Epically disappointed! Go on a Saturday afternoon with my daughter for an early dinner, pretty excited to try this place, and there weren't many customers. We are waiting to be seated when a young girl comes up and says you can sit anywhere. It took 5 min for them to notice us just standing there. But here's the kicker...there were about 7 or 8 employees sitting at the counter doing absolutely nothing but chatting it up. So we went and tried to pick a booth which was semi clean. Please explain to me why I had to check for a clean booth when there were employees at the counter doing absolutely nothing? The place was filthy. No excuse. My daughter looked at me and said mom let's go. This place is nasty. So we picked up and left. No excuse for this. Where is management? I love the food.....that said, the help needs a lot of help. It's just a very bad system. We have been there 4 times, twice alone, twice with our Grandsons. Food sits way too long before it is served, our server brought half our order, my husband asked for sugar free syrup.....she said sure, then went to take another order while his pancakes got cold. Our Grandsons never got their drinks until we asked another server. The hash browns came out after we were done eating. And worst of all...NO ONE SMILES. This place was a complete joke. Walked in and it was dead I mean like not 1 person sitting down. Good or bad ? We'll see. 35 mins later.... yes 35 minutes for some eggs and hash... really ?. For the mixed reviews here I'm guessing we came on a good day. We were in And out within 30 minuets and the food was delicious. Our server was great and the place was clean. Will definitely return. My rating is a two star because I found the food to be way too sweet, the omelette was too soggy, and the tables were not clean. Went here 8:00 am this morning to avoid mother's day rush. Fully staffed and only five tables. So I was excited to have a nice quiet breakfast with my daughters. We got our coffee right away and ordered. My daughter had a plain waffle and my other daughter ordered a pecan waffle. I ordered two sunny side eggs, with toast, sausage, home fries, and a side order of bacon. The breakfast took forever which I couldn't understand since it was basically empty being so early. Waitress never came to refill coffee and had to wait till food came to get more since she disappeared. When it came the sausage was burnt and cold, and the eggs were so runny, not cooked enough and still raw and slimy on top. They said I had to wait for the toast. Who eats sunny side up eggs without toast. When I realized they were still uncooked I asked them to please cook them more cause I can't eat them raw.. she took them and asked if I wanted them over easy. I didn't want to argue and I said sure. I started to share the pecan waffle with my daughter since I was hungry. The waffle was so overloaded with pecans there was hardly any waffle. When my eggs finally came they were over hard not easy, but the worst part was they gave them to me minus my bacon, sausage, hash browns, or toast. Are you kidding me? Is this a joke? I asked to speak to the manager. I told him everything that went wrong and this was a train wreck. It's still slow with hardly anyone in here and there is no excuse for this. I was a waitress for over 20 years so I'm pretty easy on criticism for a new place, but if I bought this franchise and opened over a month ago, I would want to know what needed improvement. The staff is very friendly, the country fried steak definitely hit the spot, the manager visited our table to make sure everything was to our satisfaction so we have no complaints. The floor could have been cleaned up where later customers were being seated but other than that, we will be returning to try breakfast. I was there this past Sunday and was highly disappointed. There is no host and place was packed. They need a need to at least greet guest for potential wait time. When we sat down I order coffee which they brought instantly. We placed our order and it never came, only to be told more than half hour later that their machine ticket was not working. The anticipation of this Huddle House was high in our house. All of that excitement was gone after our attempted visit on a late Sunday afternoon. We assumed that there was going to be a wait, seeing it was a Sunday, and it was newly opened. The restaurant is small, and the seating was very limited. No host to greet you or even give you a reference on what to do. There was counter space open, when we attempted to sit there, we were told, 'you can't sit there now'. This was the only interaction we had with any staff, 6 wait staff that were immediately visible, within the 5-7 minutes we waited in the front. The restaurant is 'open concept' where the kitchen is exposed. This also let us see the going's on and the staff interaction, which was very poor and consisted of a few expletives in just the short time we were standing there. We were finally greeted by a young waitress, who in fairness seemed overwhelmed but friendly. She asked us how many in our party, we stated 2, and immediately another waitress came to tell the greeting waitress, 'not in my section I'm done.' When she attempted to explain a wait time, another waitress, or manager came to tell the assisting waitress that she 'needs to let these people know, that there is an hour hold on all food orders 'cuz the system is backed up'. We asked what does an hour hold mean, because there was open and available seating, and she explained that there was a lag in the kitchen and we would not get our food in over an hour if the order was placed. Not understanding that explanation, and with several open tables and even counter space, we left hungry and discouraged and confused. Super disappointed. We were really really excited about the addition to the neighborhood, but now it seems like a waist of energy. My suggestion: the owner should have a 'huddle' with this Huddle House staff and operations, and get this fixed ASAP. Will not be returning. read more

