Such a GREAT night out!! I love trying new things. My husband and I visited our friends in Houston and decided to come on a Friday night. We easily made reservations online for 5pm. We didn't know what to expect and I was a little nervous to be honest! But we had James and Megan as our instructors to help teach us and they were awesome! They ran through rules and how to throw and then we each were able to try it out. Then the instructors showed us some fancy ways of throwing but for our safety we weren't allowed to try them. But they looked cool! We were able to play TIMBER and First to 50 for our group of four people. I was sad how quickly our hour and a half session came and went. There was even a small bar by the front. I liked that they had lots of craft beer options along with wine. The decor is minimal which is to be expected at a place like this. Their parking lot is small and since we aren't from the area, I'm not sure if there was additional parking elsewhere or not. I know what everyone's getting for Christmas!!

Great spot!! I really loved going there on dates. The staff is really welcoming and the drinks include mead and lots of different beers. You can also play with glow-in-the-dark targets and knives! What's not to love?!

We decided to come here to try out something new. I see it's a trendy thing to do these days, and I like to try out the new trends before they disappear. It is located off Bellaire and 59 and is easy to find. The parking lot is tiny, so I opted to park on the street. We purchased our tickets earlier in the week and also filled out the waiver online. This definitely saves a bunch of time when you get to the venue. The smell of wood hits you when you walk in and I instantly felt a little more manly. There's definitely alot of testosterone floating around in this place! After checking in at the desk, we got to pick clever ax throwing names. If you feel like you got something better, you can create your own name. I went with "Spruce Lee"! Every lane has two boards and they try and maximize the space with two teams. You may be stuck with random strangers, but the team atmosphere makes you make friends quite fast. I volunteered to team up with strangers while the rest of my friends stuck together as a team. I may have made some new BFF's in the process. Each lane is assigned an instructor who teaches you the ins and outs of ax throwing. After a few practice runs throwing one handed and two handed, the games begin. We went with the 1.5 hour session which gave us enough time to play 3 games. We played TIMBER which is alot like HORSE in basketball. We then played the first team to 40 without going over wins. To finish off we played Tic Tac Toe. It gets really competitive which to me makes for a great time. Beverages of the alcoholic and non alcoholic variety are both available for purchase. This is a great place for team building activities, group outings, bachelor parties, or even date night. I would come back!

I know I'm late and sorry for the delay This place hands down was a hidden gem. I've lived here for going on two years and I've driven down the stretch of highway hundreds of times and did not know this was here. Yes I should have yelped search but I didn't. From the start the young lady was amazing. She made sure to go over every step, watch us, and than critique to make better. And it worked. We had the axe and knives. Took me a few tries since I kept using muscle and not technique. Once my body got with the program I started to land more on the wood. The place was clean. It was empty since we got there when they first opened. The dog was so chill and relaxed. Such a good boy. I will make sure to spread the word about this place. Good way to have fun and release some stress.

A friend came to visit and wanted to check it out so off we went to whack away at large wooden boards. Made the appointment online and after arriving about 10 minutes before the scheduled time, we were checked in and taken to our area. The place was pretty full with guests but the cages are far enough apart to not feel crowded. I've been axe throwing before but since my friend hadn't, we got a brief lesson from one of the employees. They even offered some tips and explained the games we could play. If you've never been, it's definitely much harder than it looks and based on your current workout plan, you might feel a little sore the next day. That's not to dissuade you because it's definitely a good time. Can't wait until another friend wants to go!

Awesome time hurling an axe 12' into a wall while you're surrounded by super chill people enjoying the same. Great date option. Really want to go back on shrooms to do the paint splatter canvas fun. Bryan, the manager, gave us a brief safety demo and then offered encouragement and tips on technique from behind the bar. Great bebidos choices. Will definitely be back!! Female owned. We came here during our Store Manager conference for our Team Activity. Our coaches Xavier and Billy was super awesome and informative when teaching us how to properly use the axe/knife during our session! We did a bunch of games and had so much fun! It was our first time going and we all had so much fun! Thank you for being so awesome at what you do! We appreciate you guys! Especially our team coach, Xavier! He lead us to victory!! This is a great group activity and promotes competition with one another if you're the competitive type! Plus, if no one has thrown an axe before, no one has an advantage. You check in, pick a punny axe name, grab a few drinks (beers and non alcoholics), and can hang out in the waiting area til your axepert is ready for you. They have card games and a big Jenga. Our axepert was Axe-xavier and he made our experience extremely fun! I won't get into too many details (you'll have to see for yourself) but the games were very fun and challenged us. You are trained how to throw the axe for the first half hour or so and then you're throwing the remainder of your time. Don't forget to wear close-toed shoes! They also don't permit heels but I saw some ladies wearing heels while throwing axes so *shrugs* to each their own. I would say wear comfortable shoes so you can have better balance in case one of the axes are too heavy. Thank you Axe-xavier and Houston Axe for a great activity while visiting!

