My in-laws love treating our family to Hubbard's when we are in town for a visit. It's a special treat on Sunday after attending morning service at their church. The place is a beauty - lovely vibe with old pianos (used to be a piano store). Has plenty of room in the main dining hall and in the back. Service is a perfect representation of southern hospitality! Lovely and warm staff. The food is decent but experienced a little bit of a miss on our recent visit. The buffet was closed due to private events so they plated the food for us. The soup was good (creamy Italian) but the ground beef patty was dry. Their fried okra is so special tho. My niece and I came here for breakfast. It's a local staple for dinner, but we were surprised to learn they have breakfast! I got a breakfast burrito + pepper, onion, and hashbrown (instead of a meat option) inside, with a side of fruit. My niece ordered the chicken and waffles. Everything was absolutely delicious, but the superstar was the Belgium waffle. It was lightly dusted with powdered sugar and topped with strawberries and blueberries. The waffles were the perfect amount of fluff, with an outer crisp.The flavor was so divine that the waffles did not need the syrup at all. Prices are reasonable. Service was good. Walked in, the server saw me And walked right past me. I walked around confused trying to figure out how seating worked and whether I should just seat myself. A man had to flag down the server (the same one that walked right past me) for her to help me. It was 10:30 am and she said breakfast was closed and they wouldn't reopen until 11 am. Found that odd because it says that nowhere on yelp and nowhere on their website and there were a number of people eating. It didn't feel like a welcoming environment, and if I was traveling through Oxford again I definitely wouldn't stop (I'd go to the place next door). read more

This restaurant contains many of my pet peeves: waiting many minutes to be greeted and seated, cold cornbread muffins served with cold, hard butter, a pimento cheese app that's basically a chilled block that's hard to chisel, a server forgetting to put your order in so you sit and watch your companion eat. Finally we were seated at 8:17, put in our drink order, then the waitress came back out to let us know the kitchen was closed. Giving them a 2 because their food as good. WOW!!! What a hidden gem. The restaurant looks fresh and elegant. The food is out of this world. We got a ribeye that was so tender and delicious you would think you were at a 5 star restaurant. The meatloaf was excellent and came with a cute container of gravy. There was live music that was soft enough to allow conversation but added to the elegant atmosphere. The price was reasonable and the dress code was very casual. Our waiter did a great job making sure we wanted for nothing. We can't wait to go back. read more

I thought it was just me but my husband also felt uncomfortable. The cheese grits my husband didn't even know what they were but he liked the taste but they don't taste like grits? It's very odd. The green beans were slimy which I don't think is good although the flavor was nice and the hush puppies were over cooked. Come to find out after asking friends it's very common to get poor service? Then after everything this is the dessert they serve. We hustled in before the Homefree show to get a bite of dinner! Even though we had reservations the place wasn't very full. They have a shortened menu the night of a concert as the Oxford Performing Arts Center is right next door, so that was kind of a bummer. What my wife and I wanted to order they didn't offer that night. The dining room is beautiful! It's an old piano store and the decor at Christmas was great! Such an interesting place! They have a huge bar so drinks are not an issue. The bathrooms are clean and the staff is very friendly. We lived the bread and olive oil they bring you to start. The food was very good and we enjoyed everything about this place. The reason for 4 stars and not 5 was the wait. We had a show to be at next door that started at 7. We got to the restaurant at 5:05pm. We ordered drinks then our meal at 5:20. We received our food at almost 6:30! The place was busy, but not packed. No reason it should take an hour to get food for 4 people. We were so concerned that we were going to be late to the concert that we ate fast not really getting to enjoy our meal. We'll come back and try again soon. Our server was very sweet and apologetic for the wait. Give it try! It is really good food! read more

