We've been coming to Jason BBQ regularly for as long as we have lived in Park Ridge and that's now going on 12 years.  Note though that the Chinese BBQ stand has changed names and before 2021 it was previously known as Mei Mei BBQ.  This little BBQ stand is tucked away in a front corner of Richwell Market and has always offered a convenient, reasonably priced, and good quality alternative to trekking either over to Argyle Chinatown or to the main Chinatown.   I guess I never reviewed this particular business as I had long considered it just a part of Richwell Market, but it's its own business and most certainly deserves its own reviews and ratings. We've always enjoyed the tip-top delicious chicken, pork, and duck products from here.  Mrs. Tam is the youngish lady owner here, and don't fret, her English is quite good too!  They make their products right downstairs in the basement, and you might see a fresh batch of whatever being brought up.   Their prices naturally won't be quite as cheap as in a Chinatown, but the difference is very reasonable and you can consider it a convenience charge for not having to commute into the city.  Thumbs up and that thumb has been up going on 12 years+ now! read more

I love this market. I usually get my Chinese ingredients. This is just tried the baked Cha Sui baus. They come in pkgs of 3 for $5.75. It's a lot for mainly bread. Almost nothing inside. That's why the single star for this product. read more

Their duck is good for anywhere chicago standards. Like I mean their duck is really good for roast duck. Got a lot of flavor. Their chicken feet is pretty average at best though, which is why I give the 4*. Pay cash for no tax. Their char siu is pretty good as well as their beef brisket. read more

During the first year of the pandemic, we used a delivery service from Chinatown for Chinese groceries and BBQ food. Then the service closed as the owner wanted to focused on wholesale service. I am glad that my sisters recommended Jason BBQ which is located inside Richwell Market in Morton Grove, that we don't need to go all the way to Chinatown to get our BBQ food. I have been purchasing from Jason BBQ for over two years now. Jason BBQ's owner is a young lady, Mrs. Tam, whom I called "Kit Mui", meaning little sister Kit. She is super friendly and accommodating. She is very hard working and you can always see her working as a cashier and preparing food, such as scooping beef stew in boxes. Mr. Hui is the meat cutter, who is very friendly as well. Our favorites are Beef Stew, which is sold per box, Salt Baked Cage-Free Chicken, and BBQ Pork (Cha Shui). Their Beef Stew is very flavorful and tender. I always called earlier of the day to order to make sure that our favorites are not sold out. Their Roasted Duck, Roasted Pork, and Soya Chicken are good too. read more

The best authentic Hong Kong style roasted duck, beef stew & red roasted pork/char siew. It's located inside Richwell Asian Grocery store. So the meat is hung up and not refrigerated but fear not, it's monitored carefully as I've visited this place for years and never had a problem. I would say it's better or comparable to driving all the way to Chinatown or Argyle with the famous Chinese bbq joints. We normally only go to shop at the market connected, and I have to say it's sublime. Maybe it's the nostalgia, maybe it's the abundance of Asian food that you can't get anywhere near our house--one thing's for sure, we would definitely recommend it. The last time I got food cooked(Jason BBQ), the service was really good. The duck was a little fatty, but it was pretty good. Mei Mei is a great alternative to shops in Broadway/Argyle area and Chinatown. The food is delicious and the service is outstanding. They offer many Cantonese BBQ dishes and a variety of lunchboxes. It is located inside of Richwell Market. In addition to a small parking lot, there are plenty of spaces on the side street. Waiting on my twenty year old so I can eat this bbq. It was five but noticed the guy that cuts the meat doesn't wear gloves . Kinda scary. This food I guess is to die for, because I'm still eating it. I also picked up a 15 pound bag of rice and dim sum at the grocery they work out of . The language barrier is null. Dishonest company. They keep the best parts of your duck and give you the leftover scraps and bones. Sneaky! I saw it with my own eyes...they throw the good parts in a bin underneath the cutting board. Next time I will call them out on it. Pro Tip-record them when they chop your duck so you can catch them and show them as proof that they hide the best parts of the duck you paid for to themselves. Another tip- tell them not to chop your duck. Chop your duck when you get home. This way, they won't have the opportunity to hide portions of your duck for themselves. read more

