Came here with my husband and dad for lunch, it's not a busy place so it's quiet and you can hear the music they play. The interior design could use some work except the little fireplace nook they have is super cute. They had a Christmas tree that was only half lit and decorated which was weird. We got coffees; two sunrise sandwiches and the potato soup in a bread bowl. Both the sandwiches were very good! Definitely a great spot for them and with any of the bread choices, which there are MANY! I'll absolutely come back for them! The bread bowl is just white bread which was disappointing as I thought they'd have a sourdough option. The bread was super doughy inside as if the soup had been sitting in it for hours or it wasn't baked all the way through and it tasted like it was missing salt maybe. The soup was fine, nothing great but not bad. Similar to what you may buy canned at the grocery store. The coffee didn't come out until we were about ready to leave which I expected as it seemed they had barely 2-3 people working at one time. If they did more bread bowl options, experimented with the soup flavors more (or start making it homemade if they buy it commercially), and redecorated, I'd 100% give this place 5 stars. My sister and her daughter's who live in Palmer introduced me to House of Bread in early October when I moved here from San Francisco and coming from a city where bakeries and pastries are huge. I discovered which I'm a big snob around the perfect Cinnamon roll I've ever had, which is a raspberry cinnamon roll. They also had a pumpkin one which I like but the raspberry is a cuddy above the rest. I think the best part about going in here is I feel like the staff treat us like family. A few people that stand out consistently are::Maddie, Rebecca, hope and juniper Jessica And the owner Don, of course. Thank you guys for always being consummate professionals and creating Joy whenever I come in and bringing a smile to my face in big ways and small. And it's not just about the incredibly yummy decadent flagrant yet down home raspberry cinnamon roll, but also your raspberry swirl bread is to die for as well as your blueberry crumble. It's obvious no one likes working here, or god forbid you come in after 4pm you are met with attitude and animosity as if it's so rude to come in 2 hours before they close. The bread is delicious, perfect for a sandwich or dipping into the soup. I bought a loaf of Sourdough and my husband (we've been together 47, married 45 in December of 2025) and we both really enjoyed the bread. The counter service is fast, menu is right there above your head, and easily accessible. I just wish the service people were a little more vocal and friendly is recommending what the options are, but there sandwich's and bread so I think I can figure it out. I would have say if you are sitting down for a meal at one of the tables, I haven't seen the tables being washed off. Hand wipes, or a table wash cloth area would be helpful, if the service people are not going to wipe a table. I felt like we were not rushed, and that made the decision to stay and visit with friends really nice. Now if you ordered a meal and you're waiting, that might take a little bit of patience, and that just depends are they new staff or staff that's been there a while? And I don't know who's running the business, but coming out behind the counter and just asking the customer waiting for their meal, or loaf of bread would be helpful I think. I would definitely recommend coming here for a nice lunch. The bread is definitely fresh, cost is reasonable, service is questionable, and you might want to bring a wipe for where you plan to sit down at. Came here for lunch. My husband ordered two Cajun BLTs on honey whole wheat bread, and I ordered a vegetarian version of the Sunrise on basil Parmesan bread. Instead of any sort of meat, they put slices of avocado. The eggs were cooked to perfection and the bread choice paired extremely well with all the ingredients in the sandwich. I ordered delivery from here and was pleasantly surprised. I got the spinach salad and although it has minimal ingredients, they were all fresh and the portion was huge! I also got a veggie sandwich for later and that was equally as yummy. I had a lot of special requests, being a plantarian, and they fulfilled them all perfectly. And their bread! Not a single other person was in the store. It still took over ten minutes to get our one sandwich and an iced americano. I had time to read over every poster and thank you letter on their board and still had time to twiddle my thumbs to the beat of Journey. The price was just...Exorbitant. I have driven past house of bread hundreds of times and finally was able to stop in on our way to Anchorage for a work party. We had been in a rush all morning and hadn't had breakfast so we popped in for a quick