My girlfriend and I did not stay at the inn, but we did come to the restaurant for dinner on a frigid Saturday night in February. From start to finish it was truly a wonderful experience. Absolutely a night of classic elegance and decadent food. We arrived 30 minutes before our reservation to sit at the bar and have a pre-dinner cocktail. We each had an old fashioned, which were excellently made by the very friendly bartender. The bar area was small and intimate with small side areas with high top tables, couches and armchairs. We could have happily spent all night in this area. We were later seated in the restaurant area and had another round of drinks, an appetizer (roasted pork terrine) and two entrees (chicken Milanese and the lamb shoulder ragu). Skandaken Inn in Oliverea Valley is the cozy restaurant at the Shandaken Inn serving hearty fare sourced from local Catskills purveyors. For starters we had their incredible house-made Parker house rolls with cultured butter garnished with salt and thyme. They came ripping hot out of the oven with the perfect flaky texture. These could've be served at the best steakhouses in NYC for how perfect they were. We also had the Caesar salad and ricotta and spinach dumplings. We were particularly pleased with the dumplings which were accompanied by tender baby hakurei turnips. We split the Wagyu burger with crispy, pressed fries for our entree. The burger was juicy and topped with caramelized onions and tangy thousand island sauce. Dessert was a spectacular sticky toffee pudding which was perhaps the best sticky toffee pudding we've ever had. It was generously portioned and swimming in toffee sauce. We came here for dinner last night and had a spectacular experience. The staff were all super friendly, the vibes were cozy and the immaculate property and restaurant were picture perfect. But, what I came here to write a review about was the FOOD. Holy cow. We're not often blown away, especially by most upstate fare (sad but true), but this was one of the best meals we've had in ages. Their Caesar salad was probably the best we've ever had. Their burger was a 10/10. And the roast pork pasta dish with lemongrass and mascarpone was to die for- reminiscent of one of my favorite dishes at Gaskins (rip). We ended the night with some fireside s'mores and corn hole. To say we'll be back for dinner would be an understatement- We'll likely just spend the weekend! read more

Overall, enjoyed our time staying at the Inn for 4 nights in early October 2025 to witness the magical Catskills foliage and beauty. Stayed in the one dog-friendly cabin which was excellent - cabin had a smart layout, and was spacious, cozy, clean (with one minor exception) and quiet. Also, the main lobby area is lovely and the local restaurant is great. The burger I had here was frankly among the best I've ever had, and I'm picky. I cannot though in good faith give this Inn 5 stars for 3 important reasons: 1. The free breakfast has very irritating strings attached; you are given a fairly limited selection of food options and a strict "no modifications" policy is in place. Whomever is managing this place, I do urge you to reconsider this archaic approach which really detracts from the quality of one of the key elements of the stay. Reasonable modifications are easy to accommodate, inexpensive and would be far more aligned with this hotel's image as a high-end establishment. Which is why that's the approach in virtually all like-regarded hotels in the country these days... 2. Heating of the outdoor pool was stopped 2 days prior to our arrival on a "seasonal decision" basis, per the front desk. This is frankly tantamount to closing the pool altogether, during a week where temps hovered in the 60s, so still very much legitimate pool weather. If you close the pool on guests, at least ping them in advance and/or offer some type of compensation considering the pool is one of the draws. Again, I feel like this is the type of nickel-and-diming that does disservice to the establishment's reputation. 3. The water pressure in the cabin showers was irritatingly low. read more

A big disappointment! As a family we Do not recommend. Agreed on an amount with the general manager Rafael and he sent us an invoice with a different amount, the money here is not important but how he handled ( hanging up the phone and not communicate to make the refund ) He made a mistake and instead of solving the problem he didn't respond the phone calls and didn't accept what he did on the emails and he used the term "I excused myself from the calls" for the hanging ups. We are very disappointed by how the hotel handled this . Didn't get an apology and didn't get any refund for extra $78 he charged. read more

I stayed at Shandaken this summer and our stay was absolutely wonderful! I'm so glad to of found this gem in the woods. From the tennis courts, to the pool, corn hole and nightly s'mores around the fire pit - this place is a woodsy, whimsical retreat. The morning breakfast is so vast you can order yogurt, blueberry pancakes, eggs and the staff is very accommodating. Added bonus that my group and I all agreed that they have the SOFTEST bathrobes that we've ever felt. The sourdough bread at dinner was also a highlight. Hello, Your hotel allows dogs to stay in the rooms, which is so off putting that I don't care to stay here -- Looks charming and picturesque, but the potential for allergens, fleas and ticks is has an ick factor to it. Hotels should revert to policies that accommodate all customers, which dog allowance policies do not. read more

