This was a super fun experience. Once we got to the meet-up spot, there were so many people booked that night that we ended up breaking into four smaller groups! We walked all around downtown Portland and heard all kinds of crazy stories of Portlanders past. The shady, the downtrodden, those left in grief, and those who can never rest. Thank goodness we paid extra for the ghostmometer, or was it the ghost o meter?? Our tour guide was engaging, dramatic, and funny. In between stops, she shared her thoughts about Portland, Maine, and I told her the thoughts I had about Portland, Oregon, before visiting so many times, and we laughed and laughed. It was awful! You just walk the streets of Portland past homelessness and drug deals which was extremely scary for the kids I brought in the tour. You never go inside or experience anything ghost related. We paid extra for an emf reader and the guide never referred to it and nothing happened. All the tour guide did was talk about the history of Portland. This is a very disappointing waste of time and I want my money and the hour of my life back. read more

Awesome ghost tour experience! I'm an out-of-towner who is in Portland for a conference. One of the evening excursions for attendees was a ghost walking tour. There were two options for our group - 1) Private Tour Haunted Pub Crawl that was 2.5 hours and 2) Poltergeists and Psychopaths Private Tour that was 1 hour. We all met at the Harlow Hotel and then split up. I went on the 1 hour walking tour. Our guide was knowledgeable, interacted with the group, and was accommodating (always checking in with us, temperature/interest checking). He also pointed out some notable non-paranormal spots while we were trekking it through Old Town-Chinatown. I would recommend booking with Portland Ghosts if you are in the city and are interested in this type of activity. Also, one tip, BRING CASH TO TIP! Regrettably, it didn't dawn on me earlier and I wish I had more to give than I did at the end of our tour. read more

We booked this tour thinking it would go underground into the tunnels. It never did - it never even went into any of the buildings! I looked back on the website after the tour and its clear that the wording is very careful to not specify exactly what you're doing. Essentially we spent an hour and a half walking through the streets of downtown Portland with a few stops outside dark, closed up buildings or locked hotel lobbies to hear vague ghost stories. We took pictures of vacant windows and boarded off doors. Literally just standing on a sidewalk for 5 minutes listening to how this was "one of the most haunted places" the guide had ever been before walking on in silence for another 15 minutes . When I asked clarifying questions the guide wasn't able to provide more details. We stopped in 3 different parking lots to hear the same story about paved over sacred burial grounds and haunted trees. Now, I can say that the history we heard was correct, but it was extremely vague, and not particularly scary. The guide was very kind, just not able to give more info. Also they leave you on the sidewalk a 15 minute walk away from where the tour originally started. If you want someone to guide you through downtown while you learn some light history lessons, admire architecture, and figure out where to park this could be fun! But please know there are zero ghosts, tunnels, or haunted houses. All in all there's better ways to spend 26 bucks on 1.5 hours of cardio read more

My coworkers and I were in Portland for a conference. We saw this and we were super excited. I'll be honest, I was so distracted by the homeless and addicts that I couldn't focus on the stories! We walked around Portland hearing stories about death and ghosts. Our guide was excited while telling the story. You know he loved his job. We didn't go into any buildings, rather stood outside listening to stories as mentally ill homeless people shot up drugs and danced around the streets. It was very disappointing. read more

A ghost tour so bad it had ME saying "Boo!" Save your money, find another tour! My wife and I were visiting Portland to celebrate our anniversary. We love ghost tours and have done several around the US. So we signed up for the 'Portland Ghost: Poltergeist and Psychopaths' tour. We were very disappointed. This is certainly the worst tour we've participated in. To me, there are a few key ingredients in any good ghost tour: 1) interesting stories, 2) a capable storyteller, 3) access to buildings/sites you can't take advantage of on your own, and 4) a safe environment . 0/4 here. The stories weren't all that compelling and most came down to the guide's personal experiences in leading past tours ("One of our guests caught an odd image here."). The guide was prepared and pleasant. But she just wasn't a solid storyteller. Next, all of the tour consisted of walking the sidewalks and peeking in windows, which made the experience anything but special. Finally, the worst part of the tour is that it's just not a safe setting. I adore Portland and we visit there regularly. The City has suffered with the policies around the decriminalization of hard drug use and a great spike in houseless. It just so happens that the oldest part of Portland, Old Town, is the epicenter of these problems. As a result, most of the tour winds through folks suffering, openly using, passed out or sleeping on the sidewalks, etc. Obviously, this is not the tour company's doing. And being in a large group really helps. But it is problematic that the guide ended the tour about .5 miles from the starting spot (and our car), basically leaving everyone to disperse and find their own way back. My wife and I walked fast, nervously in the dark using our GPS. But we felt really, really unsafe. It made the lackluster tour even worse. Boo! I'd suggest booking a tour else-scare. read more

