My wife and I both went to Dr Budner last year. I would not recommend this office to anyone. The scheduling and the exam were fine enough, but actually getting my glasses took much longer than promised, and the promised calls to let me know the glasses arrived were never made to me. I only found out by making repeated calls to the office. But then the real nightmare began. Our insurance is on my wife's plan, and she dutifully paid the invoices as they arrived. Since then we have been getting monthly emails that the invoices hadn't been fully paid; on the first notice, my wife had the payment made, but Dr Budner's office returned the check saying nothing was owed. But the invoices kept arriving every month, for the same amount that was returned to us, with increasingly threatening tones. After some research this evening, there were two separate invoices, and the office may have confused them. Out of frustration, I just paid the last notice, not wanting my credit rating affected for a total of $12. As I said, Dr Budner is a fine enough doctor, and the office visit was fine, but the office operation will keep us away. read more

The staff and doctors are very nice and take the time to provide you any information you need. This was my first time getting an eye examination so I was glad they answered all my questions and educated me how the eye works. The walls are very thin so you can hear everything going on in the doctors office including confidential information. Also I recommend creating a space for patience to have privacy while their eyes dilate. I sat next to a little boy who was also getting his first eye examination. He started to cry when the nurse gave him the eye drops and I could tell he was embarrassed that I was there. The waiting room and exam rooms are a little dated and maybe need to be upgraded. read more

Dr. B is the greatest! He is so patient with me as I am a patient that asks 40000000 questions. Trista helped me pick out the cutest pair of glasses that I love (a pair of Raybans) and I plan to order a second pair of as soon as possible. Christina was also awesome because she explained everything about what my insurance would and would not cover in laymans terms because insurance can be confusing. One star because it won't let you post without it. I have never been treated so poorly or charged so much for an eye appointment or glasses Ever !!!. They kept billing my secondary insurance which denied the claim because I have primary. This went on for a year. I told them I would appeal the denial if they would just bill the right insurance first.They kept telling me it was my fault and talking over me.This was after paying $400 out of pocket and having 2 eye insurances and 2 medical insurances. So now that it is to late for the insurance to pay the medical part of the claim they are trying to bill me! I would Never tell a friend or enemy to go to this establishment. Dr. Budner reached out to me today and had a conversion regarding my review. He wanted to get a better understanding of the situation. Honestly a very understandable and reasonable doctor. He took his time to hear what I had to say and gave feedback. Even though he wasn't the doctor that saw me the day I visited but I'll probably go back just because his courtesy. He even stated that he would waive the $55 missed appointment fee. I will most likely follow-up with the visit when work gets less hectic and will update or write a new review again. read more

Re. Howard Budner & Associates: SENIORS BEWARE!!! Three issues: 1. Delivery of product. 2. Correct lenses per vision test. 3. No "right of rescission", i.e., you can't cancel your order, even in less than 24 hours after placement. First, let me get out of the way that my experience with this office left me feeling humiliated and ripped off. Much of the humiliation is on me, for being gullible. 1. Delivery delay: examination done August 16, 2017. Final delivery by mail: 12/19/17. My order clearly stated in their handwriting, highlighted in yellow, that the ordered had to be mailed. 2. Incorrect lenses: three pairs of glasses: sunglasses right lens spot on, but left lens fuzzy. Other two pairs of glasses: no lenses even close to correct! Total blurs!! (I had a Photo Refractive Keratectomy performed years ago, with one eye set for distance, the other for reading, computing, etc. Distance needs help, but I can read comfortably without glasses. These two pair were for close up.) 3. Cancellation refused: This part, in particular, is the "SENIORS BEWARE!!!" part. Wednesday appointment finished around 3:00 PM. Got home and realized I had been oversold: came in for one pair of updated glasses, paid for three plus a $70 bottle of pills (+$700!) Called next morning at 9:30 AM, spoke with Nicole (the competent, polite person), asked to cancel, told no problem, she would tell salesman "Rob" (aptly named), and he would call me to