Place where everyone seems to know each other and you're stared at if it's clear you're just visiting/don't belong. It's quite loud and chaotic inside, and you will smell like fried foods after you leave. Its in fact so chaotic they have to give you a buzzer for when your food is ready. I got a $9 green smoothie which was alright (it had grapes?) and a $5 "8oz" side of fruit that was only filled halfway with blueberries and strawberry scraps. read more

After staying at nearby The Tides Inn, we thought we couldn't find good coffee in the area until we were recommended The Local. Stopping in on a Sunday morning, we wish we had found it sooner! They have locally made food and a full coffee menu. My chai latte was delicious and my wife said her decaf americano was the best she's ever had, including any spot in NYC. I was staying at the Tides Inn and came here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. A quick bike ride but we saw lots of people walking to the Local from the Inn. It is a cute little breakfast shop in a very small and quaint part of town. I am so happy we got there right around 9 am because it sure got busy!!!! Plenty of seating outside and some cute little tables inside. Close quarters so there is not a lot of privacy. In fact the people next to us found out her friend was finally pregnant after many years of trying. She was so happy and I was happy for them. That's how close you are. We ordered to breakfast sandwiches and sat down. I loved the metal glasses for water....the water is self serve. The breakfast sandwich was on an everything bagel with bacon and egg and cheese. It was very good. I wanted to take more pics but the place was jamming when we left and it was awkward. I would definitely go back. The local is the most charming little cafe. It reminds me of a place you'd see in a TV show where everyone knows your name. They have cozy little nooks and lots of outdoor seating. It's a perfect place to have a nice lunch and taking in the sweet little beauty of your surroundings. My family and I ordered a few sandwiches. Turkey and cheese for the kids and Roast beef for the adults. My sandwich was pressed with melted cheese- it was delicious!! I also opted to try an iced Dirty Chai which was fantastic. The staff was friendly and really went out of their way to make something delicious for my two picky little eaters. There have been quite a few changes lately, and I'm not liking them. The number of sandwiches has been reduced by half. No more soup of the day. No more 1/2 sandwich and 1/2 soup combo. No more delivery of your order to your table. And none of the familiar faces are there. I was a regular for 10 years. Not as much during COVID, or since Front Porch opened in Kilmarnock, but have still been coming pretty often. But the recent changes are not going to draw me back. read more

Sitting outside to enjoy the morning watching everyone's food come out I assumed mine would too. Go back inside to find my food sitting on the counter waiting for me, cold. Maybe I don't tip enough? Don't know. If it wasn't a small business it would be 2 stars but it's covid and they are trying. Id go for the coffee but perhaps not the food. Staying at The Tides Inn we were looking for a more affordable breakfast option. On a Saturday in August the Local was fairly busy, but no more so than your average Starbucks on a Saturday. We ordered breakfast sandwiches and coffee. The house coffee was good. We tried both the dark and the Brazilian. Both good. My bacon, egg and cheese croissant was quite good. My wife had the egg-white, Turkey sausage, cheddar and avocado croissant which was also quite good. We finished with an orange-cranberry muffin which we both really enjoyed. All of this under $20 with tip ( while the Inn wants over $20 for an omelette). They lost a possible fourth star because our order got lost in the shuffle and took too long to get served. I'm all for supporting small, local businesses, especially in a little town like Irvington. that's why I chose to stop at The Local rather then pressing on to kilmarnock. big mistake. I ordered a sandwich called "The Shipwreck" which cost at least $12 and probably more. what I got was a gelatinous mess so awful I had to pry it open to see what was so off about it. I mean, making a sandwich shouldn't be that tough. for my money I got two pathetically thin sheets of what was supposed to be roast beef, a layer of tasteless cheese, a couple of pickles. the whole mess was then grilled, fusing the thing together. This was by far the worst sandwich I ever tried to eat - memorably so. I pulled it apart, trying to find a part of it I could eat without so much gummy cheese and greasy bread, finally gave up, and left the whole mess on the counter. Whoever is running this place should try less on saving money with scant, lousy ingredients and produce a product appropriate to the cost. I'm sorry to say I'm not going back to The Local and would rather go hungry than have another "Shipwreck." read more

Great Coffee House if you skip the coffee! Everything at the Local seems to be pretty good, as long as you stay away from the caffeined goods.
