When I called a second time to see if there was fish and chips on the menu at the river grill, I was told "the tavern is closed." I wasn't really sure what that had to do with my question? I asked if I could be transferred to someone to talk about the river grill and she replied that it's the same phone line. I asked my question again and was told that it wasn't available. Could have saved me a couple minutes and the attitude.

We enjoyed the old movie and music theme in this updated prior rectory. After spending the last several years of travel in hotels and Airbnb's, we have come to remember how personal and inviting B&Bs are. This particular one, however, is one of the best. The BB is two blocks from Warren Street for quick access to restaurants and shops. There is also a retail shop on Warren Street where you can spot many of the unique items from the house. The shop is very well curated. We stayed in Room 5 which has a private deck off the room that my husband used every morning and evening. It's the room with the beautifully updated blue bathroom. The only thing missing from the room and the bathroom was brighter light - our eyes no longer perform as well in dim lighting! We spent most of the mornings and afternoons on several hikes throughout the area - all of them peaceful and beautiful. The waterfalls at the end were stunning.

No breakfast unfortunately due to COVID reasons. The restaurant on site, La Perla, was fantastic for dinner. You may wait a bit on Friday nights, but the food was totally worth the wait! True Italian cuisine. On the second night, we tried a wood fired pizza and it did not disappoint! After two long days of helping my sister move and paint her new house in Troy, Gregory House was a comfortable and lovely place to feed our bellies and lay our heads! The room we reserved was not the room we stayed in therefore making it difficult to work without a desk and the extra space we paid for but didn't get. No one apologized for this inconvenience. The amenities were not as stated on their website either. Only one bike available, no pressed coffee, no charcuterie either. Our bed was comfortable but our room either too hot or very cold. Easy parking and very clean. The cleaning lady was very nice! Make sure and stay upstairs, the rooms downstairs I think would not be very quiet. If the amenities were as they advertised I would stay here again.

I was not offered a refund and the managers tried to switch me to a room that was already occupied. There was confusion by the managers on what to do. I deserved a refund. You get what you pay for.

The building itself is impressive, although maybe not quite as impressive as the castle-looking building next door. Our party of seven settled in at the bar as there otherwise did not seem to be a large enough table for all of us to gather around in either the main lounge area or a small room off to the side. The dark wood paneled walls, large fireplace, assortment of easy chairs, couches, and high desktop table gave off a feeling of warmth and welcoming. The friendly bartender introduced herself (sorry I've forgotten her name) and informed us that spirit-wise, the bar was capable of preparing the standard, traditional drinks like Manhattans, martinis, etc. All beers were poured from cans, and at my request, she recited the names of about six that were available. I don't believe anyone in our party inquired about the wines that were available. The building simply calls out for an explanation of its history. Upon our request, the bartender offered to provide either the "brief" or "full" option. We requested the full history. She was obviously well up to the task. You would be amazed at the variety of things you could learn here. Just to touch on a few key topics that were mentioned, consider Alexander Hamilton's wife, puffed rice, Bab-o cleanser (cue up the jingle), Bishop Gibbons, and an orthopedic surgeon. I don't know what the normal food arrangements are in the Lounge. I'm guessing that our out-of-town hosts requested some snacks for us as a few bowls appeared with mixed nuts, crackers and cheese, fresh grapes, humus, and warm pretzel/croissant rolls, and a plate of prosciutto wrapped cream cheese. Overall, the atmosphere here is simply friendly and inviting. I think it will become an occasional gathering place for our local friends when looking for a place that is quiet and relaxing.

The rooms are furnished with just the right amount of furniture allowing the room to feel light and airy. Each room is designed with the right amount of seating for flow and multiple conversation points without anyone feeling crowded or being interrupted by another conversation. Although the rooms have dark paneling the large windows and French doors allow for an abundance of light. The backyard is lovely and flows into Washington Park! Imagine having a whole park as your backyard!! I would love to come back for a stay!