sandwich to go for our drive in. It was amazing! The sandwiches are pretty basic in the way that they are made, which I actually prefer, but tasted excellent and fresh. We chose the jalapeno bread for our chicken bacon ranch sandwiches and it was so. dang. good. We actually went back another time just to purchase this bread to have at our home. I would say the pricing is fair, and the service was good. House of Bread is a chain bakery/cafe with a handful of location across the U.S. Lucky us - we now have one in Wasilla!!! Hours for the Wasilla store are: Mon-Fri 5:30am - 6:00pm Sat. 7:00am - 5:00pm Sun. 7:00 - 5:00pm Hubs and I stopped in today to check the place out and see if we wanted to have lunch there (as you know there are only so many places in the Valley and I didn't want fast food or Evangelo's). When we entered I was expecting to be greeted with a wafting bread/bakery smell like when you enter Great Harvest. It wasn't like that. Maybe because it was almost 3:00 and they had probably done all their baking earlier in the day. The interior is bright and open. You can see right over the counter into the kitchen. There are high ceilings in the dining room, plenty of room for a group (if you pull a couple of tables together), barstool height chairs & counters line the outer walls and look out large windows and there is a cozy fireplace in the corner. Once you enter you see large picture menu boards featuring their specialty sandwiches. They also offer soups & salads. If you prefer you can choose from about 20 different sandwich toppings and at least 6 different kinds of bread to "make your own" sandwich. I went with the California Fusion Panini on honey whole wheat bread. You can't go wrong with a hot pressed sandwich that has turkey, pesto, provolone, & artichoke hearts! I opted for the 1/2 sandwich, not having any idea how big it would be if I had gotten a whole one. Hubs decided on the Cranky Turkey. Turkey, mayo, lettuce, tomato, cranberries & cream cheese! Looked amazing. He "forgot" to order a 1/2 and ended up with a nice sized sandwich! We also got 1 bag of chips and 2 drinks and it came to about $15. Not too bad. I'm looking forward to another trip there to try a salad or soup. There was a rack of many kinds of bread to choose from as well as a bakery case with too many different kinds of sweets - I may go back and forget the soup and just get a pastry! Sandwiches are great. The California Fusion was very tasty with a nice kick from the jalapeño bread. Kids had the PBJ and BLT (off menu) and judging by their empty baskets they enjoyed it too. They have a brownie which is addictive as is all the other pastries they offer. We also bought a loaf of 'grandmas white' to go which is great for toasting. This place is like bakery meets Panera. Good fresh foods and the bread bowl chili is delicious. I always leave there satisfied. I think a good addition would be a "build your own" option for the sandwiches. It is definitely worth trying out. Better than Subway for sure. read more

We stopped in for lunch at the suggestion of a friend and I am so glad we did! All the amazing sandwiches were served on the freshest bread you can imagine. The sandwiches range from the classics you might expect, like ham and cheese and a club, but they also have amazing specials. My favorite had chicken, mayo, pickled jalapeño, lettuce, cheese, and a squeeze of lime. It was amazing! I definitely recommend trying the fresh jalapeño jack bread! I had purchased a spring auction gift certificate (valued at $20) for the House of Bread in Wasilla from my favorite radio station and was looking forward to a carb fix satisfied by aromatic hot fresh baked bread. My visit to the Wasilla House of Bread turned out to be very disappointing. To the point I see no reason to return. To start, the young lady at the counter was definitely distracted by a table of young men over in the corner. When she asked me for my order I had to repeat it in it's entirety. She was clearly preoccupied. I ordered a turkey, avocado and cheese on grain bread with chips and a drink. I also picked out 2 house baked loaves of bread that looked tasty enough to take home. I left the order counter with the drink, chips and bagged bread. The young lady told me she would bring me the sandwich when she finished making it for me. When I finally found a table that was clean enough to seat myself and to eat my sandwich (a few customers had left their trash on the tables, instead of cleaning up after themselves, and the employee(s) had not serviced the dinning area since their leaving...) My sandwich came hand delivered as promised with a good amount of thin sliced deli turkey, a table spoon scoop of avocado, a lettuce leaf and thin sliced tomato. The bread was sliced so thick I couldn't fit it in my mouth to bite it, so I ended up eating the sandwich piece by piece