We were in town and went here for Friday fish fry during Lent. It was loud, and the bar atmosphere competes with the restaurant atmosphere, but it was busy and between Friday fish and NCAA basketball, the servers were hopping. The food was fantastic. The beers were cold. The staff were attentive and friendly. Even though it gives bar-in-a-college-town, there were also plenty of families having a night out, as well. The service was quick and friendly, our waitress was attentive and provided our orders accurately. The draft beer was cold and fresh; there appears to be a good selection. We ordered two smoked wing platters with the "Hometown Sauce". The wings were crispy, but not over cooked and very tasty. The hometown sauce was exactly what I was looking for. It was spicy and very flavorful, the heat was cumulative and by the time I finished my basket I had a good sheen of sweat on my head. Highly recommended this sauce if you enjoy heat and flavor. We also had a bruschetta salad which we split. That too was flavorful and quite large. The place is large with a lot of seating. The place is welcoming and clean. The men's bathroom was clean. The place was very lively and filled with televisions. The waitress took our drink order and we decided to try the signature Cheesy Bacon Bombs. They arrived in a short period of time and were worth every penny. The Jack Cheese gave them a creamy taste without the normal "bite" of the Jack cheese. Price vs. Value was ok for a party of three or four. I decided to go all the way and try the Howie Burger. The double bacon burger was very filling and the Howie Dynamite sauce increase the flavor with a bit of fire. My wife thought it was "hot" but I rated it more of a medium spicy taste. The French fries were good as well. I went with the refillable strawberry lemonade. Pretty sweet! I couldn't drink a second and elected for a glass of water. I wanted the 1919 Root beer but they were not refillable which is pretty standard among the restaurants. Everyone in our party was very pleased with the flavor and taste of the food. I wanted something that would still taste good after lightly reheating, so I decided to order their Philly Cheese Steak sandwich with a side of coleslaw. The coleslaw tasted fresh, not too heavy on the mayonnaise, and not overly sweet, which I liked. The slight acidity from the coleslaw paired nicely with the richness of the cheese steak. The cheese steak itself was very generously filled, well seasoned, and the onions were perfectly grilled. The bun was soft and chewy, which soaked up all the beefy cheesy goodness.
