When it comes to ice cream places, you basically just need to not mess anything up and your good to go. This place had the biggest line I've seen (nearly to the corner) which wasn't unexpected for a Saturday night but they got through it very quickly and we were in line maybe 10 min. They get things done quickly and are used to the rushes. They have a very extensive menu with soft serves, Hudsonville ice cream, dairy free options, sundaes, shakes and speciality kids treats... so the options are endless. Just make sure you have CASH with you so you can enjoy, no cards. Great stop for a treat and prices and portions seem comparable. Our family of 4 spent $24. Every time I visit relatives in Byron Center, we go to Houseman's. I'm partial to the Coffee Lover flavor, but on this visit, I had their Peach ice cream for the first time. It was creamy with little tiny bits of peach. It was sublime and I am determined to return every day until I depart for San Francisco, where there is no shortage of great ice cream, e.g., Mitchell's, Bi-Rite and Humphrey Slocombe. But I have yet to get peach ice cream any better than this. Houseman's is exactly the neighborhood spot where you stroll up to the window and sit outside with your cone or sundae and taste summer in a range of flavors. Stopped in here after walking 10.5 miles along the Kent trail. A sweet little treat to end the day. I went with a cherry glacier, cherry slush is topped with a scoop of light vanilla soft serve. I was really excited about the slush, but finding out that I could add ice cream to it made my day! There is plenty of seating located behind the shop and a very large parking lot. The drinking fountain in the back is a great addition, and must save them from constantly getting people little cups of water. read more

Great place for ice cream! Portions are larger than normal so a medium shake could pass for a large. There were about a dozen flavors of hand dipped ice cream and even more flavors for soft serve. The salted caramel was amazing. read more

Houseman's Ice Cream is hand's down the best ice cream I have ever had. The coconut almond chip will leave your mouthwatering for more the second you finish your scoop. The flurrys are good but not much is added to the ice cream.You get the add in only in the top of the flurry then the rest is plain ice cream.This has happened on numerous occasions.The staff also are not very friendly at all. We have felt almost everytime like we were interrupting them to order.This happens even when they are not busy at all.It is a Christian owned bus. Thats a plus , maybe he should take a bit more time teaching these girls people skills.It has offended us many times.We used to visit all the time in the summer months , now its just not worth it with the add ins of the flurry being subpar Mcdonalds is equal to Housemans....And closer to home... read more
