Hub's is the typical Greek fast food place thats good for a Saturday night dinner. It has a lot of seating, and is generally quiet inside. The menu is expansive (not expensive), so there is a lot to choose from. I got a skirt steak sandwich and my lovely wife got the chicken kabob with pita bread. My sandwich was good but on the small side for $19. It came with coleslaw which was room temperature. The fries were very good. Wife's chicken lacked flavor, which is strange at a Greek restaurant. I tasted it too. It didn't have that spicy lemon zing you usually get. The potatoes were also a little bland. Overall, service was great, ambiance was nice, but food (hers) was just fair. UGH - I hate to do this Hub's, but I'm breaking up with you. This used to be my favorite and my go-to for their lunch specials and gyros dinner - however, on the last few visits when I was in town, the lack of quality control and the portions you received either for dine-in or carry-out has just been unacceptable. You may be lucky if you even get 3-4 slices of gyros. Years ago, the amount of gyros were piled up a mile high - nowadays, they're just dried out, or they have the audacity to just give you the end scraps. One time, our order had gyros that were literally chopped up like diced onions - um, what?! The rice pilaf, which I loved as a side, always seem to have some undercooked rice and never piping hot - it's either cold or lukewarm. The price you pay for what you receive just doesn't match, and it's just super disappointing. The staff are friendly, and there's parking available in their private lot. We've been coming here for almost 50 years and it's always clean, bright, nice workers and good prices. Unfortunately tonight the bbq chicken was very dry and the chicken fingers just ok. My chicken kabobs were above average but were a little bit too peppery. Ample fries came with and were hot. They still cheap out on the Non-Heinz catchup.... A nice touch was the complimentary scoop of peach ice cream we were given upon completion of our meal. I love supporting a local business and hope the food is a bit better next visit! read more

She was quick to defend the delivery driver and didn't bother to defend a long time customer for years. Dear readers, and Hubs customers, this is what happened at my house. I am going to write it respectfully and the truth of what happened and occurred. Again, the manager wasn't here, and no I didn't pay, because I had a credit card and cash and the hubs delivery driver didn't have a terminal to take the credit card and my cash. So, this is not in anyway my fault. It is the restaurant's. How can you do delivery and not take a credit card and don't tell your customer it's cash only. Then, have your delivery driver to show up? And not have a terminal? Then, you tell your delivery driver to take the food all the way back? And expect me to buy and pay for it then? When it's very disrespectful to me, when he called you on the phone and put me on the line so that I could talk with you to come all the way there to pay for the food? I have bought here for years. You expect me to pay for cold food? No, I am not going to pay for something that you have your delivery driver to to bring all the way back and I tipped him too with $6.00 that he took it and left with it and the food? I should have drove right back there to get me $6.00 in change, that he took. Yeah, he took it and put it in his pocket. So tell me manager whose the one hungry for money here? And, your driver came all the way up the stairs to my door. Delivery drivers are never suppose to be at a customers door or at anyone's front door. They are suppose to stay downstairs and ring the doorbell. It doesn't matter whether or not that door downstairs is open. No one should enter. You ring the doorbell or phone call. Common sense. Your delivery driver didn't stay down the stairs. Repeat, they came to my door. They knocked and when I went to go and answer my front door. I didn't even know who it was so it could have been any random stranger at the door, and I am smart. I am not going to answer it, if I am here by myself. Delivery should have rang the door bell and stayed downstairs, or call me on the phone. You're trespassing. So, when and after a while, they finally did. I then went and opened the door. The situation was very uncomfortable for me because he was very close. I understand he is delivering the food. I told him that I had cash and a credit card to pay. He had nothing to take the credit card. I gave him $6.00 in change as a tip. He didn't have a terminal to pay or anything to take the payment of my credit card or my cash. Oh, and yeah, he asked me the question "Was my dad home?" And yes, I said, "no." You weren't here so you don't know. But he was very persistent in the money. Customers, he called the manager over the phone right in front of me and she was rude too and told him to take my drink and my food with him. I told her that I would come and drive up there and pay for the order. But she didn't care and still told him to take the food away. He said that he would get docked, because he came all the way. But, I apologized and told him that. He still was angry about it and left with the food. It is very hurtful the situation that happened and occurred. The manager just said, that they take things very seriously about my other post. But what she doesn't know is that I and so does my family and loved ones take things like this very seriously. There is just a certain measure, that people have to understand in the word respect and hospitality. And no, I don't care about being terminated from your restaurant. However, I want you to know that what happened should never have happened to me or anyone. You can say what you want about me, not being welcome or not coming back. But let me tell you something, you should learn to treat your customers better. Post whatever you want, but I spoke the truth, and I have spoken this time beautifully and respectfully. read more

