We saw far more than we would have had we been doing this on our own (and would not have made it to Timberline Lodge as we are not accustomed to driving on snow). Being that it was during the week and not during the peak season, it was not very crowded. Being a private tour, there was greater flexibility and efficiency. And then there was our guide, John, who raised the quality of the tour experience to a level far exceeding our highest expectations. John is very friendly and personable, incredibly knowledgeable of the history of the area, and truly passionate about what he does. We could not have asked for a better touring experience. The next time that we are in Portland, we shall do another of their private tours and hopefully be John's guest once again. read more

I'm on my last week here in Portland, and would be embarrassed to leave without getting the tourist highlights. So, car-less, I succumbed to booking a "tour". BEST DECISION OF THE WEEK! Why drive yourself to Multnomah Falls ( still closed due to the carelessness and bravado of a 15 year old playing with fireworks in the forest) and miss half the views when you can book a $60 1/2 day tour with "door-to-door" pick up from your hotel? The guide, John was prompt and the vehicle clean and ready. Overcast or not, the show goes on. We stopped by several other downtown hotels, then headed on our way. JOHN was a wealth of local knowledge and sprinkled in little-known eco and geological facts without ANY hint of condescension. He was fun and very knowledgeable, taking time to be a roving personal photographer. All along the way, John pointed out numerous seasonal and year round waterfalls, spending the appropriate amount of time at each stop. TIP: Take a few dollars for the gift shop and outdoor snack stand where you can pick up a warming cup of coffee or sweet treat. read more

First time to Portland and after spending a couple days exploring the city on our own, we decided to book the day tour to Multnomah Falls & Mt Hood. John was our tour guide & picked us up on time. We were in a comfortable Mercedes van with 8 others. Along the ride there were stops for sightseeing and restroom breaks. John was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We learned soo much on the trip. In addition to Multnomah Falls & Mt Hood we stopped at a few other look outs, waterfalls, the dam to see the wild salmon and Timberline Lodge. We stopped in a cute little town at Hood River for lunch where we got an hour to ourselves and were able to have lunch where we pleased. Well worth the money & I would do it again! John was the best, made sure we were comfortable and gave recommendations and facts. Highly recommend!!! read more

My husband and I booked the Portland City & Waterfall combo tour. We absolutely loved it. It was a full day and we enjoyed every bit of it. John, our tour guide was fantastic. He was very informative, had great personality and seemed to be very passionate about what he does. For the City Tour it was great hearing all the history, and for the waterfalls it was fantastic seeing the different ones they have. We went into this not sure what to expect, and now we definitely recommend seeing these tours. read more

Oh My! Some of the reviews on Yelp for this company are dismal! I'm really very surprised because I absolutely loved the 8hr combination Portland City & Multnomah Falls Tour for $105.00 Take it from a girl who's big on travel and reviews that besides Yelp, of course, check out some of the praises and compliments this company receives on Viator and their actual website. Looks to me that Yelp isn't their strongest form of social presence. On to the important stuff - the tour! I was in Portland with my husband for 4 days - he on business, and I just tag along I've never been to Portland and I really had ONE DAY to make it count. I found this hefty tour on Viator, and though the price is a little daunting, at the end of the tour, I felt like I really gotta a whole lot more bang for my buck. I've done Grayline - a lot, but I read that this tour really had a "local's POV" which I appreciated. The 14 seater Sprinter (think if a Van and a Mini-Bus had a Baby, the vehicle would look like that) picked me up in front of the Westin Portland and right away I was so amused with my tour guide's "Talk Show Host" voice. LOL he gave a little bio on himself letting the group know he's been in Portland since the 80's, so we could be rest assured of his knowledge. I've never been so fascinated on a tour like I was on this one, he knew the known tourist book info. In addition, he also had a lot of insider knowledge, which yes, I googled a bit while on the tour, and yep - our guide was dead on - AND honest if he didn't have an answer to any of our dozens of questions. It was such a breathe of fresh hair to not feel herded like on other tours, I learned that Hub Travel tries to keep tour numbers under 10-12 if possible to keep that personal experience. The tour starts from 9ish - 5:30ish (depending on pick ups and drop offs) and unlike bigger companies, our guide really tried to squeeze in MORE sites if time admitted. He read his group well, meaning he could sense which stops we liked more than others -AND- even though VooDoo donuts was not a scheduled stop on the itinerary, as we were passing it, he asked if we wanted to do a quick stop since we were all obviously "oooohing" and "aaaahing" and drooling I could tell if I went on this tour again, it would be a different dialogue BUT still an amazing experience. I can't rave about this group enough, only after I asked what the name of the tour company was, did I finally discover what a diamond in the rough this Viator find was. I enjoyed the waterfall tour, the tour guide was very knowledgeable about anything you'd like to know about Oregon. I would have like a little more hiking involved. The company had zero communication with me between booking and the event which made me nervous that they weren't going to show up. I definitely would have appreciated some type of follow up email.Eventually they did arrive at the hotel, and everything from then on was beautiful. read more

