April and May were eventful times for us because of Mother's Day, our 15th wedding anniversary…read more(YIKES), and our son turning 1-year old. Also, both of us got fully vaccinated from COVID-19. It was a good a time as any to book a local photographer to help capture some memories via family photos. I did rely on Yelp to do research on a few places. Many baby photographers only accept newborns. They're able to use all sorts of cute props and arrange the baby in the cutest poses. Newborns are easier to sedate and often have their eyes closed. For a 1-year old, it can get trickier since they are a lot more active and easily distracted or irritable. Other photographers also charge you based on the number of photos - say 8, 10, or 15 and then surcharges for more. I finally decided on Ricky Wong's (W Photography) since his prices were reasonable and we got to keep all the photos from a 45-minute session. He suggested we do an outdoor shoot at nearby Dublin Heritage Park and Museum. That park has lots of historical buildings and provides a rustic background for photos. We actually had to reschedule the shoot the first time since the weather all of a sudden got windy and the baby was upset - probably too late in the day and hangry. We finally managed to complete the shoot the second time, earlier in the day with better weather and a more cooperative baby. We managed to get over 50 images after 2-weeks processing. Most of the time, our son was able to look in direction of the camera, though I wish he smiled more. I recommend W Photography for your general photography needs. Although they don't necessarily specialize in baby photos, they did an excellent job with lighting and selection of poses and backdrops. Our son managed to make it through most of the shoot and got slightly irritable only at the end. Do bring your own toys and noisemakers for distractions if you plan on a family outdoor shoot with a toddler!

Where do I start?…read more Karen is such a hidden jewel of a photographer. Our pastor/officiant recommended her after previously working with her on another project. From the onset, she was extremely responsive and communicative in both texts and over the phone. Karen worked with us on our "shotgun wedding", which was a daunting three-part series: (1) an outdoor wedding on a point along San Francisco / San Pablo Bay (with fog and wind compounding fast-changing temperatures and lighting conditions); (2) an indoor lunch reception with lots of moving parts in a relatively packed space (with poor lighting and limited angles); (3) back outdoors again, but this time, on the range with gunfire surrounding her while she's handling the camera. We also didn't keep the pressure off before the wedding: my best friend and "Man of Honor" is a professional photographer as well... he purposely asked to NOT photograph the wedding as he wanted to participate and be part of it, so Karen had to deal with me as a process engineer (nearly everything was metered out, with timed intervals down to the minute) and Mark with his technical background performing assessments. Armed with a four-page laundry list of shots and a Pinterest account as our Image Board, we shared the shots that were "absolute musts" and planned a solid 5-6 hour day. Karen delivered! She captured every shot we asked for. She also captured the playfulness, the solemnity, the posed portraits, and the candid interactions between my husband, my best friends, and our guests. Though the wedding was on Friday last week, we received the photos this evening (a Monday, three days later) and just spent the last hour grinning and laughing at the wonderful photos.
