Place is disgusting and the menu is deceptive. They will mislead and then overcharge you. And when you point out that the menu is confusing, they charge you extra and act like assholes about it. Avoid this place. Avoid Mauston really. Owner sucks. read more

This place does an amazing job with crowds. During the lunch hour, it's about the only place open with food and beverage. We frequent this friendly place but last Saturday, 6/27, there was an event nearby. I counted 28 people walking in around lunchtime. The lone bartender and cook did a great job of keeping up but also,they did not seem 'rushed' but calm. Food was tasty. Prices were right. Keep it going! read more

This is just above average. Fries are crisp and good but the burger was just ok. I went by the previous reviews thinking we were in for a great bar burger but both my husband and I were not impressed. Maybe this is the best in the area? But Lacrosse isn't too far away so I'm guessing not. We sat at a table so can't really speak on the service as you go to the bar to put your order in so very little interaction with the staff. Locals at bar definitely were something and gave us a lot to listen to... Won't go back. read more

I needed to get out of the house for the day and have always wanted to drive the Great River Road. Well in doing that I need lunch. I started in Prairie du Chien and assumed something would pop up. It wasn't until I hit Stoddard that I found something, literally right on highway 35. I walked in and their was a few people that appeared and sounded like regulars. I didn't catch anyone's name, however I did order some food. I order the turtle burger and french fries with a Pepsi. The total bill was around $7. The burger was delicious, it was juicy, hand formed meat patty. The bun wasn't your standard bun, I'm not sure how to describe it other than it was very good. The fries were very well seasoned and had a distinct flavor. The ambiance of this place is awesome. It has this old small town community bar feel with worn out bar stools and and old bar top. The bartender was very friendly in recommending scenic overlooks on my way to La Crosse. As Rich (The original Yelper for this fine establishment mentioned) it's super friendly here. Easy parking and the prices couldn't be beat. read more

Great little dive bar - we love going to the Thirsty Turtle - excellent homemade pizza, delicious burgers, and the beer is always cold. Plus there's usually at least one drunk at the bar which makes for some good entertainment! Staff works hard because they're usually fairly busy! Worth the stop in Stoddard! read more

This place was absolutely shit because the burgers were dryer than the Sahara desert and it took an hour and a half for us to get half of our food. Also the cheese curds we're supposed to be appetizers but they put them as a side (idiots). One of my friends has been waiting for 2 hours now, just for one burger. read more

Met a close friend in Dubuque, Iowa for a motorcycle trip. We drove north into Le Crescent, MN, over the bridge to La Crosse, WI and asked a local for a place to eat. They recommended the Thirsty Turtle. We drove a few more miles south to Stoddard and were blown away by the friendly service (I'm from Chicago and they're native Chicagoans) and the great food. WOW!!! What a find.This is a tavern type restaurant. Over the years I did not stop here because of smoking. Now there is no smoking. The food is unbelievable. Sam ((the owners son) knows how to cook, but maybe even more important he knows how and where to order the food. Cheryl the owner and her two sisters and Sam run the place. They are all from Chicago. They have incredible Italian Beef, Italian Sausage, and Gyros. They have a killer burger and better than the average fries. They offer a host of tasty appetizers. There is a special everyday. It is a full service bar with over two dozen beers and about five on tap. This is a must stop about 10 miles or so south of Lacrosse, Wisconsin on The Great River Highway (highway 35).Sam also cooks up breakfast every Sunday from 7:00 am to Noon. And last, but not least this is a friendly place. Locals love and if approached will share the areas history, sight seeing tips, etc. The Cheryl, Sam, Meg, and Mary are always have their Midwestern charm turned on. read more

Well, where do I start...my husband and I are from Minneapolis, MN and decided to take a ride to Iowa on our Harley. It was a gorgeous day. Stop a few places along the way. On our way home we swung into Thirsty Turtle for a drink. That's it. Nice place. Friendly people. As the bartender was closing out our tab, he made an error. He said oops. Clear it out, so he said and re wrung it. The total was $7.50. We left a $1.50 tip which would have equaled $9.00. So on our way we went. Low and behold. I checked our checking account and Thirsty Turtle not only charged us once for $9.00 but another tab for $15.00. So, let me just say this was about a month ago and we have been in contact with the bartenders every other day and the owner finally called us back saying that the credit card company was suppose to credit us. Still nothing. So in the mean time the owner said that she would send us a check instead just to get us to stop calling. Well, no check after a week. So here we are again, calling. This time, she said the credit card company has credited our card and that we will be seeing a credit within 24/48 hours. Yeah, i will believe it when I see it. So, to make a long story short, always double check your accounts. Everyone makes mistakes. I just wish the owner would admit to it. Will let you know if we actually get paid. read more
