The sad bit is I won't be seeing them every day. They've just finished doing major repairs on my front porch, siding and ceilings. Until they started the repairs (caused by termite and water damage I didn't know I had), my porch had been held up by the hand of God. Then He handed it over to the Dynamic Duo to fix. It was almost a shame to put the siding back on over the studs and insulation because Lauricella and Son are seasoned craftsmen of the highest order. Oh, and my beautiful put-back-together-again, re-beautified front door! I could digress and go on about how delightful David and Dave are, or how they go out of their way to do what you want done, or how I gave them a key to my now beautiful front door when I was out of town, or how I never had to sweep up after them. When we asked the guys to do some actual work -- remove plants that had died in the freeze months prior, trim hedges, weed, etc, we were told "not today-- I am trying to get to my sons baseball game". We expected the work requested would be finished the following week, but it never happened. They also overcharge. They charged us for something like 60 bags of mulch and 140 annuals planted. We did not need that much mulch nor were 140 annuals planted-- we counted. When we alerted Matt to our disappointment with the service we were receiving he said he would "check it out". We never heard back.

IF YOU HAVE HAD WORK DONE BY PONSETI & FEEL YOU WERE OVERCHARGED, PLEASE CONTACT ME ON FACEBOOK. We trusted this man to take our brand new assisted living home & do something special with it, he disregarded my ideas, did what he wanted to do, communicated poorly, & took advantage of us because it looked like we had a lot of money to spend. My wife & I own Audubon Care Homes Assisted Living & Memory Care. We own two small 10 resident assisted living homes in Metairie where we care for seniors who cannot care for themselves. I have lived in this community my entire life, I try to do business locally, & I try to be easy to do business with. Matthew was engaged to do the landscaping for one of the houses mentioned above that was just finishing construction & to refresh landscaping at our first location. In total, he has billed me for about $108,000. He has billed me incorrectly, inflated charges, tried to charge me $275 to meet to discuss what he planned on doing(twice, two charges), he has sent me statements with invoices on them that I have never ever seen, changed charges on at least one item, charged me for incorrect numbers of plants, almost missed the grand opening date for the home because he was not listening when I told him the date & gave him the flyer with the date on it. My experience with him is that he has been childish, unprofessional, argumentative, arrogant and claims his work & materials are far superior to anyone else in the area. I called around & got quotes for the work from other companies & they were literally half of the cost. The only reason i started to investigate my statements was because he invoiced me for 800 society garlic plants(only planted 116), 270 petunias(only 110), 45 & 50 bags of mulch for 'maintenance' that i did not authorize & that did not line up with the original mulch he put down at the houses (32 and 20 bags, respectively). He charged me at total of $13,990 for landscape lighting at one of the locations for front and backyard. Seriously? 14k? This was for a total of 40 lights & two transformers. He told me the lights each cost $90, so that is approx. $3600 in lights, call it $4500 with the transformers. How does this turn into $13,990? And I didn't even see the invoice months later when it just showed up on a statement. One statement he changed from $7440 to $16,865 & I didn't notice until I started going through each one individually, which at this point, has taken a total of 17 hours between sorting through the unorganized billing & invoices & statements. After close to 8 months he finally sent me paper invoices in the mail for me to review after i questioned his charges. Another invoice for $18,805, I knew nothing about until I noticed it on the statement. He also tried to charge me $170 to put fertilizer down at two houses. I can buy two years worth of fertilizer for that much. I told him before you do any additional maintenance type work, you need to let me know first so i know what the charge is before you start, but he failed to do so. He also removed a tree, then planted a massive patch of St. Aug grass where I had Zoysia grass. Since they do absolutely no weed control, i had to personally go to both houses, pull weeds & spray roundup because it was just out of control. The list goes on & on and on. What a nightmare. As far as maintenance work, his guys come for 10 minutes, weed eat a small patch of grass & don't touch the bushes or the weeds. All of the grass is now growing into the beds. How am I supposed to trust him that he puts down fertilizer & uses the quantities he says he uses when everything on my invoices is wildly incorrect. Don't take my word for it, see photos attached.

Thankfully, I wasn't stuck with them for the whole project. I have experience in renovation and historical restoration, and am detail oriented, and had high hopes for a successful professional relationship. On the plus side, they were always responsive to my communications, and seemed to understand what needed to be done. On the minus side, I don't know where to begin. All of the work, except management, on our project was handled by sub-contactors, not direct employees of Pokorn. Adding that additional layer of management inflated the cost of the job significantly. Too many generals, not enough soldiers. Their subs are of varying quality. For example, one subcontractor framed for a new closet in a way that partially obstructed an adjacent door because of a measurement mistake on the architect's plans. The sub didn't think "Oh look. Something's not right. I should ask how to proceed". They just went ahead and built it, even though the drawn plans showed no obstruction, necessitating tearing out the mistake and rebuilding. They also put the subfloors down in the bathrooms before the plumbing drain work was done. The plans clearly showed the fixtures being relocated within the rooms. Something else to tear out. When they removed the subfloor I saw that the bathroom vent duct for the bathroom below had very obviously been crushed (stepped on at the joist), which is why the bathroom vent below had no air flow. If the subfloor hadn't needed to be torn out, this air flow problem could have been difficult to diagnose and expensive to fix later on. Somehow all the generals didn't notice the substandard work. All these blunders would be comical if they weren't so frustrating. Pokorn did correct their mistakes after I pointed them out and asked them to, which is the only reason they got 2 stars. I should not have to do this work: it's their responsibility. Read their contract carefully before signing. It is written in a way that keeps too much power in their hands. They are strict about expecting payment within 72 hours of their submitting an invoice, even if they've screwed up and not yet corrected the work being invoiced. If you're late in paying, they can immediately stop work and require an extra $500 to start up again. You can make the payment "under protest", but then have to trust that they will fix the issue. To their credit, they always did, but I was upset that I had to trust a company that was messing up left and right. Why should this even have to happen in the first place? As is pretty standard, they ask for periodic payments as work progresses. They are the sole determiners of when a phase is substantially completed, which is not unusual, but ask for payment at a point when other contactors I've worked with (and I) would have considered the phase only partially completed. These examples do not exhaust the deficiencies or problems experienced during the short time I employed Pokorn. Let the buyer beware.

I have had the opportunity to work with them twice, once to do a small dryer vent repair/installation and once to replace all my major appliances, upgrade my home's electrical breaker boxes and repair/install new outlets. Both times, their professionalism, frequent communications, and monetary value for services provided were second to none! During projects things sometime do not go according to plan, but this company takes immediate action to correct any problem and to make sure things are set right. I will give you an example, during my appliance replacement, the microwave that was ordered from a vendor in NJ (I believe) was delivered to these folks and had sustained obvious damage during the shipment...not caused by them, but man, before lunch, they had procured the exact same make/model from a local provider which made sure that they did not fall behind schedule; their problem solving was done seamlessly, and took away all my worry about this major project. Really cannot say enough good things about this team....they are my go-to contractor when I need their expertise...do yourself a favor and make them your go-to contractor as well!!

I explained that I thought they were done for the day and gave them my phone number so that they could contact me when they were on their way and when they were leaving.
