I went to Golden Rule a year ago for brakes was told I didn't need brakes come back in the fall. I did , was told I still didn't need brakes , come back . 3 weeks ago I made an appointment (was sure by now I'd need brakes ) they told me I had 25000.. 30000 more miles . Good service, and seemingly very honest. My ABS light was on, so I decided to try Golden Rule. Within minutes, they hooked up their diagnostic tool right in front of me and showed me the result. They even took the time to explain what it all meant. Scheduled an appointment for the next morning. When I got there, they offered me a choice of a certified Ford part or a cheaper aftermarket part. The repair didn't take too long, and they didn't try any hard sales our scare me into thinking more was wrong. Price of part and labor was certainly reasonable. I had a really bad experience at the Francis Golden Rule Brake. I took my 2003 Honda CRV in to have the brakes fixed. The came back with a report that declared that the CRV needed struts, control arms, and sway bar links. I took it for a second opinion and found that all those parts are still in good shape. So get a second opinion before allowing them to do the work. Also their prices on parts is really high. They wanted $300.00 for a part that is only $135.00. There is a lot more I want to say, but I'm getting really upset again. read more

They gave me a quote of $1500 for a brake job. Told me every single component had to be replaced. Including the front brakes which were only 2 years old. Stated the front brakes were metal against metal. When I went in and asked them to show me ( I have changed over 200 sets of brakes myself), they refused. When I took my vehicle the battery light was on ( not on when I took it in). Then my brake pedal now went to the floor. Checked the brake fluid. Almost empty. Was full when it went in. I will never go there again and will STRONGLY discourage ANYONE from going there. Theft is theft. I am a car collector and they all have Golden Rule brakes. For the past few years GR has added other services. My 91 BMW also has their steering rack, my 79 Fairmont is unique in that it has front struts, as does the KIA OPTIMA my wife drives and my old 97 Buick Ultra. The 66 Mustang and my work truck both have GR shocks. A couple years ago GR added on to their Pines Road shop and put in the equipment for alignment. The guys always check for issues that need to be addressed. I often check around and their pricing is not just competitive it's usually less. For example shocks on my Rondo $350, KIA dealer $675. They don't offer a lot of other automotive services but they are the best in town for the work they do. read more

While I was still quite disappointed with the way the employee handled our business, I would visit golden rule again. I appreciate his commitment to customer service. I have changed my rating from 1 star to 4. Original review: I am so disappointed with our experience at this Golden Rule Brake. I made an appointment for my minivan and brought my toddler and newborn in to have it looked at right after the first snow. I was informed that I needed new pads, rotors and calipers on all 4 wheels, totaling just over $1200. Right before Christmas. Ugh. I had it looked at by two other local mechanics that week, both of which agreed that A) Calipers almost NEVER need to be replaced and B) The front pads and rotors were all that needed to be replaced. So we saved around $1,000 this holiday season. Having dealt with them before (we had brought our other vehicle into the Monroe store in 2011 and they were honest about us not needing to replace our pads yet) we didnt anticipate this outcome. As an out-of-towner, they demonstrated the Golden rule. I was traveling, when a mechanic in Seattle told me my "control arm" was faulty and my wheel could fly off my car at any time. When I got to Spokane, I was terrified already. Broke but scared, I went to these guys. They told me there was nothing wrong with my car within 2 minutes, free of charge. About 5 years ago I went into golden rule to have my car looked at for a tie rod end and some brakes. I was furious because the estimate was over $1200. I then took my car to Dishman Dodge where I purchased my car for an estimate as well. The dealership did the exact same work with OEM parts for $600 less than golden rule quoted me. I have always heard horror stories about golden rule but never believed them. Now that I have first-hand experience, I will never go back to Golden rule again! read more

I was so impressed with Golden Rule's service, prices, and honesty that I recommend them to everyone. I have gone here several times for new brakes, rotors, and shocks/struts. They are friendly and informative. I usually do all of the work on my truck myself, but when it came to brakes and rotors, and the way my truck was braking, I wanted to leave the work to professionals. The guys on Francis patiently answered all of my questions and made sure I got a much better deal than a "stealership" or major tire chain (ie Les Schwabs or Alton's). Why take your car to a tire place for new brakes? Golden Rule will always be my first choice for brakes/shocks etc. in Spokane, followed by Tune Tech for other repairs. read more

