After going under contract I hired Ed/Atlas to do a home inspection on a new build in North Arlington. I almost thought.... it's a brand new house, do I really need an inspection!? Wow am I glad I did. Ed arrived early, and spent 5 hours completing a detailed inspection leaving no item unturned. Worth every penny. He took the time to show me things I would never have thought about that a normal homebuyer would miss. He was professional and delivered a detailed 50 page report with pictures and details. To me, I felt like a informed buyer with an inspector on my side. I was having some issues with my roof and getting conflicting reports from the insurance company and roofing contractors. Ed took his time to look at every inch of this home (that he had access to) and took care to explain things and give recommendations. As he would finish explaining sections of the house, he would pause to ask us if we had questions. He was informative and a clear communicator. As someone with zero experience in the home ownership game, I found him to be an expert who genuinely wanted to arm us with the knowledge of what makes a home safe/up-to-code. I also really liked when he explained where he lacked knowledge, i.e., structural issues where he suspected there may be a problem but explained that he didn't have that particular expertise to say for sure, or just didnt have the access to properly analyze. I contacted Atlas Home Inspection to look at a house I had just put an offer on, and it was the best decision I could have made. Ed was completely professional, and thoroughly examined every room in the house as well as the exterior of the house, providing advice and recommendations along the way. He checked every appliance, every system, tested every window and door, checked every electrical outlet, and made sure all the sinks and toilets worked and weren't loose, and even tested the temperature of the hot water to make sure it wasn't scalding. He talked me through every step of his process, describing all the things about the house I should know before I moved in (such as where all the shutoff valves were), and also the severity and commonality of any problem he found. He let me look at everything he found and answered the many questions I had during the process. He identified potential safety concerns that I would never have thought about. I learned more about maintaining a home in the hours I spent with him than I have my entire life. Then in less than 24 hours, he produced a detailed report of all of his findings that included photographs with arrows pointing at what he described in the text. This allowed me to continue my negotiations with full knowledge of what I would be getting into. On top of all that he provided links to local contractors, products, and resources that I could access once I moved in. I can't say enough about how positive my experience with Atlas was. My husband and I found Ed/Atlas from Yelp for a house inspection on a townhouse in Falls Church. Ed arrived earlier than the scheduled time and began inspecting as he walked up to the house. He took his time to look for every detail and explained all the whys and hows we had during the over three-hour inspection. His report is also very explicit and breaks down issues into the following ratings: major concerns, safety hazard, minor concerns, FYI, and OK. Our situation was a little unique in that we had already purchased our home, we completed a full renovation and basically wanted someone to come in and flag areas our builder may have over looked when completing the work. I reached out to Ed last minute and was lucky in that he had a last minute cancellation . Ed arrived and gave me a summary of what it was he would be doing, once Ed started the inspection he was sure to call me over for anything he wanted me to understand/take note of. Ed's inspection was very thorough and he discovered things that your typical home inspector wouldn't discover. Ed had no problem with hopping on the roof, climbing into the attic, and crawling under our front porch and back deck. Ed was professional throughout the length of the inspection. Our builder was working on exterior items and on a few different occasions came over to defend his work, & to state what Ed had found wasn't valid; Ed maintained his composure/professionalism and continued to speak directly to me and continue the inspection. The inspection began at 10:30 and ended around 3:30, the report received was very thorough and prioritized items that we should want remediated. Hired Ed for a one-year warranty inspection. He spent a good amount of time to conduct the walk through, where he provided detailed explanations around why certain things were they way they were. His report also identified each item in detail and provided reasoning for why it required a fix. The builder found his items to be reasonable and helped to fix up most of the items without issue.
