knows-what, some amazing art you have to dig to see, and always some unexpected finds. I've been shopping here for 3 years and am constantly finding unique, quirky, and beautifully sophisticated, one of a kind items. This where you go when you want the REAL deal, authentic, MCM furniture that wasn't dumped in the alley behind Burger King. With a mixture of new, vintage, retro, re-salvaged/refurbished, and local art, photos, and hard to find items, the merchandise and inventory they have is phenomenal. The prices are good and they consistently have new merch coming in so I'm almost always leaving with something I "had to have". The owners, Cathie and Larry, and the rest of the House "fam", know their $hit and will help you find whatever treasure you seek, all the while making you laugh and feel like God's Queen. I've taken everyone from my Grandma, to my college roommate, even my niece, in House and all were equally delighted by the mixture of merchandise that holds up to phrase "something for everyone". Hands down one of my favorite thrift stores in Los Angeles. I have been to numerous thrift stores over the years, as I love hunting for antiques, odds and ends, vintage clothing, etc, but they are overpriced 99% of the time, and not that friendly. The prices at House though are incredibly reasonable, and Cathy, the owner, is so easy-going and sweet. I've been trying to go once a week or so since I moved to San Pedro and have found numerous treasures, as well as great gifts for others. Definitely worth checking out! San Pedro has long been a place of hidden treasures. Well. Hidden from those that live in the corridor between Santa Monica and downtown L.A. who have probably heard vague tales of this place called San Pedro but have little idea of where it might actually be or why they should go there. Now you have a reason to use your GPS and take a safari to the unknown wilds of the South Bay. And the reason is House 1002. Normally, San Pedro discoveries are legacies of a bygone era, dusty old shops and restaurants that have been South Bay institutions for decades but House 1002 is new. Brand new. Anyone who has scoured Silver Lake and Los Feliz for unique furniture and decorative arts stores knows that great finds usually come with an equally great price tag but, at least until everyone else figures it out, the antique furniture, garden pieces, metal sculptures and an assorted mélange of one of a kind decorative objects at House 1002 are not only reasonably priced but downright criminally cheap. Maybe it's a loss leader designed to bring in new customers--maybe it's a permanent pricing strategy--but whatever the case it's worth a trip down to San Pedro sooner rather than later. It's hard to imagine some of what I saw lasting long. And since most of what they sell appear to be one of a kind, once they're gone, they're gone for good. If you're looking to decorate your apartment or home and you have a budget and you'd rather not max out your credit card buying junk made in China at Pottery Barn, this is the place for you. They don't have everything of course. I didn't see any couches or upholstered chairs for instance, but they do have things I haven't seen anywhere else. An antique high-backed Irish bench with storage in the seat, for instance, is something you would easily have to pay three times higher for at similar store in Hollywood. One of the great pleasures of House 1002 is that it has such a wide range of objects and pieces that you will find yourself spending an hour scouring through the shelves for little gems that are priced more like rocks. I found an antique chemistry beaker, for instance, for something like $22. What would you do with an antique chemistry beaker you ask? I don't know what you would do, but that's the second great pleasure of this store. It not only allows for your creative impulses, it demands creativity. There are dozens and dozens of little items like that that you could combine to make a stellar decorative piece for your home that make you happy and be the subject of conversation and praise. In fact, it's an entire store of conversation pieces--where everything comes built in with a story. My advice is to get down to this store quickly and bring a u-haul with you because leaving empty-handed is nearly impossible. read more

Unique and fun! My husband and I were on the hunt for a specific style of coffee table. With no luck in the big box stores, my coworker recommended we give this place a try. My husband and I went on a Saturday afternoon. It is located on the corner of pacific and 10th. Parking was a tad bit difficult because there is only street parking. The store itself was fairly large and filled with so much furniture, decor, and trinkets. The store was not crowded, but there were a steady stream of people coming and going. We spent over an hour browsing and looking at all the amazing pieces. We found a couple of mid century modern chairs we loved, but someone beat us to the punch and purchased them as we were debating whether we should buy them or not. Word to the wise! If you see something here and you love it, buy it or someone else will. After wandering aimlessly and not finding the coffee table we wanted, a nice young woman offered to help us. She introduced us to Larry (he makes custom pieces for the store), and he was able to create the coffee table we envisioned. From start to finish, it took about 4-5 weeks, but it was well worth it. Final thoughts: Great way to spend an afternoon, especially if you love looking at unique items. If you need a custom piece, Larry is your man. I highly recommend House 1002. read more

I used to love this place, until I heard the employees that were sitting on the chairs on the front desk speak lowly of their customers and people who sell them their things. They openly mocked and laughed talking about customers who sell them some of their things but do not, "bother buying anything from our store." As if to say, anyone is under obligation to buy from them. They ridiculed their own customers in front of one who was not only browsing but one (myself) who had just sold them a few pieces for a very cheap price. They used to have such a small town feel as they should when you're dealing with having a store in San Pedro but now they seem to be just disrespectful and entitled. Do not talk so I'll mannered about customers who sell to you simply because they didn't purchase anything from your store. It was bad judgment to talk so rudely about customers to one that was shopping there. read more

One can spend hours in this store, finding one of a kind items that you don't need but won't be able to live without once you've discovered them (or they've discovered you). Stuff isn't super cheap, but it's not overpriced either. And the stock constantly changes, as they are always adding new finds. The store is run by a collective of artists with diverse but all interesting tastes. In short, House offers an impeccably and imaginatively curated selection of household goods, jewelry, furniture, clothes, toys, bric a bric, thingamijigs and whatnots.