Me & my friend, Amanda, were considering Top Golf for a nice evening, well, then we saw online the cost for 2 hours of swinging clubs. Toss in some food & drinks then you're out about $200! Since neither of us are trust fund babies, it was a pass on golf. Thank goodness Amanda said "Let's throw axes!" She was serious. I had no clue such a place was in this area. Voila! We wound up at Houston Axe Throwing on Larkwood. Plenty of lanes (if that's what they're called), friendly staff for safety & coaching techniques to enhance the experience. Everything was top notch. I've been to places where you rent your lane then you're on your own. Nah, this place is a nice clean setup to make sure you have fun. All drinks are in a can or bottle & I wasn't wild about that. Get some drinks on tap, please. The Asst. Manager, Bryan Brezina, handled our training, and coaching. The guy is first rate & I appreciated the Dallas Cowboys cap he wore. Lane rentals are for 1 hour. Btw, they have more happening than just throwing axes, hatchets, and knives. Check out their website at www.houstonaxe.com for more ways to have a helluva good time. I brought my boyfriend here for a date. It was pretty nice. We got the axe and the knife for our session. They give a basic training and suggest to do some of the games they have on a binder, so that was a nice challenge. Super hard for me to aim, but my boyfriend was able to do it after a while. They have beer and refreshments, so it's nice little date spot.

I had never heard of such a thing before this place opened, but after getting a Groupon, my wife and I swung by to check it out. The 2.5 hour session is well worth it. Your trainer (I think our guy was Steve?) walks you through the steps and has everyone rotate through a couple of practice rounds. They are very good about safety measures, including a rule where you don't actually hand off the axes-- you set them down and someone else picks them up. After a couple of practice rounds, we went into mini-games, where they played TIMBER (basically an axe-throwing version of HORSE), and a points match where we tried to get to 30. Following the mini-games was a tournament. I felt that six throws per person per round made the tournament go a bit long (especially for those of us who were eliminated in the first round), but we still finished before our session time had ended. Our instructor showed us some trick shots (underhanded, opposite handed, two-handed), so we played another mini game (Tic Tac Toe), and had some open throwing where we got to practice whatever we wanted. Altogether, it was a great experience and we will definitely be back!

Needed a date night and a stress reliever, this fit the bill perfectly. The intro/lesson was brief but insightful. The axe felt much lighter than I expected and the 1 hand method was the only one I felt comfortable doing. Once you get used to the it all feels safe. There really isn't a way to get hurt without just being ridiculous. The time went really quickly so if you have a group of more than 2 I would suggest more than 1 hour. Overall a great experience, I highly recommend it read more

So I found this place initially on Groupon but I both the tickets directly through them because there was no price difference. The staff was really nice and friendly. We had lots fun throwing the axes and knives. They do serve wine and beer on site. You can bring in food if you like. Our teacher was David he was funny. Me and my group are looking forward to going back for some more fun. read more

This is by far the best place I have found in the Houston Area. Houston Axe Throwing showed us the BEST time. Sheryl was very friendly and attentive. Our host, Austin, will definitely keep you entertained and on your toes the entire time. The Assistant Manager, Brian, came by to check on us to make sure everything was going great! Their options of axes, machetes, knives and spades were awesome!!!!!! We had THE BEST time here. This is definitely the place to visit. We will definitely go back. 10/10 read more

Seems like I've been having good experiences every where I go lately. This place is pretty sweet. Who wouldn't want to try axe throwing right?! Erich was the gentlemen that helped us with our axe throwing adventure. It is not easy!! Erich gave some good tips and techniques!!! He was funny and personable. So much fun. What a fun hour! Booked online for the following day and booking was easy and price was reasonable. Not sure why they ask you to be there 15 mins in advance as it wasn't really necessary. Staff was friendly and quickly gave us a introduction on safety and such before we began. It was an hour of great time, and I would definitely recommend to give the place a shot. read more

This weekend was my first time coming to Houston Axe Throwing, (or throwing an axe at all) and I must say that I will certainly be back. Our coach was Austin, and he definitely made me feel more at ease, having never thrown an axe before. After the 10-minute safety lesson, we were able to both throw axes (scored like darts), but they also had a book of several diff. games/variations to score the game differently. It was very fun and safe the way the lanes are set up. I will certainly be back and am even interested in checking out the upcoming league. If you're trying to find a new hobby, looking for a cool spot to take a date, or just looking for a chance to blow off some steam, you can't go wrong with Houston Axe Throwing. read more