confirm. No call back that day, Rob out. No call back next day, so called myself and did speak with Rob, who said it was up to the office manager (who was out at that time). Saturday, again, no call back so I called at noon, and was told it was too late to cancel, the order was already in process. My point: on Wednesday their office closed 3.5 hours after I left (6:30 PM). My call to cancel was at 9:30 AM the next day, which is FOUR BUSINESS HOURS after examination/order placement. You're better off just going to a place like Visionworks, which offers a 30-day money-back satisfaction guarantee. I would never set foot in this place again, including for a re-examination, due to total distrust, feelings of shame, and the hole in my wallet. Never got an apology, should have gotten a refund, and never told there wouldn't be a fee to correct this situation. From experience, I conclude that this doctor's office is more *focused* on profit than your eye health. I drive a school bus, so perfect vision is paramount. I hope at least one person reading this will heed the warning. P.S. they enclosed a spritzer bottle and cloth, to clean the glasses which I can't use ... Nice touch, way to rub it in! read more

Dr. Howard Budner has been my eye doctor for over two decades. He and his staff have always been very thorough in conducting the exams, using state-of-the-art equipment combined with the personal touch. During my latest visit this week, he and the entire staff were kind and knowledgeable. They are very good about filling claims to my insurance so I never have to worry about paying any more than my co-pay. His support doesn't end when you walk out the door. His office sends out email newsletters regularly that contain important eye related health information. The only thing I'd recommend to those visiting his office or any other Optometrist, price compare your contacts and/or glasses. Often you'll find better prices at a Sam's Club or Costco. Dr. Budner is very understanding and has always been happy to provide prescriptions to take to these outlets (though he does have a great selection of frames). LOVE THIS OFFICE! First time at Dr. Budner's office and I will definitely be a long time patient. The staff was very kind and helpful, they answered all of my questions and seemed to be very knowledgeable about both glasses, contacts, even my insurance. The doctor was very thorough with my eyes and really listened to my concerns. I didn't feel rushed at all like I previously have at My Eye Doctor or other chain offices. They had a great selection of glasses and even gave me a discount on top of my insurance benefit. I can definitely appreciate a private practice for the individualized care they give their patients. I did not have a very positive experience on my recent visit to Dr. Budner. I will say this at the start: i completely believe he is a competent optometrist and feel that he revised my contacts prescription appropriately. He was certainly thorough, and I definitely can see better after my visit. But I have been wearing some sort of vision correction since I was 7 years old, and I have definitely had much better experiences at other optometrists and would not recommend him to a friend. My major complaint was the cost of the appointment. I paid far more than I have ever paid for an eye exam/contact lens fitting--and I have vision insurance! You sign something upfront that says you will be responsible for whatever costs incurred, and it goes into detail about how they don't care about the costs, they just want to give you good eye care. I thought--hm, that's fine I suppose, I want good eye care too. Well now having been through it, I realize they do that because they charge you an arm and a leg for the "contact fitting" (which really is just checking your vision) as separate from the eye exam. I was frustrated with the cost and felt that they could have done more to communicate it upfront. Then at the end of the appointment, they wanted me to buy my new set of contacts through them--oh my gosh, the cost! I can get it for one-third of the cost online from a respectable dealer. So I asked to just have my prescription and left. I also was frustrated by the duration of the appointment. He has his assistant do several of the tasks (ones that I've previously had the optometrist do--the eye pressure checker, etc.). The way they organize the appointment, you end up going assistant, doctor, assistant, doctor, assistant, doctor. And every time you go back to the doctor, you wait again in a little side room. It felt fairly inefficient--I just wondered if they could have batched it better, or if the doctor just could have walked me through it. By the end of the appointment, I had been there for 2.5 hours! It is certainly great to have a thorough appointment, but I spent half the time waiting--not exactly the best use of my work day. They also did not give me sunglasses