My husband and I are in the market for a new mechanic and so we thought we would try this guy out. We went in with my Ford Escape 2017 for a noise that was happening underneath the car. This guy told my husband that the transfer case was loose and a bracket was broken on it so he put a nut in it to "temporary fix" it. Keep in mind he fixed it before even calling to say what it was. So he claimed that the wrong transmission was in the car and that we needed to take it back to where we previously had it done a year ago! So we did and they checked it over and the transmission is fine. We don't know what this guy fixed to stop the noise but to scare us like that when we have had pervious transmission issues and to charge us $50 for whatever he did. We are not impressed and we will not be going back. read more

I've been taking my vehicles (5 of them) to Howes for nearly 15 years. I never buy new cars because I hate the depreciation. Older cars require service so Howes has been the answer . They're always fair and quick. Having them as my "go to" gives me one less thing to worry about. read more

If you want an old time, personal, relational mechanic that respects you and takes care of you then you need to come see the Howe's. Their prices are great and their work is honest. They are the only place I take my vehicles because I can trust them. I'm not a very mechanical guy, but they explain to me what's wrong in language that I can understand and help me make the best decision for getting my vehicle fixed. I had gone to Howes for years and then they screwed me on some repair work. I tried to get them to fix their mistake but all I got was the run-around. Read the other complaints from others who have dealt with the short fat guy and his rude wife. There are other mechanics in the area that run circles around howe's crappy and overpriced repair work. I paid Howes to brake in a new motor for me. The brake in was done improperly and I was treated with disrespect and stonewalled by him and his wife/resepctionist when I gave them the opportunity to fix the problem. He went around bad mouthing me and my fiancé to some of my very good friends. He neglected or improperly repair my vehicle when the previous owner had it, which I also repaired or paid for repair. He lied in court and got lucky the judge know nothing of cars or mechanics. He even stooped as low as to partially blame his wife, who was not present. Justice failed as bad as my motor did. His $400 job done wrong cost me and my kids $4000. Dont learn the hard way like me. Find a different mechanic. read more

I went to howes auto shop a few months back to get a couple things done to my car (Basic things like oil change, and tune up) Howe was rude the whole time from the moment I took my car there till I left. He was short and snappy and seemed like he was just having a bad day so I didn't think much of it.. I came back a few days ago and this was the WORST experience I've ever had. Out of any company, restaurant, car place, anything. The short fat guy ( I believe that's Howe the owner) was so rude it was unbelievable.. He treated me like I was stupid the whole time and when I would ask questions he would sigh or roll his eyes like I was an inconvenience.. Him and his wife are dishonest people and very rude. I will never go back to there business and I encourage the rest of you to not go there either. read more

Howe's Automotive is a wonderful family owned business in the restored portion of the Hillyard neighborhood on North Market. We have been taking our family's vehicles to Lee and Patty for a few years now since our next-door neighbor recommended them. Lee is honest and thorough and Patty keeps the shop runnin' smooth. We have even towed in our Toyota in the middle of replacing a water pump and Lee had it up and running even though he was forced to be the 2nd hand in the mechanics.
