It has been some time since Jiri and Co. did a home inspection at our residence. So, what sparked this review? a). Jiri was the inspector. He was recommended by our realtor (we will never trust that again). Arrived and "I know it all" attitude was impossible to miss. b). Inspected our home but never really gave an honest review. It all seemed like his only goal was to ensure the sale for our realtor. He refused to go into our crawl space because of "moisture" that later revealed 35K water damage left by the previous owner. Bad luck, we think not! When we encountered a major sewer issue at the same area he refused to inspect his "insurance" did not cover it. He automatically became impossible to deal with. Another major expense. This was all within the "90 day warrantee". Its all total BS. The roof that he "cleared" had to be replace only a few years later. Again, the warrantee they promised did not cover this even if it clearly stated that it would. Read "water leak damage". Con job if I have ever seen one. I know he is going to reply. I cant wait. Very professional inspection company! We used them by recommendation of our realtor for a Condo Inspection, and the inspector was very nice, thorough, and timely. We met him at the condo, he went through all of the systems, and sent us the report later than evening. He was very personable, and pointed out a a recommended further inspection (for the HVAC unit, which was working perfectly fine when we got there, but ended up needed replaced!). And also pointed out/found a few cosmetic, smaller details that would help with efficiency. Very knowledgeable, and would definitely use them again! read more

I found this company last minute through Yelp. They had good reviews, and when I called, they fit me right in. Their price was very reasonable, and I started to wonder if I made the right choice. Boy, did I ever. From the get go, they had SUPERB communication. They emailed, texted, etc, and made the pre-inspection logistics incredibly easy. Then, time for the inspection. Jiri showed up very promptly and was extremely professional. He was careful to make sure I understood everything he showed me and was also very conscientious to keep things clean and tidy (he put on shoe covers immediately!) And, he seemed to know everything about EVERYTHING. Extremely knowledgeable. After the inspection, he promptly sent me the report which was thorough and very good quality. I dont rave very often about great service, because I am kind of hard to please. But, I recommend Jiri and House Inspection Associates without a shred of doubt. read more

House Inspection Associates was recommended to me by two separate friends and the reviews looked good, so I started filling out the form online. I was a little surprised when they called me shortly after I started filling out the online form but the person on the phone was friendly and helped me understand the inspection options and finished taking the information over the phone. They were able to schedule me with little more than a day's notice which was critical given a 5-day inspection contingency period that included a weekend. Jiri was already hard at work examining the exterior by the time my wife and I arrived at the appointment time. He then worked hard for about 3 hours straight, taking pictures and narrating as he went along, answering our additional questions too. The report was very thorough with lots of pictures to go along with the comments. We went with almost all the add-ons (radon, air quality, termite, sewer) and each was thorough, so you can feel good picking whatever gives you peace of mind. I can't say it was a great day overall because there were dozens of things that were done wrong or could be improved and the seller isn't going to address all the items; but I'd rather know than not know and Jiri was the right guy for the job. read more

I was a first time homebuyer when House Inspection Associates assisted me in my condo inspection in January 2019, so one could say that any inspection company could've probably fulfilled my basic inspection needs. I wouldn't have known any better! My realtor recommended HIA, and I trusted her a ton, so I went with HIA. David was my inspector, and so professional and great. He took his time, was incredibly friendly and patient in answering all of my questions, and gave me great tips along the way for maintenance and how I could/should keep my home in good condition for the long-haul. I really enjoyed the experience in walking through the inspection with him because I learned so much! David caught so many things that I think would have been easily missed (e.g., the dishwasher hanging slightly off, chips and holes inside the cabinetry). He was also honest about the things he couldn't inspect reliably (e.g., AC because it was literally zero degrees outside) and let me know what I could do when the weather was warm enough to inspect. Importantly, David's expertise with bathroom renovations/constructions revealed that there was a structural default in my shower tiling. He went above and beyond by answering questions even after my inspection that helped me and my realtor negotiate successfully with the seller/developer (who was initially reluctant to fulfill my request to fix the tiling). I'm sure it saved me MANY hours and dollars, as well as (importantly) much heartache. David even went up on the roof to make sure that it was truly in good condition (I was buying in a new and small four-unit condo building, so roof issues are still my issue! I later learned that no other unit owner in my building thought to do this, so the info really helped!). The report was provided quickly and very thorough. In fact, in the last unit that was sold in my building, I noticed that the developer was using my HIA report to ensure that the work on the final unit was thorough and complete. :) After living in my new home for a few months and hearing from the other first-time buyers, I am more and more convinced that I had a truly extraordinary home inspection experience with David and HIA. When I share (with my neighbors, other homebuyer friends, etc) that my home inspection experience was amazing, everyone looks at me kinda funny. But my experience with HIA has shown me that an excellent inspector can help you save money and time, allow you to negotiate successfully before your closing, avoid major troubles after you close (I'm the only unit in our four-unit building who hasn't had a major issue after move-in), and upkeep your home so that it maintains value. I'm incredibly grateful for David and HIA, and would recommend them without reservation to any homebuyer in the DMV. read more

