I ordered a simple breakfast, 3 eggs over medium, crispy hash browns, (please don't make them blonde, I want brown hash browns, ) extra bacon. The waitress was good, however, told me to pay for my food and to get my coffee next door at the burrito place. I thought it strange, but complied. I came back, sat in a booth, and waited. She brought my order in to go packaging. I told her that I was dining in. She went back, plated the food and brought it out. The eggs were over hard, and the hash browns were blonde. When I caught her attention, (there was only one other person in the place,) I explained what I ordered. A few minutes later, she brought me my eggs, they were cooked correctly. I asked about the hash browns, she brought them out and they were still blonde. She asked if they were done enough, or if she should take them back. I asked her to take them back. They came out brown this time. I spoke with her about it not being her fault, and asked about the cook, and she told me they were talking to someone and not paying attention. I hope I reassured her that her service wasn't the issue. So, I conclud the cook is busy on the phone or talking to someone compromising the quality of the food. I would have chose the buffet for the salad, but they didn't have blue cheese dressing. The cook, NOT the wait service, is why my rating is so low. read more

My latest visit was disappointing. I stopped by for a meal on a Saturday morning. I arrived around 1030. One sign offered a steak and eggs special. Another announced the lunch/dinner buffet, starting at 11am. Since I didn't want to wait for a half hour to eat, I decided on the steak and eggs special. I wandered to a booth by a window. I sat there for over 10 minutes, waiting for someone to notice me and take my order. Finally, a gal arrived and I told her of my selection. About 10 minutes later, my drink arrived. Just before 11am, my meal arrived. I am by no means a slow eater, especially when my truck's electronic tether only allows for 14 hours to do everything in my work day. By the time I was finished eating, I had already been 'off the clock' for almost 45 minutes. Next came the wait time for my meal check. Wait, push the dirty dishes to the side, wait some more, hope someone notices me. Finally, the bill arrived and I was able to leave. At a quarter to 12 noon, nothing had been set up for the buffet. I'm glad I didn't wait for it. Lots of wasted time today. I'll probably just go to a different Iron Skillet/Country Pride restaurant next time. read more

They claim to be the oldest truck stop restaurant on the interstate or something... Maybe they could find the original workers if they are still around... They would be much better than these clowns that they have working here... When I walked into the restaurant no one was there to even greet me... I finally got seated and it took quite a while for the waitress to come by and she really wasn't all that friendly... I ended up ordering a basic breakfast.. . After about a half hour and still no food I gave up and walked out... I also talked with a trucker outside who said he had a similar experience... Do us all a favor, fire everyone and start over, or just shut the place down altogether. read more

T-bone steak. I repeat: T-bone steak. On a buffet no less! And, less than $20 for the buffet and drink! The place bills itself as the very first truck stop restaurant off an interstate. Since 1956, I believe it says on the sign. The decor matches that era. The buffet doesn't have the largest array of items. But, what it lacks in quantity, it more than makes up for in quality. A friend recommended this place to me with nothing but positive things to say. I went with 3 other people. We were set there for over an hour waiting for our meal. Our server forgot to ring half of it in so it took even longer. One friend i ate with had an onion allergy so she mentioned it while ordering. She has to pick onions out of her food. Another friend and I most likely got food poisoning seeing as we both can barely leave the toilet. Ridiculous pricing as well! read more

According to the menu, the very first truck stop constructed on the new interstate highway system 57 years ago. Solid comfort food. We had the buffet since they had shrimp on the buffet for .50 more than the shrimp dinner. Great home made mashed potatoes. read more

being locals, we have eaten here often. tonight we ordered fried fish with French fries and coleslaw. when the meal arrived it was the fish and nothing else. No silverware. over 5 minutes later, the coleslaw arrived. still no silverware. silverware finally shows up. After we have finished the fish, the fries finally show up and we ask for the check. We were charged $9.00 for fries that were to be included with our meal. Tried questioning, who I thought was a manager, about the pricing and how the whole experience played out. I really got the feeling she could care less. She couldn't have cared less or she would have tried to make it right other than just removing the charge that shouldn't have been on the bill in the first place. Over $35 dollars for fish and our drinks. we tried the coleslaw and it wasn't that good and the wife only ate a few fries as I was finished with my meal once the fish was off my plate.
