This company did fine, but the attention to detail and going several thousand over budget despite…read moreminimizing the scope of work was not appreciated. The work they did do got the minimum job done. They dug up plants and landscaping to make room for the new walkway and replanted our meticulously placed landscaping in a disorderly way. For example, we have arranged early spring, early summer, and late summer bloomers in linear order so the new blooms cover old withering each season. They just shoved everything back in the dirt in no particular order so our seasonal blooms are mixed amongst each other and bloom and wither in random pattern. They did not use the correct particle sand to fill pavers so that is washing away and destabilizing pavers after a season. The pavers are cut with huge sometimes two inch gaps around curves and edges. Therefore, the team just packed the excessive gaps and asymmetrical paver placement with wrong particle sand. I asked them to back fill under the low spots --probably fewer than ten different sections of a foot or two stretch--under the fence they built so the dog couldn't get out under the fence. That repeated request was ignored/not responded to, although we offered to pay more for the time and materials. We deliberated over a 6 vs 8-foot fence and settled on 6, but they failed to advise that would not provide sufficient elevation above the very high patio they built to re-grade a steep drop off. So we have an awkward foot or so of fence wall above a very high patio that took two more truckloads of gravel to elevate than quoted. And they broke our water sprinkler system while doing the work. So the sprinkler system that worked before they did their work was broken after and they not only didn't fix it, but said it was due to the sprinkler system being old. Well, don't really care if it's old. It worked before you dug around or near it and it didn't work after. You even told us when you couldn't get it to be functional after your guys did the work and somehow fixing / replacing it is still our problem. Overall, a $30,000 landscape and hardscape job was not done as meticulously as we would have expected. Also, future touch points for follow up work--although we had discussed multiple phases of projects before signing on--went ignored. Don't know what Ted's deal is, but I can say for sure we were not particularly difficult or unreasonable, paid the almost $30k on time and without incident vs $23k we were quoted, and still went ignored, under serviced, and ended up with certain aspects of our home left in worse condition than this contractor found it, costing us even more In the long run.

Landscape Matters did an amazing job extending our patio and building a fire pit with sitting wall…read more They have transformed our backyard into a place we can hang out as a family now. They also installed uplighting in the front of our house which looks great. I highly recommend them for your next project!

I hired Heather back in October 2022 to do a walk-through of my property. I am a novice -- more…read morelike a zygote -- to anything having to do with planting or keeping things with roots alive. I have two acres and many restrictions regarding what might grow on it (including, but not limited to: my inexperience, deer, more rock than soil, little sun...). Not only did Heather have those restrictions to contend with, I wanted to do the work myself and require little enough that I could realistically maintain what I created even though I have a day job. Heather met the challenge with such knowledge and gentleness. I would send her long texts despairing that I was approaching a certain aspect incorrectly, or worried that it wasn't going to work, or that I wasn't even using the correct tool for the job.. She was patient, detail-oriented (while making sure she didn't overwhelm) and has for all intents and purposes been in my pocket, available for any need, the entire time. She did a great job of understanding what it was I was wanting to accomplish -- with me trying to describe without knowing any of the appropriate terms. She has been -- and continues to be -- the knowledgable crutch I have needed to, for the first time in my life, create an outside space that I am already proud of. Thank you, Heather!

I wanted to know which plants would be best for our shady backyard and what was feasible given that our backyard slopes quite a bit down to a creek. She came to my house and took some some pictures, asked what we were looking for. Heather gave us the perfect plan for our family. Low maintenance (no mowing a lawn!), perfect for the shade, kid and pet friendly. We're not huge fans of the playground sets that are always in backyards, we just feel like they start decaying the minute you put them in. So she came up with a really cool rock yard area, where kids could climb and jump on boulders. But without the maintenance and eyesore of a playground set. Heather is super laid back. And really just a sweet kind person. She will definitely continue to be our point person as we dig into this project.

The new deck is well built and sturdy. I am no longer hesitant to have more than a couple of people on it at one time. The team also found an issue with our front porch and were able to remedy it before we had a major problem down the line. The pricing was very reasonable and the entire crew was very professional. Highly recommended!

They also designed the landscaping perfectly with plants and low voltage lighting which really makes our backyard spectacular at night. Additionally, on the porch they performed some framing work that has turned out amazing for our entertainment. Guests we've had over say it feels like a resort. Throughout the project Mark communicated very well and was honest and upfront of all costs associated with the project. With such a large investment I was always asking Mark questions and he always picked up the phone to take the time to answer my questions. Mark knows the construction business extremely well and that wealth of knowledge made our backyard a little piece of paradise. I couldn't be more enthusiastic in recommending Artistic Landscapes for your next project, they truly know know so much about every aspect of the business.

I can't speak for others who hired Venator to do other types of work which may be totally different…read morethan the work I required. I hired Venator to install a 4" channel drain that was to replace an original 28 year old 1" drain that was no longer adequate to collect heavy rains and move it away from my patio. While Venator's proposal seemed to be promising to provide a much needed improvement, the end results were a big disappointment. A concrete opening had to be cut in order to receive the new Spee-D Channel drain along a 25' section of my concrete patio, but they cut the opening too small. They proceeded to trim the Spee-D Channel on the bottom to make it fit into the undersized opening, which compromised the integrity of the plastic channel and wasted time focusing on the retrofitting process. All they had to do was to cut an additional 2-3" strip from the concrete and the drain would have dropped into place as the instructions suggested. After numerous attempts to inform the owner, who refused to visit the site to inspect the work, he insisted the job was being done by "Industry Standards". His main communication was via Text. I kept him informed of the shoddy workmanship with the hopes he would come by to see for himself. That was not on his agenda, even after expressing my dissatisfaction with the job as it was proceeding. I was not given a dedicated day for the work to be done. It seemed like my job was fitted in after the workers finished on a previous job. The two workers showed up at 6pm on day one and worked until 8:30pm. Not being able to finish, they had to return the next day at 3pm and worked until 8pm. The two worked hard doing their job but it seemed like this was an exploration, not a familiar experience for them. The left photo is what the installation should look like if done correctly and the right photo is what was installed, after having to cut the bottom flange on the channel drain to force it into the opening in the ground. Unfortunately, you never know what results you will get from a vendor until the job is completed. I am sorry I hired Venator for this job and I do not recommend him for this type of work.

A costly mistake, not just for this job, but for the tens, if not hundreds of thousands in future work that could have followed. They say 80% of success is simply showing up.