Date night at Houston Axe Throwing was awesome! We had a reservation and they did a great job of getting us started on time. I thought the name badges at the check in counter were hilarious and we enjoyed the large Connect 4 game during our wait. I wasn't sure what to expect and was a little optimistic about being teamed up with people that we didn't know, but it was a great experience and I'm glad that we were teamed up with others. I was surprisingly great at Axe Throwing and threw the game winning axe twice for my team, putting those guys to shame! read more

My boss wanted to go axe throwing for a corporate team building event - so we booked 2 lanes for 2 hours at Houston Axe Throwing! There was ample parking spots out front and to the side and the place was easy to find. You come in and they check you in, make sure to fill out your waiver forms online prior to your scheduled event time to speed up the process! They then provide you with an axe throwing name - say hello to the new Katniss Evergreen on Team Back that Axe Up!! Safety is important so they make sure to brief you on the safety rules and then they teach you the two handed and one handed throws! You get split into teams and play against each other after several practice throws! One game was for points and the second was to reach an exact number - no going over! It was fun and the staff was friendly - I felt safe knowing that nobody could throw while you're in the ring receiving the axe (or more like hatchets). There is definitely a technique here and you'll be surprised how hard it is to get the axe to stick! They changed the boards out often and the facility is clean. They even sell beer and mead! Overall, we had fun and would definitely pay this place another visit! read more

If you haven't done this, you need to! This is a blast. We came with a large group to celebrate a birthday. The guides were very fun and cool and really made our experience both safe and fun. When you come in, they give you fun name tags and you usually split up into teams within your group. They have multiple games that you and your teammates can play and compete with each other. They adult beverage for sale (beer and wine) and it's reasonably priced. If you do come, I recommend you come with a group of your closest friends and opt for the longest hour session that is available. While it is very fun, if you are not coordinated (like me), it will take you a while to get the hang of it. And by then, your timed session is up! read more

OH MY GOSH! STEPHEN was so amazing! We came in and he was our instructor. He was such a great teacher and really helped us with our form and was super patient. The games were amazing. The whole atmosphere was great and me and my boyfriend had no idea of how much there was to learn about ace throwing. Towards the end we all took pictures and BELLA was AWESOME! She helped take pictures and was super informative about axe league. All in all such a GREAT EXPERIENCED! I cannot wait to come back and really appreciate all the hard work and dedication that is put into this axe throwing venue! Thanks! read more

Came here today for a friend's birthday. I was hesitant at first about coming but we had a great axe trainer, Melissa. The check-in process is quick and easy. They serve alcohol and other beverages but you can bring in your own food. Inside there is a section for board games while you wait and picnic tables indoors for parties. My friends and I had a great time learning how to throw and trying out the different tricks the trainer taught us. I am grateful Melissa was very patient with us and gave us great axe throwing tips! read more

We had so much fun! Came for a coworker outing with some friends for the 2.5 hour event. It was $35 a head but well worth the money. Greg was an awesome axepert! He helped us organize some games, a tournament and also taught us all of his tips and tricks. I highly recommend trying this out. It's a great way to spend some time with friends, coworkers or family. read more

I had the opportunity to try out Houston Axe throwing for a blogger event and it was a BLAST! First of all, I was surprised they had a bar on the premises. Who would have thought? lol. They had a nice range of beer, wine, ciders all nice and cold. It's a really nice touch. Our teacher/advisor/axe extraordinaire James was the best. He was very thorough and professional but still super fun and nice. He also had an assistant Axe-avier who was really nice. They offered us a portable speaker to get out party going and the whole session was organized and ran smoothly. We did a little practice session and then we were placed into teams to play games which gave it a competitive touch. It's such a thrill to throw the axe and even more fun when you hit your target! I'm so excited to go back and bring friends because I had such a great time. Tip: This is a cashless facility so don't forget that plastic! lol. read more

I seem to be the only person who had a very mediocre experience here. Let me explain: - I registered and filled out the waiver several days in advance online, showed up 15 minutes early as instructed, checked in, got wristbands, but they forget about me and my husband! Someone did come eventually to ask our appointment time, and showed us to where we were supposed to be. Turns out, they gave us the wrong wristbands at check in. - They state online that each axe throwing group will be a max of 12 people, but ours was 13. This turned out to be a problem because everyone in the group got more turns to throw the axe than lucky #13, which was me. I pointed this out to the instructor and he didn't believe me! He begrudgingly let me have one additional throw, but since the others got multiple throws in each turn, I was still short. - It's a lot of standing around for maybe 5 minutes of actual axe throwing time. - If you are going with a large group of friends, I think this is a fun outing. The group we were added to was home to the world's most annoying human - he was rude to the instructor, loud and probably drunk. Not the business' fault, but be aware you are added to whatever group is there to make the numbers work. So, as you can see, it's no axe-ident why I'm rating them 2 stars. read more

