The receptionist, who I guess happen to be his wife according to a few posts, is extremely unprofessional, rude, has a short temper, and is not afraid to start yelling at you. Their priority is money, not about patients' health or well being. When I attempted to ask her about getting an appointment and the insurance. At my first mention of Medicare, she immediately started yelling "No Medicare! Medicare people no pay! Bad people!" before I can say anything else, she hung up on me. I attempted to call back and explain, and again she started yelling at me through the phone to stop calling. If you're trying to see Dr Hsu for some neurological issue, I can almost guarantee you that trying to talk to receptionist will give you some neurological problems. Please save yourself from being verbally attacked and abused and go see another neurologist. read more

Reception is very strange, they don't have voicemail, the woman that works there refuses to take messages, doesn't care what you need. My grandad can't get his refill and they won't tell me why or what he's gotta do to get the refill. Enjoy your seizures, I guess! My grandad likes the doctor but doctors set the tone for their office so not clear whether Dr Hsu likes how poorly run his clinic is or doesn't care. Dr. Hsu is an excellent neurology doctor with a warm, friendly bedside manner. I've been suffering from migraines for many years, and he provided excellent diagnostic analysis combined with effective treatment which has muted my migraine attacks significantly. Additionally, the office team is extremely efficient and responsive - their entire operation is very impressive. I recommend him wholeheartedly if you desire an extremely professional, expert perspective combined with a caring and understanding manner regarding migraines or other neurological concerns. read more

Even 1 star is wasting!!! Dr. Hsu was good but lady in the front was really BAD. I normally don't review but need to do it this time. I got a call from collection company and I was really surprise by that. I went to see Dr. Hsu beginning of march and she send me a email that I have balance of $20some dollars even I paid co-pay of $20 so I told her to send me a proper invoice bill how much was insurance paid and what was bill about than she send me a just another email week later that I have to pay late fee of $10 something. Still "NO invoice". And I got a call from collection. Even collection company lady was surprise too. Good Doctor but ruined reputation by the front lady :( read more

Dr. Hsu is great. I only saw him one time for a neurological exam, but he was very thorough, and did not rush me. I can tell that he genuinely cares about people. He was not concerned with getting me to come back for future visits just so he could get more money. He is very knowledgeable, re-assuring, but very honest. He was straightforward about what I could expect from a brain scan, gave me another option and told me in advance how expensive that would be. He didn't tell me exactly what I wanted to hear, but I came out of the session feeling a lot better about myself, and saved a lot of money! The comment regarding the lady on the phone is partly true. She does come across as rude over the phone, but after meeting her in person, I found her to be very kind and loyal. Apparently, they have had problems with patients not wanting to pay, or being very difficult about payments. So she is basically screening the candidates to make sure it's clear how much money they will need to pay. Granted, she could use a different approach. But now I understand why she does it. This should not take anything away from Doctor Hsu's abilities or effectiveness. Once you meet him, you will be very impressed. read more

Dr. Hsu is a very nice man. Not one of the most knowledgable Neurologists in the area, but not the worst either. This review is mostly for his office manager who is doing a disservice to his practice. She tries to block any attempts to reach Dr. Hsu, so if you have a question or concern, don't expect an answer and don't expect to hear back from Dr. Hsu. Most medical practices allow their providers to be much more accessible these days, either by phone or email (usually within hours). That's just better care. Unfortunately, Dr Hsu's practice is far behind the times. I do believe that he does his best for you. My family member is now seeing another Neurologist with whom they are very happy. read more

Dr. Hsu was referred to me by two separate doctors. I saw him several times for an injury and he conducted an EMG. He was very kind, funny, and put me at ease. Extremely knowledgeable and patient with answering every question I had. The front desk receptionist (I feel awful having forgotten her name) was nothing but a sweetheart to me. We had a pleasant conversation every time I went in there- she is very personable and I never felt like "just a number" to her. I found the whole process to be laid out very clearly, with no problems. I feel badly that people have been insulting this practice. I would recommend both individuals who make up this practice to anyone looking for a reputable, experienced neurologist with a capable, friendly reception setup. read more

I absolutely would not recommend this doctor, and let me tell you why. My husband was admitted to the hospital for a non-COVID related issue in March 2020. The issue for which he was admitted to the hospital has a known 5% death rate. Dr. Hsu told the hospitalist to wait until my husband's COVID test was back to treat him. Note that failure to treat can lead to paralysis and even death - time to treatment is the most critical aspect of this disease. When I questioned this course of action, specifically asking if the risks of treatment for this KNOWN issue outweighed the risks of waiting to treat, the doctors could not answer me. Guess what - 10 minutes after I asked that question, they informed me they would go ahead and treat my husband. I am not a doctor, but can you imagine - if I had not asked the question?? My husband could have been paralyzed, or worse, died. But then, we leave the hospital and Dr. Hsu is an out-of-network doctor. Instead of sending a bill like the rest of the providers and giving us 30 days to pay, his admin sends us a nastygram, saying we must pay within 5 days otherwise they will send to collections! What the heck - we had not even received the Explanation of Benefits from insurance yet. This is not only unheard of, it's completely unprofessional. Even the insurance provider was appalled. We informed Dr. Hsu's office, the claim was under appeal and they told us completely false information, stating that th insurance company would pay us directly, and we had to pay Dr. Hsu now out of the alleged payment that would come to us at a later period (insurance said that is absolutely not the case). They continued to threaten us with collections, to which I responded telling them our claim was under appeal and if they could speed this up with insurance, we were all for it! Fast forward a few weeks (anthem said they would take 30 days to resolve the appeal), and we get a collections notice from this crazy office. how ridiculous! we are now fighting this tooth and nail, but I would never, ever go to them. unprofessional both in treatment and in billing. read more

