firstly, it took forever for them to even acknowledge us because we were waiting for so long. There was no one at the receptionist. No one was checking us in. We were just standing there looking like idiots. Finally someone came in and I asked them that I wanted a haircut and a blow dry so the total I saw on the website was $25. They were about to charge me $37. I showed them the price on the website and then they showed me attitude and then they said OK and then I paid. After I was told to sit down, no one spoke English. It took forever for a hairdresser to come to me. And then they said they wanted to wash my hair when I already said that I only want a blow dry and a haircut and I already told them that I washed my hair. then as they were cutting my hair, there were random people just coming in just looking at hair cutting spraying. There were too many people just playing with my hair. At one point, a random student just started playing with my hair and started spraying water, even though that hair was already blow dried. At the beginning of the cut, one of the employees asked me to show a picture and I showed the picture and she started misbehaving with me and saying "that's not $25 that's $45" and then I showed the website which showed $25. and then finally the teacher came in and just told her to calm down and go away, but she was so rude to me for no reason. Anyway, that was my experience and it just took over three hours to do just to cut and a blow dry and which was ridiculous. The cut was fine. this school is terrible! not professional at all. the teachers dont teach the students anything. all they do is clack their heels and tell the students to "look busy". Ms jackson is the only teacher that cares for her students and actually tries. all the spanish teachers do is observe and report to ms alonzo, nobody teaches anything. they have great stylists at the school but they treat the english speaking stylists like complete shit wouldnt recommend. 0 stars across the board read more

Not enough teachers available for programs. The school esthetician tuition itself is an estimate of around 10,125.00. The process i was given when signing up is they require a $287 deposit up front paid to the school, $85 for a required mannequin head they said i would use on my first day which they provided which i didnt use, $15 for photo ID i never received, $25 for TDR, plus a $400/ monthly payment. Now come Monday, my first day of school, I was advised to arrive early in uniform with my $85 for the mannequin head that I would be using that day. I was then introduced to the current teacher for that day Ms. Zamora. As this is my first day of class, they have had Spanish students translate things the teachers were not able to fluently speak. Although that wasn't a huge problem the first day, it then became an everyday problem. I was given my books that Monday, my first day of class and they were already in the middle of a chapter which was Makeup Chapter 12. I was under the impression I came in, all the "new" class students start with each other on chapter 1 like any other school, instead they have you pick up where they left off which was chapter 12 for me. Not professional at all! We went through 3-4 pages of the basic makeup for the first part of theory. When it came time for practicals, they brought in Ms. Sol, who does not speak fluent English at all, instead had another student translate everything she said. During practicals we are supposed to be doing what we learned in class that day hands on. Instead, we sat and watched youtube videos on make-up instead of Ms Sol showing us physically as it states in the program. Some students were in and out of the class working on other things because some of the students are in phase 2 and 3 opposed to me just starting. I started in phase 1. So everything was unorganized, they had me watching youtube on make-up, some girls doing makeup on themselves, some doing waxing on others, all in the same room as well as some walking in and out of the theory room vs the actual service room. I have never been so lost on my first day of school and I am an adult. So on my first day I did nothing but highlight 3-4 pages in a book and watch youtube videos. My 3rd day of class I came in a bit disappointed and had been questioning everyone when the new teacher arrived. 20 minutes into class we still had NO theory teacher, but Ms. Sol came in to advise us to just work on what we wanted until practical's started as we didn't have a teacher at the moment. At this point 45 min into class, she then pulled me and another student out of class to go do my Orientation in another room. Why am I having my Orientation 3 days after starting school? I am not sure why. So, Ms. Sol had the other student pretty much skim over everything I needed to know and what to expect moving forward. Now as I was going through the details, I was advised that although the program lists a lot of things, I will NOT be learning half of it. The ENTIRE first week i had NO TEACHER! Come my 4th day of class that Thursday I had made up my mind if there was no teacher or explanation on what was really going on I was going to drop the school. I get to class Thursday of course I have no teacher, and it is the same routine. Students come in and we either read the book or watch YouTube. Or the students may go directly into practical's. After I realized what was going on I made it a priority that Friday to get off work early and head to the school to resign. This has been a horrible experience. Instead, they are only concerned about the funds being paid. Not once did the director Mrs. Jaimes apologize, try to offer a discount for the inconvenience of the first week or anything. I was only offered to come back the following week to see "if" they will have a teacher available and if not, I could still drop. At this point, I have lost money enrolling in school here, ordering uniforms and scrubs along with shoes for the dress code, driving across town 35min every day in traffic, on top of them not advising there was no teacher for the night classes. I offered to return ALL supplies given to me as they have not been used or opened to this day, she looked me in my eyes and told me they were not able to accept it, as I am sure it was because they wanted to keep the money like they have done previously per the yelp reviews. I understand if the school was organized, detailed oriented, on one accord, and had a set schedule for the days for when certain chapters are worked for certain phases as students come in, and have available teachers instead EVERYTHING was disorganized, dysfunctional, and very unprofessional with NO TEACHERS! read more

