The juice was tart and delicious. The breakfast platter was a showstopper. Two fried eggs, tomato, feta, two meat patties, and homemade bread. The flavors of the meat blew my mind. The plethora of fake flowers EVERYWHERE should have been the first red flag (at least they weren't dusty). Flowers even engulfed the flat screen TV. All the chicken based entrees and sandwiches had zero taste. Seasoning anyone? $4.00 for a teeny coke and no tap water available. Salads also were forgettable but the barak was tasty and with the right amount of flaky fluff. I say stick to the barak and perhaps grab a desert. It's a cute restaurant with nice outdoor area which is nice when it's good weather. Tried their fresh lemonade, however I wasn't impressed and it's pricey. You have to add your own sugar in. But the fresh spinach and cheese burek was warm, crispy and delightful! It's one of the things they are known for so def try a burek. We also ordered the veggie pizza which was like upside down pizza made with fresh bread. We got the rafato cake for dessert to go and it was okay. The waiter was helpful in giving suggestions and letting us know what they are known for which is burek and beignets. As some of the items are made fresh it does take time to get your food once you order. While looking for a brunch we saw the beautiful images of cafe Bubamara. Upon arrival we parked at the public parking lot, a block across the restaurant. The restaurant was pretty packed, but we were lucky to get a table right away. As we walked thru the restaurant, we got to see the gorgeous aesthetics of this place, filled with colors, flowers, and greenery. The menu had so many unique Turkish dishes I had never seen before. I started with the Turkish coffee, a hardcore black coffee that came in a small cute kettle pot which few sugar cubes in a bowl. The mini burek was a delicious bread filled with ground beef. Ustipci, that is like beignet, was full of fluffy soft yummy dough, with a bunch of cheese cubes. The domaci dorucak was a dish of three spicy beef sausages with side of bread, cheese and cucumber. The sausages were excellent. Our dishes were served in quick time. Service was amazing. Simply put we loved everything about this place, the food, the service, the ambience. The atmosphere and garden are beautiful, if crowded and slightly claustrophobic. I had a couple of key issues. First, the breakfast platter with the beef sausage. My friend and I both got the same thing and both our eggs were cooked differently; hers were runny and mine were fully cooked. The sausage had an extremely gamey and meaty funk that made them hard to stomach. The bread did not come with butter or oil. The Turkish very coffee was good, however, and served in lovely cups. The restaurant also allows dogs in the outdoor area. Not sure if they're service animals only, but it was such a tight space that it made things uncomfortable. We saw the dessert display as we walked to table and knew we needed to save room. We were brought water (only bottled water is served) and a yogurt drink. We were advised to stir water to loosen the house made yogurt before drinking. It was tart and refreshing. Café Bubamara translates from Serbian for ladybug where some of us haven't returned to dine after 4 years. This is first come, first served, where reservations are not taken. Upon arrival tonight for dinner, the vibe was warm, relaxed, and cozy, as if you've entered into a family member's dining room with photos of notables from the former Yugoslavia era. The open-air patio area was like being in someone's backyard, with plants, comfortable seating areas, and the music everywhere as my partner, our friends and I got a table right away. Space heaters were available for those cool evenings. Their large picture menu offered traditional Balkan dishes such as common street foods such as burek (pie or pastry made of phyllo dough with a variety of fillings), cevapi (grilled Serbian sausages), and pljeskavice (grilled meat patty), as well as homestyle dishes such as popara (bread porridge), kacamak (maize porridge), and homemade strudel. As an appetizer, we went for the Uštipci served with honey and feta cheese. For the main meal, we decided on the Skirt Steak Carne Asada Sandwich, Devrek (beef), Mediterranean Chicken, Balkan Burger, and Chicken in Mushroom Sauce. The presentation alone was worthy of an order. The food was beyond amazingly tasty and well seasoned with fresh ingredients. The staff were friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about their cuisine, especially our server, Bernard. One doesn't feel rushed to get out like other eateries. The portions were generous, and the prices were more than reasonable considering the authenticity and quality of the food. This is obviously the type of place that patrons living within five or ten miles will make their regular local hangout. This spot is a must go for Balkan eats. They offer the best Chevapi I've eaten. A nice touch to their chevapi is a cream cheese like spread that only adds to the savory texture of the meal. Omelette with feta cheese and instead of the goat however I could taste that initially goat was added. To add the eggs were overcooked and rubbery. The multi grain french was very bland and would not recommend at all. The meal itself left me dissatisfied. I had to ask for the bread which was part of the order separately and then butter as well. I came on a weekday round 11am and the restaurant was already 75% full, which is a good sign. As far as I know they do not take reservations. So come early, especially on weekends. The menu is much larger than I expected and has a nice layout accompanied by pictures of the food. There were many things I wanted to try, but with a party of just two people we were only able to order a few things. We opted for the Bubamara breakfast platter, Bubamara omelette, meat burek, and Turkish coffee. Everything was great, but the highlight for me was the burek. It was flaky, crispy, and meticulously layered to perfection. The succulent filling of the seasoned minced meat was rich in aroma and perfectly cooked to tender perfection. Just the smell of it as it arrived at our table was enough to make me salivate. Will definitely come back again as there were many other items I wanted to try on the menu. Authentic balkan, food I'm from the area and always visit Cafe Bubamara. They have a very clean kitchen, great food, great cakes, and desserts. There burek is some of the best in the area. Depending on who you get as a waiter, staff can be very nice or rude. However, would definitely recommend visiting Cafe Bubamara. read more
