They remade my wife's shrimp and grits and was better. My Low country chicken was a plain chicken breast with runny sauce and very bland. One drink each and our bill was $86 with tip. But the bar tender was good made a great one. Then we try to order meatloaf a staple here at 6:30 they are out. They open at 5 pm why or how did they sellout in 1.5 hrs.. 1 reprice is crab cakes good! Service slow at first. Picked up as night got on side salads came they were good homemade ranch dressing.mediocre meal and server forgot vinegar pepper sauce then after watch closely I see that our waiter was being overwhelmed by the lazier bar tender and waiters. Would have been nice if we could have had a chance to order food. We walked in and had to ask to be seated.. were given menus by a young woman and she never came back to table. We observed people coming in and being seated and their drink orders being taken before anyone ever came back to our table. The only reason the older lady came to the table was because we were looking at her. She asked for drink order and then a young man brought them out and quickly ran away. We sat there from 5:50-6:25 without anyone asking us what we wanted to order. We were a party of 2! A party of 8 came in and were seated immediately and orders and drinks taken. The only reason I even gave this a one star Is because the guy singing on stage was the ONLY reason we were trying to stay and give this place a shot. Exceptional, interesting and entertaining. Find this quaint locally owned gem 1-2 miles north of all the chain restaurants off I20 in the small town of Oxford. We were visiting from out of town and like always want to sample local fair. The food was exceptional, with a chef who is obviously trying to do interesting things with the dishes, and an owner who was kind enough to introduce herself and spend time checking on everyone in the place. We had a variety of dishes. For starters we had crab cakes and stuffed mushrooms. Both were very good. The crab cakes appeared to be cooked with a hint of sausage fat on the grill, everyone loved them. I had the gumbo for my main course, which was quite good with shredded pork and shrimp as the stars. The steak was excellent as were all the other dishes. The bread pudding for dessert was home made and everyone thought it was great. A piano playing singer was serenading the customers. He was good. Quite reasonable prices. Highly recommend. read more

While home visiting for the weekend, I took a friend and a couple family members here for dinner. Saw Hubbard's in my google search and decided to try them out since I had never heard of them before. Not going to lie, upon walking in we didn't think we'd be welcomed here or feel a since of comfort, but we were pleasantly surprised. Upon being seated, we were told it would be a 40 minute wait for our food because they had a few parties going on so we decided to just wait since we got their earlier than we originally planned anyway. It took a little longer than 40 minutes but the owner (I'm assuming she's the owner. I wish I had asked her name) came out and apologized, reassuring us our food was coming and offered us desserts for our wait. Soon after the food came. We ordered catfish, fried okra, fries, greens and chicken fingers. Everything was delicious and really filling. We enjoyed the live music as well. This was our first time eating here and I'm sure we will be back. The decor in this place is so cute and the hospitality was really good as well. Oh and the prices can't be beat for what you get! My wife and I ate here on Thursday night as we were passing through town. It was great. The food was all pretty well prepared and generously portioned. My hamburger steak was more than a little overcooked but with the gravy and onions on top, it was still edible although a little dry because it was so overcooked, but everything else was great. The pimento cheese app was quite good and was served with cherry tomatoes, olives, peppers, other things I wouldn't have thought to try on the pimento cheese but all worked well together. My wife had the low country chicken that was delicious. The salted caramel brownie that we split for dessert was also really good. The service was a little slow, not bad, but slow. It appeared that there were only 2 wait staff working the whole restaurant. We both agreed we'd go back in a heartbeat if we were passing through again, though. I love Hubbard's Off Main! I eat here 2 or more times monthly its so delicious. Lunch time is my favorite because the price and quality of food is well worth it. I am also certain that I dream about the shrimp and grits on a regular. I usually bring any family visiting in for a great meal. I know the food is prepared fresh and we enjoy the wait with a nice glass of wine. My family from NOLA loved Hubbard's so much that they booked them for a wedding months later. Went here for my birthday dinner. It took a minute to be seated, but the inside has plenty of classic decor. We all got bread after we placed our orders, the bread was very tiny, wished it could be bigger! I ordered a ribeye for dinner. The steak was cooked properly and tasted great! The mac and cheese was creamy, and the mashed potatoes was good too. I also tried some of the other dishes people with me ordered. The fish and chips was very good. And their pasta dish was good too.