Im writing this review on Yelp since it was deleted from Google reviews. Im writing this review in behalf of my daughter that just finished the esthetician program recently. When she first had interest in the program they mentioned they were going to learn more things that they never did. Everyone in the class starts in different times and have different end and start days so it's like everyone's going in a different pace. Which makes it stressful and unprofessional for someone to properly learn and be successful after they finish the school. Although her completion of course she still has to take additional classes elsewhere because she feels what she's learned is very basic. She expressed herself that she learned more from the students than she ever did from the teacher. She said most of the time she simply could not understand anything the teacher said so she felt she had to study twice as hard. She joined the program for the very reasons it has such great reviews. Also it is very odd and uncomfortable for you guys to make students write reviews right before they receive their certificate of completion. It should not feel forced only if they naturally like they should, I can go in much more detail but simply please save your money and look elsewhere. read more

All the reviews you see for this school are faked. Ms Alonzo has been paying students to create fake surveys to make the school look better than whats it really is. First of all, all the teachers here hate each other. They all act fake behind each other back talking smack about one another to students.... Teachers here are BULLYING students, just because they feel like they have more of an authority than us, ive seen teachers avoid teaching/helping students over certain quotes they've said or over the student proving the teacher wrong. Some Teachers are very selfish, rude, & have horrible Ego. Ive listen to teachers talk smack about students behind their back, over the way they look, dress & talk. Teachers are obsessed with being right, they're obsessed with handling things like kids cant even act like adults. Teachers have special privilege towards certain students, they allow them to clock in late, allow them to leave school without clocking out. We recently had a little gathering for the school to bring food & we all eat, a class made over 100 sandwiches but yet they where the last ones to get called to get food & there was nothing left for them to even eat they had to leave school to go get lunch after all the work they put in to get treated like that. They're making us use HAND SOAP to practice on students HAIR..... Quality of the products here are disgusting & trash. Its like they honestly go to the dollar store for our materials. Nun of our equipment is updated, Honestly the only good thing about this school is the janitors, they do a lovely job at keeping the school clean & looking good. If you're trying to sign your daughter or son up for Esthetician or any educational class I do not recommend this school!! This school is very unprofessional and unorganized. First they let students touch clients when they're not licensed or don't feel comfortable on performing a service. Also, students need to have a certain amount of hours to perform these tasks when the teachers just let them do it anyways. The sad part is that the customers pay to get their service done and when I say they overcharge those clients it's ridiculous!!! Houston Training School just wants you for your money! Every event they have they want you to put down money. Which is absolutely ridiculous because every student has paid an arm and a leg to get into the school itself. The school should be providing money for those types of events, not the students. They accuse students of wrong things, they only enforce the rules amongst certain students. When the head director comes to school, somehow all of the sudden the school is perfect.. when it's not! The director of the school doesn't even know how bad the Houston training School on Gessner Rd is. It's like the school creates new rules and they do not provide you will ALL of the information they should about the school YOU'RE fixing to attend. READ this first, don't know why they got 5 star reviews, if you don't want to read long reviews, just go elsewhere, if want to know why, READ this. Went here only because it was one of few beauty schools taking appts. Their website incorrect, prices are higher, no senior discount, told them to correct, still haven't, facials, $20 NOT $10. Very disorganized, got there at 10:15 and although open, not even registering or getting people ready for services starting at 10:30, nail technician didn't start me until 10:55pm, services done by nail teacher who kept stopping and explaining so didn't finish until about 12:10, most schools I go to have a variety of colors (guess students bring their own polishes??) they only offered the four colors from probably their student kit. I had a haircut scheduled afterwards but then they said that students had gone to lunch, waited a bit and was going to scold them about this as they KNEW I paid for two services but they told me that someone was preparing for the haircut-then another teacher came by and saw I was barefoot and got another teacher to bring me pedicure slippers (should have done it right as even though teacher, still gave her tip.) Finally got the haircutter, even though I only wanted a cut not shampoo, she told me I had to get the shampoo, didn't want to argue as already running late, but if they asked me to pay more later, was going to say that that was THEIR idea, after shampooing, the haircutter started watching the teacher doing a cut to someone in the next chair and when she saw me looking at her, said she didn't know how to cut hair and needed to ask the teacher! Well the teacher kept cutting the guy's hair and I was about to get up to tell her to find someone else but then she brought back the teacher who couldn't speak English who basically did the whole cut (I think she was aware I had been waiting, a long, long time.) My experience with students is that they do the whole service and then after they are finished the teacher checks it, so although takes a long time, not twice as long, usually they are senior students ready to graduate, this could be the reason other schools opening were not offering services, there was one (sounded like he was Vietnamese) who said they were doing cuts and not nails and Paul Mitchell was also doing cuts only, go there for the cuts (otherwise come here and you may get a quick cut from the teacher and free shampoo and only pay $5) but just pay $8 more and pay $20 for a pedicure in one of those Vietnamese salons, unless you don't mind spending an hour and half for one (she was speaking Spanish, so I THINK she was instructing them, and I WANTED to say could you please stop, stopping, but didn't have the nerve) however if they are using you as the teacher's model to instruct the students (which takes much, much longer) and NOT having the students work on you, you SHOULD be getting it for free (that's the way Vidal Sassoon did it.) read more