This place seems to pump out a ton of delivery/pickup orders. Every time I go in there are loads of orders awaiting pickup from DoorDashers etc. I have never ordered for pickup or delivery since I prefer to just take a walk since it is so close to my house. When I usually stop in on a weekend morning it is not packed to the brim which is nice. The servers always come over after a minute or so to grab our drink orders and make nice early morning conversation. The waffles are my favorite item on the menu. The pancakes are a little too dense and heavy for my liking. The omelettes are delicious and the coffee never stops flowing. This place feels like a mom and pop spot instead of a chain. Sometimes it gets a little crazy so you might wait a little and sometimes it is empty but they seem to always be cooking up a million takeout orders. For now I will enjoy never having to wait for a table although I'm sure once people are out again in full swing this place will be packed in person. Placed a takeout order over the phone. When they answered the phone they left me on hold for 10 minutes. Hung up and called them back. A kid answered...I had to repeat my order 3 times before she got it right. She told me the order would be ready in 15 minutes. Ten minutes later I left to pick up the order. When I arrive home and open the order I was Flabbergasted!!! The order of onion rings had 8 onion rings. I ordered 1 order of onion rings and was charged for 2. They were stone cold and small not even enough for one person. The 2 huddle burgers were suppose to have cheddar cheese on them but they had a cheese sauce ya know like a cheese whiz...YUK!!! But the portion of French fries was absurd!!! 14 skinny French fries...REALLY!!! And 8 tatter tots with the other burger. Everything was STONE COLD!!! I paid $22.00 plus a $3.00 tip for crappie cold food and bad service!!! If Huddle House is trying to pass themselves off as a cut above Diner...your NOT!!! I had better food at Newark airport. NEVER AGAIN!!! I will take my business to a real diner where the food comes out hot and the portion sizes are generous for the money I am paying!!! First time going to a Huddle house, will more than likely be the last. Arrived at the Garfield location around 8am on a Saturday. We were told to sit anywhere we would like. A few minutes later server comes to take order. I ordered the waffle platter with sausage. My BF ordered the chicken fried steak platter with two eggs sunny side up, hash browns well done and white toast. Sat there for maybe another 10 mins. Server says to my BF his comes with two sides, which we thought was weird since the bfast platter on menu did not say that. He opted not to take another side. Fast fwd to seems like 30 mins, food comes out. Mine was fine. My BF had CFS with brown gravy on top and hash browns. No eggs no toast. When asked where the eggs and toast are the server went up to the person cooking. The second server who apparently was doing the cooking at that time told us she did not make a mistake the server did, b/c she put in the order wrong. Instead of putting the CFS bfast platter she put in the dinner. The second server said she can put in the eggs. We choose not to do it. We finished the meal and the toast never came to our table. It sat on the heating counter the whole time we were there. The second server cleared our table and asked "aside from the mishap was everything else good?". We said it was alright but never got the toast. She informed us that the first server put in the toast incorrectly and burned it so she had to make another set and told that server to come back to get the toast. She then looked back and toast still sitting in the heating counter. No one came over after that. for 15 mins we sat waiting for our check.Long story short I will not be coming back to this huddle house or perhaps any other location. Very disappointed. read more

Unfortunately I can only give this establishment one star. The first visit for me made me very sick. Being from the south I was so looking forward to this restaurant since southern food is hard to find in New Jersey. I gave this establishment a second chance for breakfast today and ordered a simple eggs and bacon platter. I ordered my eggs over medium but was served eggs that we're so undercooked. The white of the egg was so raw that they were transparent. By the time the server came by to check on us my husband had already finished his food. I did mention to her that my eggs were very undercooked, which she agreed with. Hope this review helps others but mostly hope that the restaurant staff reads this to realize their mistakes and they'll correct them for future guests. I recently was at Huddle House in Garfield. We had to move our booth since there was so many ants under this booth. The staff were standing at the counter on their cells . My silverware was dirty even if it was wrapped up in a napkin. I placed my order and got my runny eggs 15 min later. I said no runny eggs. I had to wait another 10 min for a new plate of runny eggs again. I was mad.I saw