I went to Golden Rule for an estimate on my brakes. I knew I only needed pads. By the time they were done they added on rotors alignment and struts. A total of $1,300. I watched them take off my tires and mess around with my car. Then when I drove away I almost got in a wreck as my brake pedal went all the way to the floor. It was not doing that when I took it in. I brought my car in for an estimate because it was grinding in the rear when braking. I expected to need new shoes and drums. Kelly and team quickly inspected the brakes and found them to be in good shape and not needing repair. They also checked the wheel bearings as a courtesy. They were fast, polite, and honest. I was recommended to come here to get my tires aligned on my car. I was not thrilled about this as I had just taken my car to the dealer and was under the impression they were doing/should have done this. It was slated to cost $65-$100. I dropped my car off and waited for the call that it was ready to pick up. They called me about an hour later and said they had looked it over and an alignment wasn't necessary, everything was right on. They could have EASILY pulled a fast one on me and done it anyways and collected their money but they didn't. They were honest. These days, that's HUGE. If there is anything I dislike more than being over charged, it's being made to feel ignorant. Last night, I heard my brakes making noises that where there an hour before. After being recommended to Golden Rule and hearing great reviews on the radio, I contacted them and made an appointment for my car to be check and possibly have new brakes put on. I arrived just before 10:30 am. I left my car, they then called me at 11:06 am telling me that I needed new brakes and rotors on all 4 wheels...."with tax and labor that will be about $656.82". ok. I asked if there any way to make is less expensive as far as parts go and he said we could go with less expensive brake pads but that would only save me $40. Fine......I wanted my car fixed. I then walked back to the shop cause I was just around the corner, and sat there waiting. They started actually working on my car at 11:30am. At 12:30 they called my name to the front desk and he promptly asked for $656.82. "Can I see the receipt and what was done?" I asked....he looked at me annoyed. And then handed me a greasy itemized receipt. Didn't explain a thing in it until I started questioning some of what was listed. I asked how much they charge for labor..."$75/hr" my receipt said I was being charged $230 total for labor. I stated that they had only been working on my car for an hour, 2 if they included taking my wheels off and giving me an estimate. During their time working on my car, 3 guys stood there drinking their iced coffee and laughing (I got pics and video of it for proof of work, never underestimate someone with a phone). So let's go with 2 hours....that's $150? "did you not see 3 guys working on your car?" And " we go by the book and for this job it's estimated 3.07 hours, so that's what we charge" is what he told me. When I asked a little more about parts wanting them explained....I was made to feel incompetent because clearly cars aren't my specialty. The person was rude in all of his comments, and didn't want to explain a thing to me. The simple fact that he asked for a payment before explaining charges was ridiculous, and I had to request a print out before paying. Not acceptable. If I am paying that much money, you better explain what I'm paying for. He was snarky in his tone and made me feel like I was an incompetent girl bringing her car. In today's day and age, that's not the image you want to display. I won't recommend this place to my friends and I will gladly tell those who told me to go, the type of service I experienced. Definitely not the kind of service I was expecting from this local company. I had a much better experience from Les Schwab to be honest. I'm rating it 2 stars because the quality of work (so far) was good. But poor customer service over all. I wouldn't mind spending as much as I did if the service was better. Right now I am just feeling buyers remorse on what I got.... Again, never under estimate someone with a phone, pics and videos, plus the ability to price other facilities and parts. 100% not returning now that I know I can get my parts elsewhere for cheaper and other facilities who will actually charge me per hour instead of the max that they're aloud to (by the book ). Terrible! Brought in two vehicles within a week, that was a mistake, should have seen their performance with just one first. They turned rotors and installed new pads, bled the lines. Both vehicles' brakes squealed, even just backing out of the garage. Brought the vehicles back, they blamed in on dirty pads, supposedly cleaned them, the brakes still squeal. (Why didn't the pads every get dirty and squeal for the first 120k miles I put on both vehicles?) Now, with less than 10k miles after the service/replacmenent, I have terrible pulsating in both vehciles when I apply the brakes, at all speeds. These guys lied to me about the dirty pads, and did a terrible job. read more

I have never posted anything on yelp, until this. My son took his 2009 Chevy Silverado into this company, on my recommendation from the radio ads, as his brakes were making some noise. He came home with 3 quotes totaling $3700 worth of repairs he needed.....front & back brakes, rotors and shoes; axle seals, struts, shocks, control arms and ball joints. We were shocked!!!! We got a second opinion. Only back brakes were needed at this time to the tune of only $450 and he will need ball joints in the near future.....$500 more. I really think they took advantage of this young kid (almost 18) that went in there by himself. They wanted him to stay and have the work done right then and there as they were slow. I said no and asked if theyd be able to look at them he said not till 10. I stayed I needed to go to work and asked if he could fit me in sooner. It seemed funny to him and he told me no. I was told by the Acura dealership that my brakes were at an "unsafe level" for the last 2 oil changes.. so I did my research and took my car to Golden Rule for the replacement. They put my car on the lift, and came back telling me my brakes aren't even close to needing to be replaced. I was shocked that the local dealership had been lying to me and have been aggressively trying to get me to get them replaced when in fact they are completely fine. My 18 year old daughter went into Golden Rule Brake on Friday October 30, 2015 at 10:30 with a noisy brake on her 1995 Ford Ranger Pickup. The manager "Michael" said they were too busy to look at the vehicle, so she would have to leave it overnight and work on it the next day at 1:00 PM. She said she couldn't leave the vehicle because she had to go to work that afternoon. The manager, "Michael" said that if she was in an accident she would be "charged with a felony" apparently because she knew of a brake defect. This is completely ludicrous! Nice scare tactic Golden Rule Brake. I called Mike the Manager at Golden Rule Brake today on behalf of my daughter, and he verified by daughter's description of the visit. No one at the brake shop actually looked at her vehicle, and to make this outlandish statement about committing a felony is disconcerting to say the least. Her vehicle is now at a reputable auto repair facility in the Spokane area getting new pads and rotors installed on the front end of the vehicle. I needed to get my front breaks replaced and heard good things about this place and their pricing. But apparently, because I'm a 22 year old female, they can quote me at $700 just for breaks when they called me on the phone. Then, when I told them I was going to look at other places to do them, the guy brought out the quote paper and the price had magically changed to $346.09. They also told me I had a loose wheel bearing and that my tire was literally shaking off of my car (which would have cost me an extra $200 according to them) but when I took it to another mechanic they showed me that everything was tight and it didn't need to be done. Needless to say, Instead of paying $900, I paid $290 and no one tried to take advantage of me or rip me off because of my age and race.
