Their food is great but service is sometimes bad and their tables aren't always clean.

I found this spot when we weee staying nearby and looking for some biscuits and gravy…read more We were quickly seated and started looking over the menu. There were some great options which made choosing difficult, but we tried the biscuits and gravy (go ahead - get 2 biscuits!) and the fried chicken and biscuit. Both were great! The sandwich wasn't huge so it was a perfect amount for breakfast. We sat inside - it's very cute - with a market and to go as well as the tables. Food comes up fast and is really reasonably priced! The chicken was perfectly fried - not greasy - and the hot honey was a nice touch (and thankfully, not too hot). Good bathrooms and lots of tasty looking items in the refrigerated cases (including various types of seafood to cook).

This is a combination restaurant, store, bakery and premade takeout place. Amazing…read more I came for a late breakfast/ lunch. I was seated right away and my order was taken quickly. I decided on a grits bowl . I was shocked at ghe size of the bowl when it was delivered a short while later. Huge is an understatement. The grits were well done, the bacon plentiful and lots of cheese. I could only finish about half of it. Really nice dish I will get again. There's not a lot of tables, and it would be hard for a large group but even if you have to wait for a table, it is worth the wait! I will return!

She also made some suggestions for us. Very inexpensive for three meals. We did have to pull up and wait for a few minutes to receive our food. It was right at lunch time on a Monday, so no complaints. :) Overall experience was good and will definitely be a repeat customer if we are in the area. Keep up the good work!

It's not expensive and isn't old tasting and tired like the other burger places around here. It's so refreshing to have a different taste around here and good customer service. Btw, Jack's sells ice by the BAG for only 1.49 and they give you sooooooooo much. Their burgers are scrumptious and so are their fried pies. The sad part for me is I went while I was couldn't cook due to moving and I have been hooked since! I highly recommend you give them a try! Everyone's experience is different so I suggest giving them a chance instead of listening to negative reviews. After places like Checkers (just the one here in Douglas, not all Checkers) horrible service, they finally went out of business. We have Jack's now, so please give them a chance. They deserve it. They know how to treat people, give excellent, exceptional service, and most of all, their food is made to order, unlike the other burger joints here. I give them 5/5 stars for the reasons stated above, in addition to their proximity to other shopping and convenience!

The theming is cute-- it plays nicely off of the existing structure and history, with just a bit of campiness. The roving Pirate was my least favorite part-- she popped in on us twice and delivered a few pirate puns. I would have appreciated if she was able to share more interesting tid bits about the building and its history. A bit of a missed opportunity to know your audience, especially in a quiet restaurant on a fairly dead night. Our waiter was excellent. He was knowledgeable about the menu, attentive and paced our meal well. He made solid recommendations based on what we shared that we would enjoy. As far as the food goes, it was really surprisingly delicious. I had the she crab soup and an entree salad. The soup was flavorful and full of crab. The salad was huge, the grilled chicken was nice and overall, a very satisfying dish. Two in my party ordered the ribs and raved about them. The filet was well liked and the fried shrimp in the entree were flavorful, not overly greasy, and plentiful. The one dish that wasn't well liked was the fried catfish. The grits were dry and the catfish needed something else. Desert was nice but basic, I don't know that any of it was house made. The key lime pie was a little overly sweet, but the chocolate cake was a big hit. If you're on the fence, I'd say it's worth a try, for the charm and historical significance of the restaurant.
