My son and I had a class in the valley and were looking for a new interesting place to eat dinner and we jumped at the photos of Nonna's. We sat at the pizza bar (no reservation) and ordered an antipasti, the bolognese and the pizza thing with the meatballs in it. And a peach lemonade. And a custard dessert thing. Everything was exquisite. My husband stole my pizza thing leftovers and scarfed when we got home so now we all want to go back soon. Really great place. Wonderful food. 10/10 read more

Husband and I went here on a date, called ahead to make reservations a day before. We got there just before our reservation time and we had to wait about 15-20 minutes before we could be seated. There were several other couples and a family that got seated before us. After getting seated service was good, but we had to wait awhile before getting our food. He got a pizza and it was good and enjoyed it. I had ordered the Fettuccine and it wasn't the same as when I had it the times before. When asked about how the food was I told the waitress that it wasn't the same as last time. That there wasn't as much cheese on it and way too much pepper on the bowls rim. She was apologetic and got me one to go, they also voided it off of our check. We were super thankful and appreciative. Turns out they and just gotten a new chef that week. I felt bad complaining about the food, but it was nice for them to get me another Fettuccine. read more

Third time here, the service is always great. Fast and very friendly. The bolognese was amazing, simply great! The salad is genuine Caesar not Americanized. My wife had the special, last time it was a huge hit, this time it was lemon ricotta. The dish just didn't connect. The server noticed she didn't eat it and inquired. It truly wasn't bad because of the chef or restaurant, it just didn't connect. They offered to remove it from the bill and replace it with a to-go order of her choice. She got the mushroom dish and loved it. I greatly appreciate the professionalism and understanding that not every dish is going to be a home run with everyone. I don't dine at many Italian restaurants in Alaska simply because I'm beyond picky when it comes to my Italian food. The few places I have tried, and love are always authentic with owners of Italian heritage. Nonna's Osteria is definitely one of the Italian restaurants that I have very much enjoyed in Alaska. It is a small little restaurant located in a standalone building tucked away a few blocks off the Parks Highway. The interior is decorated with mementos from the owner's family, and photos of Italy. It is a comfortable spot like going to dine at a family member's house. The pizza oven is imported from Italy, and sits right in view of the dining area. You can order at the counter, or sit down and receive table service. An osteria in Italy is a very casual restaurant with a simple menu that can rotate daily based on availability. This restaurant embodies the comfortable atmosphere of a typical osteria. Nonna's Osteria is a little over a year old, and I first came here in March to pick up some special St. Joseph's Day pastries that I haven't been able to get since moving up here. These Neapolitan pastries are called zeppole. They are similar to a custard filled doughnut just with a less dense dough, and definitely not as sweet as an America doughnut. I have forgone having this part of my culture since moving up here, and was happy to get a small taste of it. The zeppole were pretty good! The dough was a bit denser than the ones I have gotten from bakeries in Chicago, but it was their first time putting them on the menu, and there are variations to the recipe depending on the region of Italy. I was definitely satisfied with them & enjoyed having them to celebrate St. Joseph's Day. While there we also stayed for lunch, and ordered "the cure" sandwich. This sandwich had prosciutto cotto, spicy Calabrian schiacciata, provolone & herbed olive oil on a sesame roll. In Italy sandwiches are very simple, and usually only consists of different meats & cheeses. So the sandwiches at this Osteria are true to their roots. All the ingredients were very fresh which made the sandwich delicious. Just be aware of the fact that these sandwiches are not going to be served like an Italian sub you would normally be used to with veggies & sauces. The sandwiches come with choice of chips or soup. I got the tomato basil soup, which was very flavorful. I also spoke to the owner on my first visit who was a very sweet person. We spoke about our shared heritage, and she proudly told me how they try to import as much of their ingredients from Italy as they can, and also support using local ingredients. As she said the quality of the ingredients is reflected in the food. She also very kindly gave my son a cookie on the house. I came back for another visit this time with my Italian mother in tow so we could try the Neapolitan pizza. We tried the Calabrian pizza & the scarpariello. This is the only true Neapolitan pizza I have had in Alaska. The only critiques I have is that the crust is a bit thicker than it should be, but otherwise the taste & texture are true to the style. The ingredients are fresh, which is what makes the pizza. There is not a ton of sauce or cheese on Neapolitan style pizzas, and they are all meant to be personal sized. My mother & I both enjoyed the pizza, and we were definitely impressed with how authentic it was. If you are more into California or NY style pizza you are perhaps going to find this style of pizza lacking, but I think it is definitely worth a try. It is personally my favorite style of pizza besides tavern style thin crust. We also took some cannolis to go, which again we were impressed with. Excellent shells, and the filling was tasty--I just wish they had pistachios instead of chocolate chips. They have other pastries and cookies available. They are known for their cinnamon rolls, which I have not tried. They also serve a selection of beer & wine. I think Nonna's Osteria is an awesome and unique addition to Wasilla, and south central in general. If you are looking for some Italian comfort food you need to check them out! What an adorable place! Super cute decor inside, sizable menu, super delicious food! My daughter took me out to lunch and she had the veggie soup, and the chicken Parmesan sandwich. I had the Basalmic chicken salad. We shared and all the food was very delicious and fresh. Staff were very friendly, attentive, & helpful. You can always tell when food is made with genuine love and at this place, it's unmistakable. Every bite feels like it was crafted by someone who truly cares about what they're serving. We started our meal with an antipasto of "Castelbelbo and Tomato". The Castelbelbo is a cheese made with a combination of cow, sheep, and goat milk. It was served warm, melting gently into a sauce of Italian tomatoes and butter, along with fresh focaccia and basil. Let me tell you, I keep dreaming of this antipasto dish. The flavor was magical. You know when you hear people talk about how simple good ingredients speak for themselves? Well this unassuming dish transported me to sunny Italy and set the course for the rest of the meal. Next I had the Calabrian pizza and my partner had the sausage pizza. Wow, their pizza crust is wood-fired perfection. Crisp on the outside, chewy inside, with just the right whisper of char to round it out. The Calabrian pizza had a nice kick of heat. I tried my partner's pizza and absolutely loved the fennel flavor in the sausage. We were both happy and content at the end of the meal, and made plans to come back again soon. We left with a little treasure box of sweets: cannoli, tiramisu, and a lemon tart. Each one was a delight, clearly made with the same passion and care as the rest of the meal. Trivia: What is the definition of Osteria? I didn't know so I looked it up. I think the definition matches the ambiance, but maybe not in price. It's sort of hard to tell as Alaska is generally pricey. Food: Menu is relatively small. Pizzas, salads, pasta. I knew I had to try the homemade pasta. And it was 100% worth it. It was flavorful without being overwhelming. It was textured without being plastic-like or soggy. It soaked up the sauce and meat in such a way that by the time the bowl was empty there wasn't leftover sauce or meat in the bowl. It came with a side salad and a piece of bread. All tasty and fresh. Ambiance: the large wood fired oven is pretty spectacular as one enters the restaurant. There are about ten tables in the restaurant and it's a rather small area. The tables are just a little too close for it to be and intimate place, but it is close to the feeling. Wine menu is simple with just a few options. The glass of cabernet I selected was very tasty. Full bodied and smooth. We stopped by the bakery after our meal and grabbed a few desserts to take home and try. Coffee and other beverages were available for take-out as well. read more

