Chef Eric kicked it out of the park yesterday! A fantastic and well thought out wine dinner for 10 in the magnificent dining room overlooking the Hudson. The chef paired his four-course dinner to our wine theme with each course reflecting Northern Italy's influences. Steak tartare, organic farm fresh egg, hazelnut oil from italy, shaved parmesan ; Braised Duck leg in barolo lentil stew ; Barolo braised veal Osso Bucco, polenta fermented mushrooms grilled rapini, pickled chili and golden raisins for mains Topping it off, a gluten free Hazelnut cake, 18 yr Italian balsamic vinegar, baked orange! We were here for a large and intricate wedding and the grounds and decor (planned by the bride and groom's families) were just gorgeous. The event was truly memorable - but the actual mansion itself could use more restroom facilities (the tented area uses a glorified "port-a-potty" with 3 stalls for ladies only. All the food and bands were from vendors - not this venue - but for a gorgeous OUTDOOR location - we got lucky with the weather - this is a magnificent spot. Your mileage may vary. read more

DO NOT BOOK THIS VENUE FOR YOUR WEDDING! We had a terrible experience working with Maryellen Fabry. She was rude, disrespectful of our time, and not accommodating at all. When we tried to schedule a tour, Maryellen initially told us to come on a scheduled time on a Saturday. On the way to the venue (2 hours in) she let us know she would not be there and that we would not be able to tour the venue anymore. No apology or explanation just an Alert. We stupidly continued with the process despite this disrespectful move. When we had a contract with her we tried to make some adjustments and talk to about some substitutions for alcohol and she was insistent that there would not be any substitutions (at least not without an "up charge"). We had talked to Navjot the owner of Chutney Masala (who by the way was extremely kind and accommodating ) as they do the Indian catering for Monteverde. They gave us a sample menu of what they do for Monteverde weddings. When we showed this to Maryellen she confusingly told us she would have to upcharge us if we included alcohol. She then said we would need to reduce the menu and showed us a new Indian menu that we never saw before (despite her knowing we wanted Indian catering and this being weeks into the process). All of this was very confusing but still we stupidly decided to move forward. Then she told us the date we wanted was no longer available as she had "realized" it. She did not respond to any of our requests for amending the contract or answer our questions, or accommodate us in any way, she simply moved on and wasted more of our time. Do not work with these people. There are better properties, better venues, staff at other venues who will treat you with respect and be much better at communicating and coordinating. Maryellen is disorganized, confused, and rude. I feel bad for whoever got the date we initially were in contract for and I am honestly glad to not have to deal with this person again. read more

We used to go here in the 1970's many times when I lived in Putnam Valley. At that time it was a mediocre at best restaurant. There were MANY more that provided far better food. The views were however spectacular. Sadly no one ever pumped the required money into this decaying venue and it shows today. It has 5 star POTENTIAL but 1 star experiences. It would be a hide a way for the rich and famouse if there were any of those left in New York State. LOL read more

I and my hubby went out there on March 16 2017 for our anniversary. Beautiful location inside and outside but the portion of our entrees are very small . We could've had went to somewhere esle and paid less but we wanted to try it out . Everyone was very nice and it wasn't really packed as well . It was beautiful inside and very clean . This was a once and a lifetime place to come and check it out sense it was so private. I wouldn't come back here it was just too expensive and our desert was extremely small. If I could give this place no stars I would. They don't even deserve 1 star. Had my wedding there in June 2017. Complete disaster. Bartender was infected with Hep A during our wedding. We found out 2 days into being on our honeymoon. Entire list of wedding guests had to be vaccinated for the virus. When questioned about why their employees didn't have a Hep A vaccination to protect themselves, Monteverde ignored us. In addition to the infected employee serving drinks at our wedding- the staff were rude, unhelpful and the worst human beings I've ever had to deal with. AC didn't work the entire time myself and the bridal party were trying to get ready in our $1,500+ bridal suites/rooms in the mansion- which the staff did nothing to fix. My bridal party had to use ice packs on my body in between photos. This doesn't even scratch the surface on how awful our experience was with this venue and I would need a week to type out every issue I had with them during the wedding planning process and on the day of. Stay away and save yourself the aggravation. read more