My wife and I wanted barbecue chicken tonight. I didn't want to go to Dengeos because I'm tired of their small, pigeon-sized chicken pieces that are often undercooked, even when I ask for well-done. Instead, we tried Hubs tonight and were very impressed with the chicken. The breast was slightly dry, as my wife mentioned, but overall it was cooked as we requested. Since we asked for well-done, it normally tends to dry out, but we'll return to Hubs for their barbecue chicken, recommend Hubs for their barbecue chicken. We used to visit for their Gyros, which were also excellent, but a bad experience with the owner led us to stop going. That issue has now been resolved, and I've started dining there again. I feel this place has gone down hill since Covid!! The price for what you pay for isn't the same...the service has gone to sh1t! Ordered a gyro plate with an extra pita (which I was charged $1.10 plus tax & credit card fee) & chocolate chip cheesecake. When I got home I emptied the bag the only things that were in there was the gyro plate and the cheesecake. When I called to make them aware that the extra pita was missing they insisted that it was in the bag. When I unpacked everything and made sure there was nothing left in the bad I threw the bag away. They kept insisting that it was there and that I had thrown away the pita...the way I was talk to was demeaning and unprofessional!! A neighborhood staple serving decent food. The people working there were nice, and there seemed to be plenty of regulars that patronize the place. They even have newspapers for you to read while you wait or dine in. Not many places do that, old school vibes. I only ordered hot dogs and fries, so I wasn't looking for a transcendent dining experience. The hot dogs were solid Chicago style dogs, not the best, far from the worst. The fries were just fries. Good, but not worth what they charge. The fountain drink was good and cold, but again, too pricy. All in all, this place was ok. If the price point was a little more reasonable, this place might get a higher ranking. Hub's has been around forever, and I know that I definitely went there as a kid, though I don't actually remember eating there the way I remember other spots along the Dempster corridor. And maybe there's a reason for that. The food, for me at least, is really unremarkable. Very inexpensive, but unremarkable. I ordered a burger, fries, and a side of mushrooms, thinking they would be sautéed mushrooms. To my horror, the mushrooms came out and they were breaded and fried (and in my opinion, tasted awful). So definitely avoid that side of mushrooms unless you like fried mushrooms. The burger was meh. The fries were meh. The mushrooms left a bad taste in my mouth. Called spoke to manager on duty who I know was Bill, the son of the owner. I've bought Hubs for over 25 years and have never been met with such unprofessionalism in requesting a mistake be corrected. They want me to bring the "product" back all the way to Skokie. Even after I explained I live in Waukegan and offered to text a picture of the mix up. Wow, Hub's is celebrating its 43rd year and I believe their Lincoln Avenue location in Chicago is their second location. I'll be honest, it had been at least 10 years or more since I've been here so I have no idea what's taken so long. All I can say is that I'm glad to have come back and will make it a point to visit more often. It seems like one happy family behind the counter and the SNL skit (cheese burger, cheese burger, no coke - Pepsi) is just running in my head and that's so funny to me. The food here is my preferred cuisine, I just love a good burger (having lived off McDonalds for about 6 consecutive years) and that's what I had - the American burger. It was so good that I ate everything off my plate - yes it was a cheat day. I took a menu home so I'm planning my next trip, maybe a gyro or pastitsio (Greek lasagna) or hot dogs or a pizza puff for my next visit. One star is too good for Hubs. Hubs Skokie is awful. Went there with family and friends and ordered gyros plate. The "gyros" consisted of dry, burnt meat pieces, bland boiled rice and no fries. We ended up leaving the meals on the table and told the cashier for the cook/dishwasher to clear off the table. Will not return to Hubs. Pita Inn is down the street - will go there. read more

OK. So, I'm going to be honest. Pastichio (Greek lasagne) is my go to comfort food during this pandemic. It's delicious and I've had it at 1/2 of the restaurants that serve it. Hub's is GOOD. Very very good. For the price, you are getting a hearty delicious portion with potatoes, rice, a pita, and peas. I ate 1/3 in the restaurant and took the other 2/3 home. It's today's "hot lunch special" in the home office cafeteria. :-) The restaurant is open for outdoor and indoor dining. They have blocked off booths and tables so folks eating can eat yet maintain social distancing guidelines. It's also super clean. The owners and servers are super nice. Overlooked for a so long since I had assumed it had a typical Chicago grill menu. Of the two Hub's in Chicagoland, this in Skokie has more Greek specialties on the menu. Went with pastitsio (rice, potatoes, side of stewed peas, pita), spinach pie, and an order of dolmathes. They had lemonade and fruit punch in the fountain, so got the fruit punch which counts as a soda with refills. Generous portions, great homecooking taste, and the peas are perfect with the rice or pita. We dined in and Phase 4 of the pandemic had outside seating along with distanced seating inside. Food was served on actual plates and diningware. Peas did come in a plastic cup along with the tzatsiki. Got two waters which also came in recyclable plastic. Dining room seems recently redone - lots of parking in the lot. $1 surcharge on credit card transactions. read more