We inquired about one of the team building adventures for an administrative team outing and had a BLAST. Sarah and Brian were there every step of the way with coordination and answered my many questions. Upon arrival, check-in was easy but the best part was our incredible coaches: Billy and Ashley!!! They were so much fun and kept us informed throughout our adventure. Their positive energy was infectious and they certainly made our first time axe throwing that much more fun. 11/10 recommend!! read more

We had a blast Axe throwing. It was myself and my life group from Lakewood Church. We do outings monthly and July was axe throwing. The location was perfect and easy to find. The staff was friendly and accommodating especially Bryan our instructor. It was most of our first time throwing. Bryan as well as a young lady whose name I can't remember were very patient with us as we learned. They stayed with us until we were ready to be on our own. I will definitely be returning and telling everyone I know about the great experience we had at Houston Axe Throwing Bellaire. read more

I had the most amazing time!! There was a group outing for Sofi members, and Melissa was our host. She was great at giving instructions and we had 3 rounds of tournaments, with 2 teams of 8. We were able to complete all rounds in about 2 1/2 hours. I've never thrown an axe before, and it felt great when I was able to stick a bullseye! Very therapeutic. I think this was great practice for my future Walking Dead career. I can't wait to come back with some friends and spend more time here. Axceptional service and loads of fun. Definitely a great group outing or just to relieve some stress! read more

Established in 2017.

Houston Axe Throwing is Houston's first indoor axe throwing range and the first axe throwing club in Texas. Not only is it great for a night out with friends, bachelor/ette parties, and team building it can be a form of stress relief. There is nothing quite like learning a new skill, mastering it and releasing your inner lumberjack/jill. The moment you stick your first bullseye, we know that you'll be hooked. We sure were!

I recommend arriving 15 minutes earlier than your slot to allow time for the group to sign in and watch the safety video. Our "paid" time started after we received the intro-spiel, which took about 30 minutes from start to finish. We were capped to 6 people per lane. 2 lanes for our group of 9 was perfect for an hour. By the end, we had gotten a good hangout in and were ready to proceed to dinner. I could definitely see myself coming back to get in some target practice again in the future! Slinging Axes also had a video game wall set up and a darts area. Cool place that has a lot of room to grow.

Our party was also moved from our original table to much smaller tables that did not provide enough space for our group. They also attempted to charge us an additional $200 for a game that I was clearly told was included in the mixed birthday package -- something I confirmed with them at least three times prior to the event. In addition, the facility itself needs serious attention. It was not clean, masks were falling off the kids' faces, the venue appeared dirty, and the bathrooms were out of toilet paper. Overall, the space does not seem well maintained and requires much-needed upkeep. It felt like the venue was overbooked and unable to deliver on what was promised, with many inconsistencies throughout the event. Because of this experience, we will not be returning.

Gave it 4 stars because we had fun and Kunal was a great instructor. He was chill and super helpful. We won't give it a 5 because the owner was there and she wasn't the warmest cookie in the oven if you know what I mean. She made it uncomfortable at first by coming over and reprimanding our instructor in front of us. She never introduced herself either. We were the only customers in the place. I finally just said, 'look we are just here to have fun.' She eventually walked away and we all felt more at ease. They were doing some construction while we were there too. That made it seem like they weren't ready to have people there. The loud noise was a little disruptive but we rolled with the punches. The place has potential. The owner could warm up the vibe by having better people and Customer skills. read more

I attended on opening day, June 13th, 2017. The fee was waived. I was a newbie. I enjoyed it, and I plan to return. This sport is suitable for any adult capable of safely throwing a 1.5 pound object. Employees teach you how to throw hatchets at large wooden targets (grip, stance, distance, etc.). It's similar to darts, but I found two aspects noticeably more satisfying: the thud on impact and embedding the axe in the target. Throwing facilities were spartan but well constructed. There was ample seating on couches to the side. I recommend moving the couches for players' and spectators' use. read more

I came to Houston Axe Throwing with my company as our holiday lunch/team building day and I had soooo much fun, even though I'm not athletic or sporty! It's like any throwing game, but cooler because it's an axe! Ha! Greg was an amazing Axepert and kept us engaged the entire time and gave us tips to do better!