my waitress with bucket and brush going in the bathroom. Guess it was her day to clean the toilet. Glad I got my meal first . I was late for work. The place was not empty but it took so long to get my lunch and the place was dirty . NO one cleans under the booths. They need new cooks and new waitresses. AND TAKE THOSE CELLS AWAY FROM THEM. Glad I did not order a waffle . Saw the mess at by the waffle makers. Well..I walked in and the place had a smell of a septic tank..I was greeted at the door and I asked about the smell.. the server said she will check with management and said seat yourself. .I know this is a southern based company but that type of service does not work around her.. Meanwhile tables are filthy,I hear arguing in the back area. . Staff sitting at the counter. One table in the place eating. Then I see a lady walk out from the back I am guessing manager .. start yelling at the staff for not doing anything. She made a scene. I walked out. I was in the building for all of 3 minutes and it was an absolute mess and a horrible run restaurant. I would not bring my worst enemy here. Oh and I never found out about the smell. The manager lady was still yelling when walked out and never even said hello and had no care guests were in the building. At least hire staff that knows and understands hospitality. As per response from Michael G., my fiancé and I gave your establishment another try. And fail yet again. We opted to give the Huddle House another try by simply ordering a take out order of milkshakes. The girl who answered the phone seemed very confused and unknowledgeable to start with. Placed my order which I was told would take ten minutes (for 2 milkshakes mind you). Went to pick up 15 minutes there after the orders were still not ready and not to mention on a Friday night, the place was basically empty. Why two milkshakes cannot be expedited in a timely manner I cannot answer. We than followed to pay with the $20 gift card that we were given by what I assume was a district manager on there second "grand opening" last Saturday, due to our first horrible experience (I had checked the balance prior to make sure the funds were available which they were) and was told that the gift card was not working repeatedly. At this point we did not even want the milkshakes and went to walk out. Too much of a hassle for something so simple. The staff on hand told us to "just give them the gift card and take the milkshakes" when the card would've still had a remaining balance on it after this purchase. Milkshakes were extremely liquidly basically was like drinking flavored milk. Half of the take away cup was filled with what tasted like cool whip. Not appealing at all we did not even drink them after trying them. Threw them away. Keep your money from the gift card huddle house. At this rate your establishment won't last very long. I called in to order and was instructed that I had to order via Uber eats or Doordash. I used Uber eats once before so went with that. For some reason, I was unable to order using that so I downloaded doordash. I ordered the waffle platter no butter with egg whites cooked well done and turkey bacon. It took 2 hours for me to get my meal. Then to make things worse, the food was ice cold and my waffle was soaked in butter, literally soaked (I lifted the waffle and butter came pouring from the soggy waffle) and instead of turkey bacon I was surprised to find sausage and super runny eggs. I called customer service and asked if they could place another order. I asked if they can make another note saying to cook the egg whites well done and not to add butter on the waffle.This order took another 45min-1 hour to get to me. When it finally came, the eggs were cooked for less time than the first order (literally half liquid) and there wasn't any meat. The waffle however was perfect -_- I called again and they sent another order that took another hour. Eggs were cooked a little better but waffle had butter on it. At this point I was so far beyond livid and gave up. If I could rate 0 stars I would. When I spoke with the manager at huddle House, she was the rudest people ever. I was excited to try Huddle House until I actually went. It was a rainy Saturday so I decided to get take out for my son and me. I walked through the door and immediately felt like I was a burden. I asked someone who was waiting if I had to wait to be seated and he said yes. A woman finally acknowledged me, walked up to me and said it would be a 45 minute wait. I told her I was there for take out and she said it didn't matter. The way she spoke made me feel that my business was not welcome. It took a while for me to get a menu then a while longer for someone to take my order. While waiting for my order to be "next in line" to be prepared there was total chaos in the place. People who were there for sit down were told they couldn't be seated, although there were empty tables, because the staff was behind. I don't see why they had to stand at the door instead of being seated with a cup of coffee and a menu to look at. When I asked to see a manager, the woman who originally greeted me said she was the manager! Wow! She was so unprofessional. I wonder if this is her first manager position. A couple walked in that she knew and they were treated very well. They were seated almost immediately and when someone the couple knew walked in later, they were seated before guests that were there first. The food was good, especially for the price, but the staff leaves a lot to be desired. I highly doubt I'll go back.