after having my eyes dilated. A minor complaint, but I was sorely missing those ultra-strength light blockers when I went outside. Finally, during my appointment, he made small talk--asking about my profession, etc. I engaged of course, wanting to be friendly. When he found out what I do for a living, he made a sort of disparaging comment about the profession as a whole. I maybe could have let that slide, but he brought it up AGAIN later in the appointment. It just made me feel very awkward and unwelcome. Again, he did a good job checking my eyes. Poor experience from start to finish! New customer Greeting: curt and impersonal. Eye exam: ok Glasses fitting: three tries and none helped. Frames were lopsided, lenses dirty. Pricing policy: no money back for any reason. You try you buy policy. Make sure you read this big posted sign! Follow -up: Zero, none, zilch. They were going to do a partial refund on my credit card but never did it. They kept saying they would do this "the next day". I kept calling back to expidite this. They finally cut me check but not for the verbally promised amount. Initial delivery of glasses late. Professionalism: Poor. This place is all about getting you what you need. If you are looking for rock bottom pricing and do not care if your contacts aren't quite the right prescription, try to get one of those $99 appointments at Costco. Not in the mood for cattle treatment where my vision is concerned, but on a budget, I checked out Dr. Budner in Fairfax after looking around my own neighborhood to the north. I found that the high-end places in Oakton, Maclean (read:$$$) seem to care more about your image than your vision so I looked around Fairfax and was thrilled to find this place. The staff are competent to a fault (reminded me twice of my upcoming appt.) but I felt were honest about which frames look best on me. I loved the attitude of 'we're going to get the job done right even if it takes three follow-ups." I have been coming here a couple years, have bought glasses and now contacts through them and as a business owner myself, have enormous appreciation for the honesty and integrity on which this business is built. I have read the other reviews and was prompted to write because "Holly S" wrote that a contact fitting is really just an eye exam. Holly has not taken the time to understand the process. Measuring the size, shape, curvature of your eye, how soft it is (sorry, I don't know the technical terms) etc. not to mention the fitting, refitting, testing and rechecking is not s simple process and it is not the same as an 'eye exam.' I feel that it is worth it to have this kind of excellent service available in the area and that's why I'm writing. Yeah, it is expensive to maintain the number and quality of office staff Dr. Budner maintains. He has to pay payroll taxes, worker's compensation, probably health benefits etc. I appreciate this service and am willing to vouch for it. I don't care about the small talk and I'm sure people have to wait sometimes because Dr. Budner puts in the time it takes to do the job right. I was looking around for a Pediatric Optometrist and was having a very hard time finding one, got lucky this one popped up. I gave them a call and was in their office being seen 30 minutes later. They were very professional and took time with a somewhat difficult 4 year old. I did not see a problem with pricing. Glasses are expensive anyways, and I believe that you get what you pay for. I went here a couple of months ago and was truly satisfied with my eye exam. The staff was friendly and the Dr.Howard seemed to be very professional. He definitely knew what he was doing. He was able to give me an explication of why my eyes were very dry and what could happen if I did not take care of the problem. He gave me a sample of a bottle specifically for dry eyes. So far my eyes have been less dr. With the prescription he gave me, I'm able to use the computer without getting a headache or having my eyes feel tired. The only reason I gave this practice 4 stars was because I was not helped when looking for eyeglasses. The person who is in charge of the small section may have heard me wrong. I did state I wasn't sure of what type of frames I was looking for but wanted to look around since i was planning to shop around. He did not offer help to look for frames but maybe he did not hear me when I said I wanted to look around. He charged me for my visit and told me I was free to go. I just had the most comprehensive eye examination in my life! and I am 64! Before Dr Budner does your examination his assistant will ask you the general questions then performs a very detailed examination "which I was thinking was the complete examination", well I was incorrect ! next step was another even more detailed examination by Dr Budner. This man knows his trade and you just get that feeling that he really cares about his patients.