I've ordered their duck and crispy skin pork with rice. Super tasty and great portions for the price. I especially like that their duck is not overly fatty but it's still really juicy. Same with the pork. I also like that they don't use a whole lot of food coloring. Very natural and I also got the pig stomach cold dish with spicy seasoning. It was delicious with a clean taste. Delicious and fresh HK style roasted pork and spicy marinated chicken feet! I purchased 0.62 lbs of pork for $6.20 and a box of chicken feet for $4.50. The price is not a steal, but not unreasonable given the pandemic situation and not a lot of Chinese bbq restaurants are open throughout the week -- so it's basically the only game in town out in the 'burbs. This little bbq stall is on your immediate right when you enter the Richwell Market. I am not sure if they had a credit card minimum, but the lady wasn't pleased when I couldn't pay in cash. read more

Place used to be good and the duck used to be fresh. Lately, I have been given fat, chewy pieces of bones. Today, I specifically order a duck on rice for my daughter. She doesn't like the duck sauce they pour over it so I made a point of saying please don't put any on there and she said okay. What does she do , she pours it on there anyway after I told her not to. They only offered to replace the rice and put the duck bones back on the plate. I said, you gave me all bones,plus they have sauce, she just looked and said nothing. I said "hello" what am I supposed to do with bones? I think they are board line racist. It's mostly asians who come in and the next person order what I did, they give her a fresh duck with plentiful meat. I did mention it, the other customer got meat and that lately, I've been getting the sloppy seconds/scraps. Again, no offering of new meat especially since she drowned it with duck sauce after I told her not to. Never coming here again, don't care how convenient it is. The roast duck is insanely delicious! I always get at least half a duck so I can get at least 2 meals from it. Highly recommend trying it.

Bought a whole roasted pig for a party and it was excellent! The pig was well prepared and ready to go when they said it would be. One of the cooks even brought it out to my car for me. Reasonably priced, would buy another whole pig from Mei Mei again. read more

Conveniently located inside Richwell Market on Dempster, a quick one stop can satisfy all of your specialty grocery, produce, fresh meat, and delicious BBQ needs. BBQ duck ($11.50 half/$22 whole) and pork are affordable and wonderfully tasty. Don't forget the rice. At $2.50 for a large container it's perfectly cooked and ready to complete a meal. I have ordered here before and have always been pleased with the quality of their food. I must confess, I believe BBQ King in Chinatown Square on Archer Ave. has the best Duck in the city!! But that is a long haul from up north and Parking there can be problematic. Mei Mei on Dempster, just West of Austin Ave. solves that problem. The skin of the Duck is nicely crisp. The meat is plentiful and tasty. It maintains its juices and just the right amount of fat for a delightful flavor. I have never roamed the store, always just the hot food counter. It has always been busy when I have stopped for Duck. Lots of Chinese speakers, and , like me, the occasional round eye!! There is a parking lot in front, with room for about 10 cars. The barbeque here is alright -- Not overly salty, okay textures (the meat is a little lean, but not bad if you reheat it), good selection. There's not too many Chinese BBQ offerings outside of Chinatown and this beats getting the dry BBQ that's been sitting out all day at other local grocery stores. Mei Mei is a welcome option for fast food Chinese BBQ to the Northern suburbs. The ambiance: It's a tiny little corner with no seating. You enter Richwell Market and it's immediately to your right upon walking in. You get an intimate view of your server butchering roasted and BBQ duck and pork. The food: First of all, the food here is CHEAP. Check out my pictures of the menu to see for yourself. The lunch specials (XX over Rice) are between $5.50-$6.00 for every one of them, and this is INCLUDING tax. Second, it's pretty good. I ordered the Duck over Rice, which was tasty. I would put it somewhere riiiiiight below Sun Wah (over on Argyle), but really not by too far. For me, I'm willing to overlook that tiny little difference in quality since Mei Mei is so much faster to get to (since I live in Evanston and have a car). The service: Pretty fast. No complaints. Everything I've tried here is great. Roasted pork and roasted duck are our go to carry out items, but we also like the boneless BBQ pork. The same lady is always there to cut up our meat with the giant cleaver. I often see chicken feet in the window, but don't plan to try them any time soon. Small store that makes fresh roast duck and roast pork. It's all very clean and tasty!!! Now I don't have to travel all the way to Chicago Chinatown. All we need is a Chinese bakery and a really good fresh dimsum house and we are set!!!. There is no fine in here just take out but it's all good. Coming back in a week to do more shopping!! This place is very busy and the food was ok. Why such a low rating then? Hygiene. The guy prepping the food did not wear gloves or have a hairnet. But whatever, right? WORSE the guy who came in to assist him was hacking and coughing, not wearing gloves, not covering his mouth when he coughed, touching the food prep, the bags, ringing people up and touching all over the place.