The Clubhouse at Shandaken Inn, I will start with the restaurant, Absolutely Outstanding! This restaurant upstate New York is truly a hidden gem. We had a wonderful stay at the Shandaken Inn - it really exceeded our expectations. The property is lovely and the inn is extremely well maintained and comfortable. Everything you need is right there. The outdoor dining area looks out to the open space and the surrounding mountains. We spent five days at this wonderful B&B. The rooms were beautifully appointed and very clean. The setting was bucolic with views of the surrounding mountains. A gem in the Catskills. Perfect for couples. Rooms are so fresh, clean, and updated for all modern conveniences. Bed is luxurious. Pool is lovely. Breakfast is generous and complimentary, with a full menu to choose from. Service is warm and friendly and everyone here is laid back. The guest room floor has a large fridge that can be shared. We enjoyed getting takeout one night and just lounging by the pool reading with the peaceful Catskills backdrop. The setting is fantastic and it's great for drinks, we live nearby and have been many times but the issue is the food. Food there has gone downhill and won't be eating there again. Also my fiancee got served chicken in a bowl, how do you cut chicken in the bowl, and it was dry. We were both extremely frustrated. FIVE STARS!! I would give more if it were possible. My husband and I came here after our wedding to relax for a few days. We swam in their beautiful heated pool, had a drink by the fire pit and played games in the lobby. The rooms are immaculate and beautifully decorated. Their restaurant was AMAZING - we ordered ceasar salad, scallops, homemade pasta, Arctic char, chocolate creme brûlée and another dessert I can't remember the name. Every dish was better than the last!! The Breakfast was THE BEST we've ever had. It was complimentary and wasn't your regular average buffet, it was sit down with a menu of over a dozen things to choose from - YUM. Their staff was top notch. Cody was our waiter at dinner and was so knowledgeable about everything on the menu. Rafael was wonderful, greeted us and always asked if we need anything. There was another guy who checked us in and another guy who helped us at breakfast and they were both so incredible nice. You would think the entire staff owned the Inn with how much they cared about our experience and the history of the Inn. The food is very good despite the limited menu. However, The dining room itself needs some serious change. Eat outside on the pretty porch if the weather permits otherwise you'll be sandwiched between walls covered with weird blue wood paneling- an unexpected let down from the very cozy, and welcoming, bar and reception area. For the prices charged a tablecloth would be expected rather than a bare polyurethaned table. Turned into trash in 2023, UNFORTUNATELY. My guess is they replaced the chef-- and then it all fell apart after that for them. Lots of trashy people in the space, lots of random kids running everywhere... random dogs... etc. (this used to be a somewhat refined place where you could take someone on a date or hold a business dinner) Now, prices are the same, except food is literal trash. There is no care, no effort about plating, and definitely no effort how it tastes. Over the past two years I have been there 12 times for dinner.... The 10th... 11th time things started to dwindle. Now after about 4 month hiatus we went back, and that will be the last, and final time. Menu is in same realm and tone as before, but completely unrefined, no presentation, no care, staff is moron level (some do not speak English). Lots of better options around... After promptly seating a couple in front of us, the host told us that there was no room for us due to a large party and no option for take out. He said that we could wait for the party to be finished but he had "no idea" how long that would be. He made no effort to be helpful in any way or at the very least kind and courteous. My wife and I and a couple friends stayed at the Shandaken Inn this past weekend for a ski trip to nearby Hunter Mountain. The Inn was perfect in every way! The setting was gorgeous, it is off of Rte 28 nestled in the mountains. It had a spacious living room with a wood burning fire, books on the Catskills and board games. The bar and restaurant served delicious food, drinks and desserts. Above all, the staff was incredibly nice and the hospitality was maybe the best we've ever experienced. We can't wait to come back! Fantastic! My husband and I had dinner here last night, our first post-COVID dinner outing. We were warmly greeted on arrival and led to a lovely table on the patio. The setting is lovely; the patio looks over a meadow with mature trees and mountains in the background. The furnishings are solid and rustic and in line with the setting. My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights around New Years. When we arrived at the Inn, Tim and Raphael were there to greet us and check us in. They quickly provided us with our key and paperwork to sign, and ushered us to our room helping with our bags. The rooms are gorgeous! One of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in, and the fireplace was a great touch. The bathroom is the definition of luxury (don't forget to try the robes) and it came stocked with high end toiletries. My wife had packed a bottle of champagne and wine, and when we came back from lunch they had put wine glasses and champagne flutes in our room without us even having to ask which was really a thoughtful touch. My wife and I had a wonderful weekend stay for her birthday. The rooms are very pleasant and well decorated. The bed and sheets were awesome. The main area is welcoming and friendly with lots of places to read, relax or sit in front of the fire. We had dinner here on Friday night and it was awesome. I had venison loin with roasted vegetables and my wife had the mushroom tagliatelle. The dishes were great. In the morning the pastry chef had gluten free bread and muffins for me, which was lovely to have accommodated. We will come back and give Shandankan Inn a great review. read more

My scallops (raw) with pickled blueberries were a taste sensation that was the mark of a chef who most definitely knows what he/she is doing! Other meals at the table were also "special". When she asked if she could swap her Einkorn for greens she was told no...unless they just charged her $4 for a side salad. Seriously? In this day and age? Ate at The Clubhouse at the Shandaken Inn last nite and had a great meal! Fresh crispy Caesar salad, chicken, black bass and wine. Service was good. Sat at a high table in the bar area but the table was woefully small. Odd that there was no bread served (and there were bread plates) and the portions were kinda small. The chicken had no veggie with it (and no sides available to order) and the look of the plates was bare. But overall a lovely and very tasty experience. read more

Just finished dinner here. Nice outside seating; good job with COVID. 4 out of our six dinners were good. Service was not so good. We asked for a salmon dinner to be served without tomatoes, the server explained it was not possible because it was cooked in the tomatoes. When another person in our party received their salmon order, we could see the salmon was just setting on top of the tomatoes. So was this a server or chef issue. The second issue we had was more serious. The salmon we did get was raw. We had it returned, they heated up the same piece of salmon and it was still not cooked. The server then told us that they cook the salmon just to room temperature - that is raw! They should have advised this when we ordered so we could ask for the salmon to be cooked fully. It was disappointing that after we returned the salmon, the staff did not come to check on us. They did remove the salmon meal from the, but the service experience was poor. read more
