I had a very disappointing experience at Houstonian Dental. Beyond concerns about treatment recommendations and pricing, my biggest issue was a serious breach of patient confidentiality. Private details regarding my exam, diagnosis, and treatment plan were discussed with someone who was not authorized to receive my health information. Patient privacy and trust should always be a top priority at any healthcare office. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here. Due to the seriousness of the matter, a formal complaint has been filed with Texas Health and Human Services. The worst dentistry I have ever been to. Very unprofessional and rude, mentally and emotionally abusive staff, and they overcharge by doing unnecessary overpriced procedures instead of basic things you need done. The office is also uncomfortable and not designed with patient care in mind. The way they have everything open like that is a hipaa violation too. Long time coming on this review.. Run don't walk from this place. Sold me on new veneers (Shame on me if it's not broken don't fix it) they outsourced every part of the process and left me in temporary veneers for over 3 weeks (ouch) . Final product was not worth it they are less white than the actual teeth. Everyone has their own experience but keep an eye on Garcon and crew. They run their 'practice' more like a business than a dentistry, I get it because we're all here to make money but damn at least lower the expectations so they can be met at the end of the day. Very nice and clean inside, front desk was very nice, helpful and reassuring. However, the person who took me to the room and did my x-rays (I'm not sure if she's a hygienist or maybe she has a different title) seemed almost as if she was bothered by me. I have anxiety about going to the dentist and I made sure to let them know that ahead of time. The dentist did not introduce herself or talk to me at all other than saying I needed to schedule another appointment. I would like to share the facts of my experience to help others in the area as they try to find a doctor. I had an appointment with Dr. Ganguly last week. I have never had a cavity in my life. I was given an active treatment plan for 20 cavities. Pre insurance this was over $4,000 of work. I checked in with my home dentist (I am a student in Houston) who thought the diagnosis was extreme, although was obviously unable to give a final word over the phone. I went to a different dentist in the area for a second opinion who commented that it seemed Dr. Ganguly was targeting stains that when probed did not give an indication to be a cavity. He gave me a treatment plan that included 2 small fillings. My experience with Dr. Ganguly was very frustrating. I don't know about you, but I sure don't have time to be running around town getting second opinions. This approach was far too aggressive for my taste. I don't know Dr. Ganguly personally, and I would never want to assume that someone is after my money, especially since she knew I was a student, but given the experience I had, I certainly have to wonder. I would not recommend this clinic. read more

I have been going to Dr. Helen Jafari for about a year. I rarely have any problem with my teeth. However, since Jan. I have had to have a root canal and a new crown put in. Dr. Jafari has been great. Very professional and knowledgeable. She is very personable as well. I have alot of fear about going to dentists, even though I do it each year. Old baggage from my teenage years. Dr. Jafari put me at ease and explained everything she was going to do. If one can be pleased with having to have a root canal and crown, then I'm very pleased with her. Houstonian Dental used to be my dentist when I moved to Houston. I thought they were professional and friendly for the 2 years I was with them. Since I moved away from Houston, I realized that I was getting over charged by Houstonian Dental and having unnecessary cleaning when I switched to my new dentist. I informed my new dentist that I was told I had to have 3 dental cleanings a year instead of the standard 2 cleanings a year and I'd receive a topical application of fluoride after my cleanings. My new dentist told me that I didn't have to do that at all. Houstonian Dental is the only dentist that had me do the extra cleanings and topical fluoride. My previous dentists didn't tell me I had to do this and now my current dentist told me that I don't need to as well. With Houstonian Dental, I had to pay out of pocket $76 for the extra 3rd cleaning a year and $25 for the fluoride application a year out of pocket. My insurance only covered the standard 2 cleanings a year and didn't cover the topical fluoride. Really, the out of pocket charges aren't much, but it's the principle behind it that concerns and worries me. After reading a few of the yelp reviews, I'm worried that other procedures I've done with them may not have been needed. I'm not saying to not go to Houstonian Dental, but I'd get a second opinion if you feel like you are being pressured to do additional treatments or don't feel quite right about it. read more

I was referred to this practice by my dentist when she retired. This was a general checkup and cleaning. They did a very thorough cleaning. I don't like it when dentists try to "oversell". I don't think they did that. I left with a recommendation to replace a filling and a series of clear options regarding how much each option would cost. Overall, it was a good visit. read more

