Having fun there, but he didn't just deliver. He performed with a high quality of standards, professionalism, and also helped my realtor and I understand complicated systems in lay person language. Marc came inside first and drilled me with questions about why I wanted an inspection. Only afterward did he say someone else was coming, and the assistant arrived after he was already in my home. When I asked who would be doing the inspection, Marc became defensive and walked off the job. The assistant slammed my door on the way out. Marc was super responsive and scheduled a pre-offer walk-and-talk inspection of a newly renovated semi-detached row house in DC on short notice for a reasonable price. He explained everything in simple terms we understood, and he was thorough. For example he smelled gas and went right to his truck to get a meter that detected higher-than-normal levels of gas coming out of an exhaust pipe. He also pointed out little things inside the house that we wouldn't have noticed ourselves and helped us understand which parts were high quality and where they cut corners. He responded quickly to my request for a quote through Yelp and was very flexible about meeting me early in the morning. Marc arrived on time, and he quickly set in to walking through the house. Marc has a good eye for detail: he checked every electrical line, water lines, gas line, and air duct. He identified a few issues, including a shower pan that wasn't properly sloped. That issue alone would've cost hundreds of dollars and hours to fix. He is also meticulous; for instance, he generated his report as we walked through the house. I asked Marc for a modified inspection and negotiated a reduced cost. Despite COVID, Marc arrived and did not have protective shoe coverings. I was clear with him that I needed cost estimates for the identified repair items. When I got the report, he had not included some of the items that were identified during the inspection, and had not provided any cost estimates. I emailed him and asked for both items to be corrected. Marc did include the additional items, but never included the cost data. Despite multiple emails, the information was not provided. One last note: Marc promised to have the report to me same day. Instead, he cashed my check on the same day, but didn't provide the report until the next business day. TEN STARS!!! The home buying process is very stressful, but Marc from FSI Home Inspections really put me at ease with my purchase. I called around a few companies for different quotes and Marc was the only one that directly talked to me prior about my concerns and scheduling. Other companies either asked me to leave a voice message or led me directly to a call center. More importantly, his inspection fee was also significantly lower than all the others! He was always very responsive, especially when I had to reschedule my appointment and the FSI website also makes it very easy to schedule an appointment and pay during the pandemic. Marc was very professional and practiced social distance guidelines. You can tell he's been doing home inspections for a long time. Along the way, he would explained to me each device he was using to complete the home inspection. One of the devices included using infrared to detect moisture or leaks which was really helpful because I already had evidence of water floor damage. He really took his time to look at every inch of the condo unit and answered all our questions during the process. At the end of the day because of Marc, I was also able to locate things like gas and water shut off valves or even how to change the filter for my new HVAC system. I was shocked that I was able to get the online inspection report by the end of the night! Not only was the report very detailed and easy to read, but it included pictures and videos for each safety concerns or violations. I also liked how he included recommendations for things to look out in the future. For example, I found out that my dishwasher's tubing should've been hung higher in order to prevent back flow. As a result of his inspection, I hope I am now warrant for a home warranty on the HVAC system and other small fixes around the unit before settlement.