Attention to detail For these reasons, I highly recommend working with Jiri at House Inspection Associates. We relied on him for inspection services on two different occasions; a pre-drywall and final walkthrough after our new construction home was built in Fairfax. I have used Jiri and his team twice now. Both times were last minute, must have home inspections before putting an offer in on a house. They are incredible! I emailed Saturday night for an early morning Sunday home inspection before having to put an offer in on a house before lunch. Jiri was very responsive and helpful--even after 7 pm on a Saturday! I met David at the house Sunday morning and he had already looked around the outside of the house. He was very knowledgeable, professional, and efficient. I recently had a condo inspection done by Jiri. He came at the recommendation of a friend who had used the company (David was their inspector) for the inspection of a 1920s house and found them to be very detailed and good. I was not sure what to expect because this was my first inspection experience - however I found Jiri to be professional and thorough. He explained everything very well and followed up with a written report the very same day. I found the report to be very useful - well organized and detailed. Oh and it was so easy to schedule the service - they have a great website. My only suggestion would be to list the rates for the services somewhere so folks can have an idea before they schedule. Rates were very reasonable overall. In all I am very happy with the service and have recommended them to a friend who is having her condo inspected next week. read more

The representative, (David) was there on time (was at the house waiting for us) and even serviced our home on a Sunday (office closed) because we were buying from out of state and had no other opportunity to schedule the inspection. David was extremely knowledgeable, professional and courteous while he helped us discover facts, answer questions and provided requested information of our new home well beyond its curb appeal. The Inspection report was very detailed and broken down with sections, photos and laymen explanations (not jargon) that we could understand. This company recently did my home inspection on a house I bought. The inspector was extremely thorough, professional and informative. They use an software that allows for many pictures, meticulous detailed reporting and recommendations. The thoroughness allowed me to get money back from the seller for repairs. We used House Inspection Associates when we were buying our new home almost 2 years ago. Jiri was excellent. He was punctual and explained everything he found to me and my wife. He was very thorough and took his time which is better than some of the inspectors I've heard about. He also pointed out things that weren't a problem but he thought could be down the road. My only disappointment was he couldn't do the roof inspection. Because We were buying a town house his ladder wouldn't reach our roof and there wasn't any access from the interior. He said all those houses have access so someone must have closed it up. Since lifting here I've been in a dozen homes that are nearly identical to mine and none of them have interior access. We ended up paying a roof guy $100 to do a roof inspection. You could argue that we should have gotten a discount since our inspector wasn't able to complete the job due to his lack of planning, but he disagreed. I still feel like the service he offered was good and he was an honest guy who found several things the home owner needed to fix before we bought the house. I've recommended Jiri to my friends so I certainly trust him. It just ended up costing more than I think it should have for the work performed. read more

I had a terrific experience with the team at House Inspection Associates. They were incredibly responsive and extremely thorough while conducting the inspection. David took time to point out various things about the home that a new owner should be aware of and offered suggestions on things that I can do in terms of upkeep and maintenance. I am a local realtor and use House Inspection Associates for the majority of my home inspections. David is always on time and most of the time already inspecting when I arrive to the properties. He does a great job at explaining how the home inspection works to my clients. I really like using him because he makes it an educational process for my clients. He has them follow him around the house as he is inspecting and teaches the clients where important items are such as water shut offs, filter locations, etc. Anytime he finds anything he explains it to the clients, explains the severity of it and shows them pictures to expect on the report. My clients always enjoy when he uses the drone for roof inspections when he does use it. The reports House Inspection Associates provides is also very straightforward. They categorize items into repair/replace, maintenance, safety improvements and things to ask the seller. This is makes it easy for my clients and I to strategize on what to request for seller repairs. Jiri was rushed. He discovered cosmetic issues with the house, but as we were doing the inspection I pointed out issues with the house, like damage to the overhang in the back. I recently started the process of remodeling the downstairs only to find out that our basement has exposed asbestos tiles, which the contractors noticed right away - Jiri made no mention of this during the inspection. This is the second time we used this company and unfortunately they have acted very unprofessional. During a home inspection, they damaged the wall around the electrical panel. Not only did they not tell us about this damage but they told us it was routine and they were not going to fix it or pay to have it fixed. Jiri's (company owner) lack of professionalism in this matter was very disappointing. read more