I saw Dr. Hsu for more than a year. He is a good doctor and is very patient and very thorough. He doesn't rush you and always try to explain everything to you and answer your questions very well. I agreed to other reviewers that he provided detailed and excellent diagnostic analysis about your issue. He is very friendly and he has a very good sense of humor :-) The front desk lady (secretory) is very nice and friendly too. She is very professional doing her jobs. Even though she is always very busy, she always tries her best to help the patients. Some reviewers from yelp gave her very bad reviews because they didn't understand her works. PLEASE DO NOT VISIT THIS PRACTICE! I have been subjected to discrimination by both the doctor and his receptionist on multiple interactions with them and it has caused me undue stress. It is an unprofessional practice with substandard quality of care. I am always hesitant to write Yelp complaints - but this is a serious matter. It is a medical practice affecting the lives and well-being of others. We put our faith in these specialists. Another office where I called for a friend - the office person more formal - said "Doctor's office" and then did not seem to understand when I asked for who they use as a neurosurgeon. She seemed to not understand my request and then repeated my question in a strange way. I am not a patient person with even small incompetencies at medical offices. My husband had been having recurring imbalance, falling, some confusion. We had seen neurologists in North Carolina, with no success, or meaningful diagnosis. We returned to CA and our primary care physician and every nurse I know recommended Dr. Hsu. Dr. Hsu performed a comprehensive examination and a detailed medical history. He gave us the diagnosis in his office, but said it had to be confirmed via MRI. He arranged for it promptly, advised us that if the diagnosis was correct we would need to select a neurosurgeon, directed us to two excellent surgeons. I have been Dr. Hsu's patient since 2006. Dr. Hsu is extremely knowledgeable, professional, and caring neurologist. Dr. Hsu not only gives precise diagnosis, provides the best treatment, but also answers all my questions/concerns with details. I am very grateful that with Dr. Hsu's early diagnosis, I am able to receive the treatment early enough for a serious condition. A few year ago, Dr. Hsu also saw my family member with critical condition in the hospital, I never forget Dr. Hsu is very professional and passionate with the patient and the family. I was referred to Dr. Hsu by my GP and have been seeing him for several years. He's always very friendly and addresses all of my questions very forthrightly. It took several tries to get a medication that worked for me without bad side effects, and with every try he told me the upsides and downsides of the medication we were trying. His attitude was that there were several possibilities, and we'd keep trying different ones until we got it right. He listened to my feedback and worked with me like we were a team solving a problem, not like he is some god with all the answers. His receptionist is a doll. This doctor's practice has no interest in your well being. Their only interest is in money. My primary physician referred me to him. When I called for an appointment, the receptionist who is well known in these reviews for being obnoxious gathered personal information about me. As I have a high deductible Blue Shield PPO and am self employed, she immediately said that the Doctor would not see me. Do not use this office. I was sent for an EMG by my doctor, with no time for a consultation. The lady at the front desk said normally we do two appointments, one for consultation and one for the test. I said I don't need a consultation just the test as my doctor requested. The doctor proceeded with the test, no consultation. I just got my EOB from insurance company and they charged me for a consultation and the test. I will be reporting them to the insurance agency and medical board as I do not think he performed the services of a consultation. I will never go there again, or recommend them to anyone I know. I asked to pay when I was in the office and the lady in the front office was so scattered, that she asked if I could wait for insurance, perhaps it was because she was going to try and pull one over on me with incorrect billing of services. ***BEWARE OF THIS OFFICE*** read more

I didn't even get a chance to find out if doctor Hsu is good. My inury is car accident related. She has problem listening. She just talk, and interupt me all the time. She said they don't accept Lawyer lien which is commen for car accident related patients. Ok, I will go through my insurance. Then all she talked about was how much I need to pay after the amount my healthy insurance's portion. When we talked about my acupuncturist's previous payment, she was asking how much my acpuncturist charge. I told her without even thinking. Then guess what she said," oh she chargs more than a general doctor." Lame, that is non of her business. My acupuncturist is the best who fixed my neck pain others couldn't, and my acupuncturist provides so much better care than all the general doctors I have seen in my whole life. How dare her using her unprofessional tone judge my acupuncturist like that. One work, lame. Her "professionism" disencouraged me of going to the office. If Doctor Hsu is really good, then it is too bad. He needs to find someone listens on the phone, and not so focused on $$$$. At least someone sounds professional. What I'm going to explain now is shameful and don't think any doctor can do the same. Yesterday I called his office to set an appointment because my doctor referred me to him. The secretory asked some details as well as my insurance number. I explained that my case is pending in united states and i just arrived last june and according to my lawyer I can ask for social security number end of January so I don't have insurance. I'll pay cash also I have us bank debit card. The secretary started explaining people who pays cash, always call later ask many questions to avoid paying for another visit. I've tried to be possitive, however she insulted me, but I explained it's already 5 weeks I'm very sick. Another two doctors told me I have pseudotumor. I paid till now around 5000$ for mri, all different tests and it's just the last consultation. She told she will call me back. She called and told sorry it's doctor policy not to visit any patient without insurance. Judging this doctor is all yours now if he's a good doctor or just a selfish person thinking of his comfort? I booked an appointment with another neorologyst. I'm seeing 4 doctors now at the same time and when they heard the story, just looked at me with open month even one of them feel ashamed.