Was so excited to go on this tour with my family. It's in an extremely sketchy part of downtown Portland in a very "skid row"' type homeless area which would've been fine had the tour guide showed up. 11 people standing on a 4 way corner of a well established tent city. Most visiting from other states. After 10 minutes, I called the number they offer and it was just a recording stating they the "contact us" button at the bottom of their form. We filled it out and they responded very quickly. They offered to re-schedule the tour, but we requested a refund instead, which they said they are processing. read more

Went to Portland with my husband, and another couple. It was our first time visiting Portland, so I didn't know what to expect. Victoria the host, was prompt, and in a great mood. Her voice is loud enough to talk to a large crowd. Some of the spots definitely had a creepy and spooky vibe to it. It's a very fun for kids or younger teens. My only issue was as most of the other reviews pointed out. In some spots that we stopped, there were many homeless people. There were a few moments where I felt uncomfortable, but it's really just a few spots. Just be careful and on the lookout, and you should have yourself a great and spooky time! read more

My husband and I have gone on many ghost tours over the years, in various cities, and this was one of the worst. The tour guide did not seem prepared at all. (I can't recall her name, but she wore glasses and I think had curly dirty brown hair.) She suggested we download some ghost app that was total BS - kid stuff. All it did was say random words in a creepy voice, and she acted like it was legit in some way. She did not seem very familiar with the city's history and couldn't remember people's names while telling stories (these details are kinda her job!!). We did not get one single interesting, well-told story. She is a terrible storyteller, which is pretty much your JOB if you're a tour guide. She made weird jokes that were not professional and had nothing to do with the stories she was trying to tell. At the end of the tour, she suggested we visit the bar at the Benson hotel for a drink if we wanted to maybe catch a glimpse of their resident ghost - the bar was closed. So she lacks knowledge of the places on her tour stops. Sometimes after tours we'll ask the guide for recommendations since they are the expert for which spots to hit or avoid but, in this case, we didn't even think to do that since she seemed to not know the city too well. Does she even live here? Overall, we were very disappointed with this tour. We wish we had had Victoria! While staying at the Harlow Hotel we found out more interesting facts about the city during a conversation with her than during this paid ghost tour. You can tell Victoria really loves this city and does her research, asides from being very personable. Last night's tour guide seemed ill prepared and did not event bother to do her research to get people's names right during her stories. You all really need to vet these people you hire before you pay them to interact with visitors. read more

Our guide was Victoria and she was truly a GREAT history/story teller! She is why there's 4 stars. Why not 5 stars? We were not expecting all the distractions that downtown Portland brings, but should've known better. Clubs, loud people, individuals wandering who joined the tour without paying and asking us questions, the houseless asking us for money, etc. etc. It was a Saturday night. If you're aware of these things ahead of time, you'll be better prepared. We were never scared, just distracted. The experience overall, great! I am a born and raised Portland gal. The history we all learned was truly very cool. Our guide spoke loud enough we heard most of what she shared. She answered questions, shared a recent EVP, we rented an EMF (electromagnet fields) detector and it lit up several times, kinda cool. We didn't experience anything paranormal, or capture anything on film but it was still a very cool experience. We were a party of 6 and celebrated a birthday doing this tour. Visited Portland over the Memorial Day weekend and got to check out this tour. As a horror and ghost fanatic, I had a pleasant experience. Our tour guide (forgot her name, older female) was super great and knowledgeable. She definitely dressed the part which added to the experience. We learned about the different horror events that happened in Portland including the story behind Electric Lettuce and the Shanghai Tunnels. This tour was on foot which was pretty cool because we got to walk around the city at night and see what it's like. Overall, I would definitely recommend checking it out. read more

Please know what your getting into before you book a tour, just to save you the hassle. This tour does not go near the Shanghai Tunnels. You will be walking in the dark cold rain, inappropriately past houseless encampments. Our tour guide was late and wildly unprepared, we left the tour after the second stop. However, instead of refunding the cost right away, they wanted to reschedule or give us a tour "closer to home." Seriously?