I had THE most terrifying experience here for a cleaning. If you want to be scarred for life from the dentist... this is your place! I was told I needed 8 fillings... and when I went to my regular dentist she told me I didn't need any. These guys will rip away at your teeth, make you bleed, and have 0 sensitivity to the pain you may be feeling!!!! I was crying and bleeding and they told me this was normal, until finally I told them to STOP. I will never forget this experience. read more

While living in Sugarland I saw my dentist every 6 months. Almost all of the visits involved routine teeth cleaning or fixing very minor problems. When we moved to Houston, more or less randomly I selected Dr Jafari to be my dentist. I feel a sizable amount of unnecessary work was done. For example Dr Jafari sent me to a specialist for a root canal and the specialist called her back stating that a root canal was not necessary at that time. Moreover, the final bill kept changing after payment was made. An extra $500 was added, then an extra $800. read more

THE BEST!!! I decided to get my cleaning there after seeing good reviews online. I recently moved so they are close to an hour drive but I'm so glad I went because it was totally worth it! Houstonian Dental exceeded all my expectations! There was no wait besides the time I spent filling out paperwork, they even took me in early. Dr. Jafari was so gentle and caring she made me feel so comfortable. She explained everything in detail and I actually learned a lot from her in just that one visit. I had seen Houstonian Dental for over 3 years. The dental hygienists and dentist are very nice and the work they have done, only teeth cleanings in my case, has been great. My biggest issue is that Houstonian Dental tries to pull ever dollar out of you possible (in my experience).. You will get a basic teeth cleaning, they will put flouride on your teeth and then charge you $25 without previously notifying you, even when your insurance covers teeth cleanings. Frustrating, but not the biggest deal. I just started requesting no flouride because I never had any need for it. After 3 years of seeing them (with no issues whatsoever), I was told that I needed to correct an overbite by getting Invisalign (which would cost $5400 overall and me $3900 out of pocket) to improve my dental hygiene. Weary of this, thinking they were only trying to fix something that was more cosmetic, I contacted my previous dentist who had seen me for +15 years to discuss their recommendation with him. My old dentist reaffirmed that there was no dental hygenie issue for me to correct, and that it was only necessary if it was something I wanted fixed cosmetically. That being said, the people at Houstonian Dental are great and couldn't say nice things about them. I just believe that they try to push services onto patients to increase their bottom line rather then giving completely honest advice about what their patients truly need. read more

I came here the other day for a dental check up and cleaning with Dr. Carthel. I instead was seen by Dr. Bassoo. That was already somewhat annoying. I was not told verbally that Dr. Bassoo would be seeing me instead. I was told I needed many things done - sealant, deep cleaning in all quadrants and a crown. I was somewhat confused as I was not experiencing any pain or had any issues with my teeth so I opted out temporarily and scheduled for another day. I felt like I was almost frowned upon for not choosing the plan they had for me. I felt awkward. I asked if we could only do the normal cleaning and she said there was no point in doing that because she would do the deep cleaning. I was confused - so I walked out not getting my regular cleaning that I wanted. Dr. Basoo seemed unconfident and I was not convinced of my treatment plan. So I went to another dentist to get a second opinion. They said my teeth were fine and I had no issues - no crown no sealant. No need for deep cleaning as that was for patients who had major issues with their gums and did not brush their teeth regularly. I don't see why a dentist would tell me my teeth are fine and lie to me about it. So what does that make me believe? It makes me unfortunately believe that the treatment plan they had provided for me may have been unnecessary and just a scam for my money/insurance. The dental hygienist from the other office told me that I don't need a deep cleaning and I could just floss more and the issue would be resolved. All in all maybe the other dentists are better but I will never go back to Dr. Bassoo. She seems too young and needs more experience. read more

I saw Dr Jafari today (Monday). I had requested an appointment on Friday - i appreciated her fitting me in :-). They accept my insurance (big plus), and they are right off of 59 at Greenbriar, so the location is great. And, their office is on the first floor, even better. :-). I had xrays done, teeth cleaning and polish, and was fitted for a night guard - all in an hour - so my plan to have the visit during an extended lunch break worked out! Office is modern and they have the best equipment (from what i could tell). i will be getting some cavities filled when i come back to get my night guard. Dr Jafari is efficient and kind, mindful of not spending too much time on chit chat. Allison, her assistant, did a great job with taking the cast of my bite for the guard - it was not uncomfortable.