Absolutely perfect! This was a very, very last minute for Birthday celebration and it was well worth it! From spectacular view, very comfortable seating, to our hostess and the food, everything was just great! Drinks came out perfect on time, even got resiling that was not on the menu. The presentation of each of the dishes was great and the taste even better. Our hostess, Stephanie, was fantastic! Very positive, smiling and very helpful. She really added the extra touch to the dinner. We normally do not linger around but ended up spending 3.5 hours enjoying every minute. Highly recommend! read more

My fiance and I had made arrangements to look at Monteverde as a potential wedding venue for next fall. Several days before the appointment an article was published notifing the public about a case of hepatitis that was affliated with Monteverde. We questioned wether or not to look at the venue despite the recent bad press the restaurant had jsut received. We arrived at the venue we waited for 20 minutes outside the office we were told we would be met by Mary Ellen only to find out that she was sick. A phone call or email would have been appriciated. We were then walked around the propert by a gentleman who had limited access and knowledge about the property. All these things left a bad taste in my mouth but my fiance insisted we pursue this venue. With these reservations in mind my fiance emailed Mounteverde as quoted below "Hi Mary Ellen, My fiancée and I are very interested in your venue as the spot for our wedding but we have a few trepidations. The price of 250 not including top shelf liquor is high. My fiancée is also concerned with your recent hepatitis a scare and how it will look to our guests. Please let me know if you are willing to come down in price. Also please note we will be paying in cash and please factor that into a decreased price. Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you A****** " There response was shocking and insulting... "Hi A******! Thank you for your interest in Monteverde. However, we do not feel that Monteverde is a good fit for your wedding. Thus, we wish you all the best on your upcoming nuptials! Warmly, Mary Ellen" At first I wondered if we had insulted the restaurant or went about negotiating in the wrong way. After inquiring with several friends that work in the service industry I realized that i wasnt crazy and that Mary Ellens response was insulting and unprofessional so I decided to get in touch with the owner. I recounted my story to her and requested an apology to my fiance for Mary Ellens rude email. Four days later we havent heard from the owner or anyone at the restaurant! We initially decided to go, due to driving by and seeing a advertisement for Tapas on the terrace. Their website is really bad, so was hard to see what that actually meant. I am a little skeptical, as when we arrived the tapas turned out to be quite basic e.g.olives and wine (which also could be nice). Either way, we ended up in the porch/outdoor seating area, and the service was good (hosts and waitresses). They were accommodating to our requests Tried a cocktail that was a little average. Wine selection was good and had some reasonably priced wine. Indoor ambience felt like a slightly old hotel. Outdoor was really good, with great views. Food was good, well presented and good taste. The Chef obviously has some skill. (Keep yet up) So overall a enjoyable experience, just hard to think how you would go back, I think a more substantial tapas menu could be the trick! read more