with the exception of the bread. I didn't eat the bread because it was not cooked in the middle. It was just plain thick moist dough. The bread was crispy crust on the outside but raw dough in the middle. Unfortunately the 2 loaves ($8 each) I purchased to take home I later found out were also raw uncooked & doughy on the inside as well. I ended up tossing them in the garbage. Maybe the raw dough in the middle of the loaves of bread explain why it didn't smell like bread was even being baked there at all? Just glad it didn't co$t me anymore than it did to find out that The Wasilla House of Bread is not a good place to eat or buy their 'baked' bread goods. I recently went to House of Bread to pick up a to go order. It was ready. When I presented my gift certificate to pay for my order. I was told that they had new owners and would not honor my gift certificate from the previous owners. I was un aware that the business changed hands. Mind you still House of Bread. The new owner spoke with me and said no he would not honor it and that it could be a fake as far as he knew. I know customer service do it every day. I did not receive great customer service. I even mentioned that this was really not good customer service. The food is good. Based on the treatment I received, the lack of customer service I will not be eating there again. Came with my family today for lunch. I Had a cup of tomato basil soup and half a Tuscan chicken sandwich on garden herb bread. Both were good. I love the garden herb bread. My husband had the club sandwich on sourdough. He said it was good but the sourdough wasn't "sour doughy". I make my own sourdough so he's probably spoiled. All in all a good place for a quick lunch. I've been meaning to check this spot out ever since I read a review for it in the daily news -- it was kind of a silly review written by a silly reporter who only likes white bread and thinks healthy food isn't worth her time... it was sorta like sending someone who hates Asian food to review an Asian restaurant, if you ask me, but whatever. Even the silly reporter was won over by the great food at House of Bread. I think it's great when restaurants care enough to use good healthy ingredients -- they use whole grains, honey to sweeten their bread instead of high-fructose corn syrup, and they don't add any fatty extras or preservatives. The restaurant is bright, big, clean and welcoming with a fireplace in the corner and sunshine pouring through the windows. I got a veggie delight sandwich on honey wheat, grabbed copies of a couple of the local free papers (Make-a-Scene & The Press) and ate my sammich at the bar along the front windows. It was excellent -- avocado, cream cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. At first I couldn't figure out what the nice zing was in the sandwich then realized it was artichoke hearts. Brilliant & delightful. I'll be adding artichoke hearts to the sandwiches I make at home from now on. The honey wheat bread was so good I bought a loaf to take home. I'm so happy there's a place like this in Wasilla, having suffered through way too many 'valley salads' made of iceberg lettuce, ranch dressing, and if they're feeling a little crazy: sliced mushrooms! I had a gift certificate I had been trying to use for months,but they never had a decent choice of items on hand (forget the online bread schedule..they told me they don't follow it)finally decided today to use for a sandwich...ordered roast beef with provolone,mayo and lettuce on honey whole wheat..a blind monkey could have gotten it right, but they did not. They told me the meat is "shaved", but it was sliced quite thick, they forgot the cheese, and the bread was old and dry..we ended up throwing the bread away and adding our own cheese. The Turkey Curry sandwich is my favorite. The last 3 times I have been to House of Bread, they have not been able to fulfill my order! The last 2 times, they sold me the sandwich and then came out to my table with the bad news that they did not have any more available. Every time an order for coffee was made, we had to go up to the counter and remind them that we were waiting for it. Otherwise, the person waiting for it would be without a drink well after their food was delivered. Other than those issues, I have had great experiences at House of Bread! This place is probably the best little cafe/bakery in town! You have to try their excellent bread, scones, and brownies. They are the best and did I mention their sandwiches are soooooo yummy. But the great customer service is probably what sticks out the most. You don't really get people welcoming you once you walk through the door here in the valley. But at house of bread you get greeted by lovely ladies who take the time to give me information I need about an item. It's awesome! You have to come here trust me it's worth it. :) read more
