Ordered online, waited over an hour for food. The burgers were extremely burned. The fries and tenders over cooked and rock hard. Went back for a refund and the employees there tried arguing with me that the food was fine. I ask for my money back and was told they can't help me. Extremely unprofessional place. These employees need more training. Completely unacceptable. Was told to "have a nice life" as we walked out the door. :( wow I just wanted some grub.

Family Diner - Take out catfish plate( available on Fridays)

It was Friday so fried fish was on the menu. The fried whiting was delicious with sides of mac n cheese, cabbage and green beans. All perfectly seasoned. My friend loved her meal as well. She even got a to go plate for later, w/ fried catfish and sides. Service was friendly and courteous. The wait staff checked on us frequently to see if we needed anything. We'll definitely be back the next time we travel to Oxford!

The street situation precluded a few spots downtown, and since we weren't in the mood for our go-to taco place, we decided to head out to the Family Diner. The walk-in was awkward on our part- cash register or hot bar line first? A sweet call from the kitchen of "Y'all's first time?" got us headed in the right direction. Full disclaimer: I've been nostalgic for the southern cafeteria lately. While talking to some food industry friends last week, we realized there is something powerful about the food we all remember from K and W. And while Family Diner doesn't have a giant dining room or a 5-snake velvet rope line to get to the counter, it does take me back. Here's how we made our choices: the hot bar was a choice of three types of chicken- the baked and fried were tempting until the gentleman serving us says: "We can fry you fish to order. Flounder, trout, and catfish." The chicken got skipped for a plate of flounder (plentiful plate, btw), and a side of the Mac and cheese and cooked cabbage. The kid sampled the catfish plate, same sides. Sweet tea. And yes ma'am, I'd like the cornbread. Done. We sat down at a table in the main, cozy dining room. The first thing that I noticed: this place is clean- tidy, even. There was a super polite young man moving around and busing tables, tidying up unassumingly and doing it in a way that is lacking in some finer dining places I've been in recently. The food came out, piping hot. I used one of the malt vinegar packets to douse my flounder (a cafeteria habit) and dug in. The first bite was light and flaky, cooked perfectly. Nothing greasy-tasting, at all, just clean. The sides were great- nothing over seasoned, and like cooking at home, there was room for you to season things to your taste. Well played, Family Diner. The owner (I think? She was the one who guided us down the right path when we walked in) came out to make sure that we were happy, and yes ma'am, it's great, and holy cow, you just dropped this cornbread into the skillet and fried it? Yes, we will be back. It's unassuming, and it's just what the doctor ordered. It's a cafeteria, but it's clean and polite and makes you feel good that you ate there. It's soul food, but not just from an ethnic standpoint- it makes me happy and full and feel welcome and I'll be back.

Lovely decorations and definitely has a 50s feel to it. I got the bacon jalapeno burger omelette, fries and 2 slices of toast are included. The omelette was delicious and chock full of toppings, my only possible complaint would be that the cheese coverage didn't reach the far end. However, that can probably be specified beforehand and its not enough to knock of a star. Regardless of this, I loved it. The bacon and burger were full of flavor and the grilled jalapenos had just the right amount of spice. The grilled onions on top were a great touch. When you're done with your omelette and there's leftover toppings on the plate, you can use fries to sort of scoop them up (awesome). The service was also great. The waitress was talking to regulars, and even asked us what we were up to today. Food came out pretty quick and she asked us if we wanted refills the moment our cups were low. Overall, nice little place. Forgot to get a picture of the food because I was so focused on eating. If I ever come back through the area between the operating hours of 8 and 2 I will certainly be going here. If I happened to pass through after they closed I would probably break in for the pie. (Kidding)

This is a must-visit for diner enthusiasts. The building sits on the north-south main thoroughfare…read morethrough historic downtown Farmville, an area once lined with tobacco warehouses. It is very small, with about fifteen stools wrapping around a classic service counter. According to the menu, the diner is a "One-Master Model 15-Stool Valentine steel building," made by Valentine Manufacturing Company of Wichita, Kansas, in 1955. They have a small parking lot in back of the diner. I parked there and then saw a bathroom entrance sign -- after a 2 1/2-hour trip, nature was calling. It is a very clean bathroom located at the rear of the building, with a separate entrance from the parking lot. There is no access to the restroom from inside the diner -- a unique and nostalgic feature you don't see much anymore. I walked around to the front of the building, entered, sat down on a stool, and was greeted with, "Y'all having a good day so far?" I had a half sweet/half unsweet tea and the Cheeseburger Deluxe with no mayonnaise. It came with lettuce, tomato, pickle chips, onions, French fries, and cole slaw. I put ketchup on the fries, but the fresh tomato alone provided plenty of flavor for the juicy, delicious burger. The French fries were crispy and delicious -- exactly what you hope for at a classic diner. The cole slaw was outstanding and clearly tasted homemade. The pies looked incredible, and because the cheeseburger platter was so good, I had a piece of blueberry buttermilk cake topped with whipped cream -- wow! There is also a clearly posted 3% surcharge if paying with a credit card. Prices are reasonable, so it didn't feel like an issue. This was a great overall experience, and I would recommend this classic, nostalgic mid-20th-century diner to anyone traveling through Farmville. It closes at 2 pm, so plan accordingly!

As most themed restaurant are geared toward specific audience, this place is no exception. The atmosphere is very welcoming and inviting. The place is relaxed and laid back. Steven Tickles and his wife are usually there and we were told they personally greeted everyone when they are. The staff were attentive and friendly as well. For Breakfast you have to try the unique Cinnamon Egg Nog French Toast. It comes with toast bacon or sausage and two eggs with a touch of moonshine, and amazing culinary creation. For those who are omelette people, you have to try Dan's Omelette, three eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, onions and peppers toped with cheddar cheese. They also offer a excellent Sausage Gravy Biscuit. I had to 8oz Beef Ribeye, the Ribeye was very buttery, and cooked just right. Before you go they also have a small storefront where they sell merchandise. As I am an avid cookbook collector I have to pick up theirs, "The Tickles Table" I would have gave the place five starts, but I wanted to meet Steven, sadly he was not there the time we passed through. Give this place a try if you are in the area.

We started with green bean fries and brisket stuffed onion rings. Both were perfectly cooked. The onion rings paired well with the spicy ranch sauce offered. Highly recommend this place. The finale was when the owner Tickle himself walked around as kind and humble as can be. He spoke with everyone in his diner. This was a wonderful experience!!
