He provided great stories about local history and culture. As part of the package, we got to stop by the Alaska wildlife conservation center. This actually became the highlight of our trip and exceeded our expectations. It's always great when unexpected surprises turn out to be the best part of a tour. Only wished we could have had more time to visit and learn more. Overall the tour was well worth the money and that the small group size provided a personalized touch. We visited the ULU factory, the Captain Cook memorial, Earthquake Park, and a beautiful overlook where we saw the Chugach Mountains, Talkeetna Mountains and Denali (in the distance). We gave him a $5 tip anyway because we felt sorry for him. If you decide to take this tour, find out who the guide will be and where they will take you.

This was especially apparent in the elevator with the gaudy faux gold hand rails and the smelly outdated carpet. It felt 1980's for sure! The room was average at best. I did have lunch and dinner at their restaurants and was very disappointed except for one (I will drop reviews on those restaurants). I love the history. But it's not enough for me to pay top dollar for an average hotel room. I will not be coming back.

I will admit, they did crush my dreams of snowmobiling on a glacier and seeing the Northern Lights because it was too late in the season. But hey, at least I knew. They provide you with awesome recommendations to get you going whether it be attractions, places to eat or things to do. The log cabin in front is more of a welcome center and has some history and a greeter. The larger building in the back is more of where the magic happens. That is where you will find all the attraction brochures and the information of what is operating during that time of year. Both buildings are very clean and organized and they are strategically located by quite a few souvenir shops. There is metered street parking on the street in front of and adjacent to the Center. It was very helpful and got me a good itinerary put together. Like I said, this is a must stop when you are planning things to do during your vacation in anchorage.

The manager's response to my characterization of this hotel as "filthy" was, "I apologize for the inconvenience." Everything is worn out. Everything is filthy. I am staying here an extra day as part of a Regent Seven Seas cruise. Regent is paying for tomorrow. I cannot believe that a luxury cruise line -- much less "the world's most luxurious cruise line" -- puts its passengers here. I suspect that it's an old relationship. But Regent needs to visit this place and rethink this relationship. And if you're thinking of staying here, I urge you to rethink too.

Others trying to check in were having problems with the reservations. New name is Wyndham or Wyndgate. They did honor our reservation but lost our Choice points and we did get the email notice of the change 830pm while on the plane with a warning that we might have a problem with the reservation. Shame on Choice/Comfort. Stayed the 2 days with Wyndham, breakfast was good and busy, wifi was adequate, location was great on Ship Creek and close to downtown.