I booked an all day Portland tour through Viator and because they contract out, I've been told different tour agencies do the tours, depending on the city. We got Hub World. The tour I booked was $98/per person so I thought it'd be a proper tour bus, so imagine my surprise when a van with a cracked windshield (with no signage) came to pick me up. The guide was nice and prompt so I thought, 'hey, this will be a cozy tour. not scammy at all. or shoddy. maybe it'll be ok'. There was another couple who also booked the tour, and they were lovely. I half-wished the four of us had gotten in our own car and taken a tour without Hub World. The problems: Firstly, the guide had a very loose interpretation of facts on the tour. He tried to tell us that Portland has the 2nd largest Chinatown in the U.S. and the biggest shipping port in the U.S. On our way to Pittock Mansion, he reported that Pittock was responsible for mentoring Hearst and had basically invented syndicated newspapers. The tour was mostly him talking without letting us talk, and pointing at random things that no one in the van cared about, just to fill up time. Secondly, the Chinese Gardens (which he claimed were 2nd only to the gardens in China) was closed, so we stood in the rain and stared at the exterior. Lastly, and most importantly, the tour was utterly boring. Portland is an amazing city that I love visiting. It is vibrant and full of character and great for shopping, but the tour was so uninteresting that all 4 of us on the van canceled the last leg of the tour. Thank goodness I'd been to Portland before or I'd never come back based on this tour. Like I said, the guide was very nice, friendly and enthusiastic, but I'd still like a full refund please. read more

The Multnomah and Gorge Falls tour is spectacular. Our day-guide Jerry was personable, knowledgeable, and courteous. She was mindful of our exploration at each location and offered herself to take photos of us. Our visit to Portland feels complete and gratifying after this experience. I was in Portland for business and extended into Saturday to site see the city. I picked up the Experience Oregon Tours by Hub World Travel brochure in the downtown INFORMATION center. I called Experience Oregon Tours local number, got a rep (who was on a cell phone outdoors), and inquired about the Portland City Tour ($50 for 1/2 day tour; part walking, part bus) on Saturday. She indicated that minimum 3 were required for the tour--no problem. At this point, there was not a group for the 9am tour, nor the 2pm tour on Saturday BUT she would phone me back Friday evening or Saturday morning and confirm/deny the tour. I NEVER GOT A CALL BACK. Avoid this tour company. read more

I really enjoyed the tour and thought it was worth the $60 price. You see three falls including the famous Multnomah Falls. And the tour guide was super helpful and gave a great history lesson. I had only one day to take in the nature sights around Portland and given the distance this was a good choice. The tour starts early and you have enough time to do something else in the afternoon. read more

The tour was majestic! We were able to stop at major waterfalls and outlook points. Eddie, was the ultimate tour guide. Somehow myself and family of 3 had the van and Eddie all to ourselves. This tour was amazing! I paid $105 for the full 8hrs. Portland and Columbia Gorge Waterfalls. We drove through so many different downtown neighborhoods, had lunch at a cool little downtown market, drove through forest hills, pittock mansion, chinese gardens, waterfalls, and Crown point. Best part was that it was only me and 3 other people so the tour felt personal :) I expected to be on a huge bus with 30 other people and a recorded tour guide on headphones. Not my ideal but I figured I'd give it a shot. When I was picked up in an unmarked late model white van I thought it was weird but turns out my tour was myself and only 3 other people! SCORE!!! So great! We interacted, were able to ask questions and converse right with the tour guide. It felt like a personal tour of Portland. He would pull over at certain spots and tell us about the neighborhoods, history, recommendations on restaurants and cultural events. If you take this tour, ask for Sergio. The very worst tour ever. Please do not book this tour. It was booked through Viator but the local contact and tour guide was with Hub World Travel. The van's air conditioner was not working and it was 97 degrees in Portland!!! The guide was nice enough but despite our complaints about the heat, he made several stops where he got out of the van and left us enclosed in that death trap. He could have left the door open! There were four elderly people on the van who have less ability to regulate their body temperature. Aside from the heat, the tour was BORING!! Please do not waste your money like this. You won't be happy. read more
