We are out of towners and searched for a good breakfast. We found Howard Dooley Cafe. It is great. The food was excellent. I had scrambled eggs with bacon grits and an English muffin. My husband had scrambled eggs, sausage, which was homemade by the owners, home fries and a muffin. Brooke was our server. She was very pleasant and super at her job. We were also able to talk with the owner, Tracy, she was very interested in our opinions. We talked more with her and felt very good about the whole experience. We highly recommend this restaurant. read more

I don't mean to be rude, but what you call hash browns are actually home fries/country fried potatoes. Actually surprised there is confusion about this in the South, but here we are. Hash browns are what they serve at Waffle House. Food is pretty decent but very simple and lacks spice and depth of flavor. Pancakes are straight-up bad - very bland. Haven't had anything that wowed me, but a better spot than most in Mathews. read more

I am a south GA girl whose great grandfather owned a BBQ restaurant, so it just simply runs in my blood. I'm here to tell you, that sandwich was one of the best I've had in a long time. The seasoning was on point, not too salty, but nowhere near bland. It was tender and juicy, just good! Another fantastic meal at Howard Dooley . This time I visited for lunch and had the club . The bread was toasted perfectly and the tomatoes and lettuce was fresh . Top quality Mayo was used . Man did we love the fact that we stopped here! Wanted a nice non-fried late lunch and found it here at Howard Dooley. Got the sautéed crab sandwich and The Taylor sandwich. Make sure to choose the Mac salad for a side and save room for those desserts or get them to go like we did!! read more

Had breakfast to go there on a few occasions. All was good. Fresh, hot off the grill and pretty quick. Fried chicken on the other hand was greasy but tasted like the oil that the chicken was fried in was burnt on 2 out of 5 occasions. Haven't had anything else from there. read more

Great place for breakfast. The food was hot and came quickly. My veggie omelet was good and the sausage my husband had with his eggs was excellent. The hash browns were more like home style potatoes, but were very good. Staff was very pleasant. Seemed like everybody in there knew somebody, but we ended up striking up a conversation with another couple, so we almost felt like regulars ourselves. Price was reasonable as well. read more

The food is great with many family recipes on the menu. The breakfast, featuring sausage and Canadian bacon made in-house, is excellent! The "Sailor" sandwich on the lunch menu is made with homemade pastrami and kielbasa and is super! Everybody is talking this spot up for obvious reasons.