We walked in to a welcoming chef...he answered questions and delivered! They make their own sausage...sauce etc. truly remarkable! Our server was fabulous. Friendly, accurate, and welcoming. Gave wonderful menu advice, including letting me know the chicken sandwich was amazing but cooked from scratch so if I needed to be in a rush to go for the Cure sandwich. Wine was a perfect match. They were short staffed and had a surprise inspection while I was there, staff was cool, calm and collected with multiple takeout orders and dinners in house. I initially came here to pick up the lasagna to-go bake at home pre-made dinners. The pre-made dinners are for two people, they are not family sized. It's ok, makes sense but the picture gave me the impression it's a family meal. Oh well, figured while I am here and it's lunch time..so be it. The place itself is cute. It gives such a warm welcoming feeling as soon as you step inside the restaurant, I love that! The set up is very open concept and the huge pizza oven is beautiful! You order your food at the counter and then sit it wherever you want in the dining area. You could also place your food to go and hang out and enjoy the sweet decor, as I did. I ordered the hot option sandwiches: sausage and bell peppers with a side salad, instead of the chips. They have a great selection of salad dressings and the pesto vinaigrette was calling my name. The wait for my food was about 20 minutes, it wasn't too bad considering there was quite a few people in there. The food is really really good! It's authentic, reminds me of the corner deli's that serve THE BEST subs in Chicago. If you know, you know. I devoured it, the sandwich is hearty and plentiful. The salad was good too, I ate that after I inhaled my sandwich. Definitely worth checking out and I will stop by for lunch once again. I wish the girls up front would be a little more chipper and welcoming but the food is amazing..if service matched the food..then my experience would've been flawless. I've said it before and I'll say it again--Wasilla has some amazing food for a smallish Alaska town. And Nonna's Osteria is another jewel in the crown of Wasilla's food scene. The ambiance is charming, clean, and modern, with big pictures of Italian landscapes that'll make you want to hop on a plane ASAP. The service is friendly and warm. And the food. The food!! I'm vegetarian, and I've had three dishes from Nonna's: the fettuccine alfredo with house-made pasta (!!), the wood-fired margherita pizza, and the fried eggplant sandwich.
