One day I went down to Hoy's and bought 20 bricks, the next day I bought 30 bricks, the price was $.99 each. Today two days later I go down to Hoy's and try to buy 20 more bricks, they want to charge me three dollars a brick. They put the SKU in, it looked like the same skew the old skewer that was on the pile of bricks. Either they raise their prices or it was on sale, but the guy there didn't know . I don't know but I didn't buy any bricks because $60 for 20 bricks is crazy. I can go up to Home Depot and back and still save about $30.00, or a little more. cost me a lot less to go to Home Depot so that's where I'm going. Home depot only charges . 78 cents , is the regular price. While I'm up there probably go a bit lots of other stuff too. read more

I'm done with this store. The young blonde cashier seemed to get a kick out of my frustration - twice in two days. First, when my purchase shocked me because it was way pricier than expected (little did I know it was due to the new hire retrieving a PVC pipe that was a quarter inch too big unti I got home.) She didn't bother questioning why the fittings I was purchasing along with the pvc pipe would only fit a 1/4" smaller pipe. Secondly, when I tried to return the wrong pipe, which was the new hires who seemed like a fish out of water while assisting me was who was at fault, she smugly told me it was non-refundable. The manager minimized my distress, despite my explanation that this week marked a difficult anniversary, having witnessed three deaths a year prior. So any added stress was not what I needed. He minimized my emotions because "his Dad is dead too." This man was significantly older than me. He then even tried to claim that 1 1/4" PVC pipe does not exist, he later corrected himself. Lastly, the new hire that sold me the wrong sized pvc pipe, had the audacity to lie right in front of me until I proved him wrong. This week, I've made significant purchases at that store. Although two staff members during previous trip there that week were friendly, the manager's approach was disappointing. He belittled me and seems to abandon new employees without proper training, leaving them unprepared to assist customers. Furthermore, the cashier's smirk added to my discomfort, ensuring I will not shop there again. They eventually admitted I was in the right & exchanged the pvc pipe, but that didn't make up for how terribly they treated me throughout the whole ordeal, and no apology was ever offered. read more

Ever since the new owners took over it has gone down hill. The shelves are way to empty . Every time I have a project and need supplys if I need 3 things they only have 2, they carry the other that i need just not in inventory so I have to go somewhere else. So I just go somewhere else so only need to go to 1 store. read more

My home office needed to be painted because the old color was too glossy to act as a background for Zoom meetings. The woman who helped me was very kind and fun, but she did not explain sheens of paint well at all. She immediately told me to get eggshell, saying it would be different and better. Well, the room is painted, and it is certainly not better. It is same. I called the store to ask what could be done, but they simply told me to spend another $80 on a gallon of paint and paint over it. I was frustrated and said I purchased it at the specific suggestion of a staff member. They did not care. The staff apparently needs to listen so they know what a customer is asking for--and then to advise customers accordingly so the people doesn't suffer an expensive loss. Stepping inside to grab an item while transiting thru Sweet Hole, I felt as if I'd entered the twilight zone. Nobody inside was wearing a mask--no patrons and no employees. I did not want to catch COVID for a can of WD-40, so I left and spent my money elsewhere. read more

I had called last night to ask if they had a Miller 6 cubic foot wheelbarrow in stock. I spoke to Carla who told me they had one in stock and it was less expensive than I thought. I planned to drive the hour to the store in the morning to pick one up and enjoy a donut with my boys at Sugar Vibes. Luckily, my wife asked why it was so much less than the store where I originally found it. I looked online and figured out she had given me the price for the 5 cu. ft. model instead. I called this morning to find out if they had a 6 cu. ft. wheelbarrow in stock and Carla answered the phone, again. When I asked about a 6 instead of the 5, her comment was, "didn't you already call last night?". She then told me to check online to see if I can buy it there. Their website wasn't very helpful so I called back. Carla answered again. She asked me for an item number which I located (I think) online and gave to her. She told me they had two different systems and she didn't find that number anywhere. She offered no further assistance and was rushing to get off the phone while making excuses that the cashiers answer the phones and she didn't have time to help me. As a customer of this store, I no longer feel welcomed or comfortable calling to check stock. I have acreage, a home and several outbuildings that I continuously work on and upkeep and will be taking my business elsewhere. What has happened to people who care? I'll still buy a USA made Miller wheelbarrow, but not from these folks. read more

Here in town for the Oregon jamboree. My camp stove broke. Wondered if they're was a hardware/multipurpose store near by. Hoy's has a little bit of everything like I hoped. Have a store similar back home I have always counted on. They had just what I need to get me going again. Prices weren't outrageous. I'm sure you can save a couple bucks at a big box store or Amazon, but I am willing to pay a little extra to support a store that appears to be locally owned and had exactly what I needed without going all over the place. Dropped my chainsaw off in October. Picked it up 30 days ago in a Box of nothing but parts still having to pay the initial inspection fee. Here it is a month later and they call me and let me know that they gave me the wrong chain saw . That the chainsaw actually belongs to Oregon Department of Transportation. So this means they've had and not realized it was gone organ department transportation's chainsaw for over 30 days, And they let me know that if I don't immediately bring the saw and they will be calling the police. Been running chainsaws my whole life, never seen a saw shop that ran worse than the one that does their. The hardware store is nice, the management could use some training but the staff is at least on the cashier level kind. read more

Moved to the area last year. Spend most of my time gardening. Last year & this year I've purchased several plants that were competitively priced (far less than Home Depot or Lowe's), and they are healthy. I also like that I can back right up to mulch in the yard & I always get a really friendly employee to help me load. Then I go to the main building to purchase plants and soil - it's a bit challenging to push a cart full of soil & plants through the manual doors & around corners to the register, but no big deal. The quality of plants, competitive pricing on mulch & soil, as well as the friendliness of employees makes this my go-to place. read more

I do not know why I bother stopping by. I have needed supplies for various projects and the last four times I've stopped at Hoy's they do not have what I need. I needed five posts, they only had two, I stopped earlier for one post, they did not have any. I come by to get a circuit breaker, they are out of the type I need. This place is nice to have from time to time, but painful to go there. I would rather drive to walmart most the time rather then pay the 4 times mark up other stores don't have. I can't wait for bimart to be opened in sweet home because it will force hoys to be competitive on their prices. The workers act like they are above the shoppers in the store. We asked for help and recommendations for a heavy duty gas trimmer for use on blackberries. We purchased the trimmer they recommended. My husband used the tool for an half an hour and came to the conclusion that it was not up for the job. We went back to the store to purchase a blade for the trimmer in hopes the blade would do the trick. They did not stock the blade. We shared that the trimmer we had just purchased did not work as recommended. They were and are unwilling to let us return it and let us purchase a more expensive model. I am no longer interested in supporting our local hardware store because I know that if we had made the trip to Albany. either Home Depot or Lowes would have respected the customer. They would have most likely given us better advise. I believe in supporting your local merchants but not this one! read more

I find what I am looking for and the staff are helpful and cheerful. Now they have an expanded service with the new building to the East that has even more items; lumber and building materials. It has really helped me accomplish my projects in a much better fashion - and quicker too. It helps keep my Wife happy as I can work on even more items on my Honey-do list. read more