We've visited 3 times, all with reservations. 1st issue was signage. We walked into the space next door, and were told by the group standing around that Hubbard's dining room was next door. There was no sign on the glass window or door. Sat in private room away from live music. Too loud. Antique chairs and tables were very rickety, which was scary. When we found a couple of chairs that were stable, they were hard and uncomfortable. I ordered fish and chips (grouper). Was told they were out of grouper but could fix catfish instead. Not a catfish fan, but ordered it because server said it was outstanding. It had a heavy cornmeal breading, which was very greasy. Two bites and I was done. Very good fries, BLT salad, Brussels sprouts, and asparagus. 2nd visit, our reservation got "lost." I had country meatloaf, no gravy, which was exceptionally good. The owner checked on us, which was nice. Mashed potatoes were passable. Brussels again were very good. Our bar drinks were not refilled in a timely manner and the wait staff was hit-or-miss. We may try again, maybe not. Our advice, dispense with the live music so you can hear dinner conversation, paint signage on front door and ask kitchen staff not to wipe their faces on the same cloth used to dry dishes. Very Poor in terms of ambience, food and service. Was told this was THE place to go in the area so canceled reservation somewhere else and greatly regretted it. The restaurant was not crowded but it was very, very warm. The service was EXTREMELY SLOW despite seeming to be more than enough waitstaff. I don't know what went on the kitchen. I literally had to walk to the back, cancel food and tell them I need to go. Also know they will charge you if you use a credit card. Trouble with food started when the bread was cold and the water tasted funny. Excuses were made and a different glass was made . Still tasted strange. I was told they'd bring me bottled water but then told they had none (recurring theme from running out of dessert less than an hour after opening to missing entrees and even basic wine). The salad was small but fresh. The hyped up main entree was very basic. Maybe in this small town, it's considered gourmet but chicken was flavorless although the mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables were alright. I'd never recommend or come here again. It's a fabulous restaurant with a great atmosphere and live music. Food price and quality, not so much! I ordered steak, chunks of fat, and chunks that should have been cut off before serving. It was also very tough with no flavor, even with the amount of fat! Not once did our waitress ask us how our food was or if it was cooked correctly; instead, she kept pushing us to the next course to get people in and out. I'd love to give an actual review of this place....however my online reservation was accepted AND confirmed from google. Unfortunately it did not exist when I drove the 40 minutes to go to this place. I was told by their staff that they do not accept online reservations and they keep requesting of the owner/manager to take this option off Google reservation request from what we were told when we arrived .....as someone who paid a babysitter, arranged time alone with my spouse and drove a long distance for a night out, I couldn't agree more!!! Oh by the way the place was empty but we were still told to "have a good night". Down to my last four states and this was state number 48. My husband had laid out the entire trip for maximum experience doing four states in five days (including travel days.) He had researched places to eat at each stop based on reviews, historical significance, and level of "touristy" (the less, the better). This place was pretty cool. An old music store turned restaurant in a historic building. We were in our element. The place had a real industrial chic feel to it with nods to its music store history throughout. For example, our table had once been the lid of a grand piano. The place was filled with locals celebrating anniversaries, birthdays, the fact that the weekend had arrived. I absolutely love this place! The atmosphere is so unique and inviting. I lucked out having the whole place to myself because the election was going on tonight. Sara was our waitress and she did a fantastic job. She was so kind and patient with us. I got the chicken piccata and fried okra which was awesome! They were both cooked perfectly. We had the fried pickles as an appetizer which I would probably skip next time. Cute place, but we went on Fathers Day for the buffet. There was 3 meats and a hand full of sides. The best thing they serves was the sausage and peppers. Most everything else had very little flavor. We came for Sunday brunch and it was a buffet. On the buffet, they had Fried Catfish nuggets, Lima beans, pinto beans and chicken margarita. The taste was wonderful. However, the presentation of the fish was sub-par. The catfish was cooked in either old grease or grease that doesn't hold high temps that is needed for catfish. They were packed. One negative was really bothered me. I had a party of three and a party of four came in after us. They preceded to seat the party that came after me first. Even after a member of that party told the host that my party was here first. Neither group had reservations. In town for an event, we stumbled across Hubbard's Off Main in 2019 but were unable to enjoy dinner as we didn't have a reservation and there was no seating for walk-ins on a busy Friday night. The restaurant, located in a former music store in a historic building, was beautiful and full of character so we vowed to return one day. Once we learned we would be returning to Anniston/Oxford this year, we immediately made two reservations - one for our hotel room and the other to secure dining service for two at Hubbard's Off Main. When we arrived, the restaurant was packed with a couple of large private parties so the reservation was definitely needed. I was initially concerned that service would be negatively impacted by an overworked kitchen and staff, but our experience was nothing less than fantastic. We were greeted warmly, seated promptly, and had drink orders taken immediately. Before we knew it we were enjoying a fresh sliced baguette straight from the oven and served with real butter. Our server, Bethany, was familiar the menu and answered my questions confidently. Orders placed, we enjoyed our bread and conversation in gorgeous surroundings. The building is more stunning inside than out and the decor on point and elegant without being overdone. My husband ordered the ribeye which arrived cooked exactly as he likes it and seasoned perfectly. He was gracious enough to share a bite with me and it was absolutely fantastic. I decided to try a local dish, the low-country chicken with Brussels sprouts. Now, I generally loathe Brussels sprouts and have only recently begun to try them prepared by trusted chefs and restaurants I frequent so this was a pretty decent food risk for me. They were amazing! The flavors combined in the low-country chicken dish melded smoothly and made for a delicious and unique plate. My biggest regret is not having room to sample anything from the dessert menu, but we were absolutely stuffed. What a wonderful experience at Hubbard's Off Main! If we are fortunate enough to return to Oxford next year, we will definitely be making a return visit for dinner. I can see why this locally owned fantastic place stays busy and has great reviews. My family was looking for some local flair for lunch on our way through town and found this place through Yelp. Nestled on a corner of the very small town of Oxford the food here was right on. We had the fried pickle appetizer which were made the CORRECT way! Sliced super duper thin coated in a cornmeal crust and deep fried with the crust in place. OMG so good! The rest was gobbled up by my family so fast I couldn't get photos on time! The shrimp Po'boy sandwich cooked perfectly and tasted wonderful that we all had a bite. The cheeseburger was a large healthy size and was very good. The halibut special with snap peas and herbed sauce was flavorful. The Greek salad with chicken was made of mixed greens and other ingredients were very fresh. Our waiter was very helpful and pleasant. He was great with the kids. I live in then south, I grew up in the south, my grandparents grew up in the south, so I consider myself a bit of a southern food connoisseur. The southern staples here are GREAT. Greens- great, okra- great, catfish- great. My wife's meatloaf was very good as were her mashed potatoes. Someone in the kitchen cares and knows what they're doing! My 4 instead of 5 star review comes from a couple of missed details. A stem in the greens, an okra top not sorted out before frying- just little stuff. The quality of the food is worth the issues and if we're ever passing through again, we'll stop by for sure!! read more