Although we love the building and the property and views, and love the idea of a functioning restaurant, they just can't figure it out. Went there this past Friday evening. The service tries hard but brings out the wrong wine (Sauvignon Blanc instead of Cabernet ), the food is mediocre at best and completely overpriced (4 pieces of meat/ brisket $38!). You don't even have your own staff working on a big day like Mother's day? We paid $260 for 3 people and after 45 minutes, we went to speak to the manager because we were never given a menu! Went there last weekend in the freezing cold to celebrate my father's birthday. We had just ordered our food when the power went out! What any other restaurant would have considered a disaster, the staff at Monteverde were very professional and kept their calm. We were moved from the large dining room into the dining hall with the fireplace. We received extra bread, which is absolutely delicious with their housemade garlic butter, and who doesn't love extra bread! Even though half the kitchen didn't have its full power we received our food in a timely manner and it was all so delicious! Highly recommend the potato soufflé and Brussels sprouts as sides. Also the semi-freddo for dessert is to die for! I should mention the owner of Monteverde was the only other dining guest that night, so we ended up exploring the entire house. Exquisite venue with impeccable service and sinfully delicious food. I will come back again and again as frequently as I can. I started with the Duck Confit Salad and a Louisa Ludlow cocktail. For an entrée I chose the Rack of Lamb with potatoes au gratin and a dirty Grey Goose Martini. For dessert I split the ginger creme brûlée and the lemon berry trifle with my grandmother, both were phenomenal. I finished the evening with a glass of Tawny Port and a cappuccino. This was hands-down one of the best meals I have ever had in my life, and the service matched, if not exceeded, the quality of the food and atmosphere. Bartender of Monteverde's staff was infected with Hep-A while tending bar at our wedding. We were on day 1 of our honeymoon 4 days after our wedding, when we received a message from a FRIEND notifying us of the news that had been on TV. Naturally, we were embarrassed that our wedding exposed our closest friends, family and loved ones to a potentially deadly virus. We were most disappointed that no one from Monteverde had the ethical courtesy to notify us. We spent the first 4 days of our honeymoon attempting to reach all of our guests, to inform them what vaccinations were required from their specific states (over a dozen different states) health departments vaccination requirements. We thought that Monteverde would uphold the prestigious reputation that their expense $$$$ would be justified with professionalism. Instead, we experienced the "gotchya" type service from them. After our checks were cashed, they acted as if we were ghosts. Ignoring our phone calls and emails for days while we were on our honeymoon. The lack of professionalism, morality and empathy in Monteverde's reaction to the situation leaves us feeling that they simply don't care about their clients, and only their clients money. If you decide to book your wedding here be warned of being misled into lies and excuses from all Monteverde staff members. Issues we encountered on our wedding day at Monteverde include No Air Conditioning in the mansion (broken from a previous wedding and not repaired in time for ours) Monteverde staff arrived late Grounds not landscaped prior to our arrival Insufficient power supply in tent Rooms locked by staff with guests belongings left in them and again most importantly! Failure to notify any points of contact for our wedding held at Monteverde at Oldstone of the potential risk for Hep-A infection from beverages served by Bartender employed by Monteverde at Oldstone inside the mansion restaurant bar. Do NOT book your wedding here. There are plenty of other venues along the Hudson that will treat you and your guests with courtesy and respect. If you like being lied to and receiving poor service then this is your place. read more

We have been up to Monteverde several times since June, and always had a great experience! Staff was always attentive, courteous, and accommodating. (Twice we were there with a large group.). The river view is amazing, grounds and mansion are so beautiful. Food was mostly very good, a bit pricey for moderate portions (but look where you are!). I would definitely go back for special occasions or to show visitors this beautiful slice of the Hudson. read more

I was really reluctant to come here for Mother's day but my husband was so excited that I decided why not, lets try something new. I was so overwhelmed with the abundance of food and how awesome this staff was for Mother's day brunch! It was an amazing menu that has us filled to the brim, and we are eaters. The view, even in the rain was amazing. I had a later reservation, 2:30pm and would do it again in a heartbeat. Staff did not rush us out and even said if we wanted more of anything then to order and we did!!! the roast beef was amazing and biscuits to die for. My husband and I went there earlier today for Sunday brunch and were impressed all around. First of all the manager, Ray, was very gracious when we phoned with our concern of arriving late, near the end of brunch, which is over at 2 pm. He reassured us in a very warm and welcoming manner not to worry and that we would still be served when we arrived. When we did finally arrive, he greeted us in a very friendly manner although it was close to 2 pm. The hostess, Zey, greeted us as well and spoke to us about the history and charm of Monteverde, and we found her to be very personable and enthusiastic about her employment there. Matt, our server, was very pleasant, attentive, and professional. Finally, I wish to mention Christopher, who is helping there on his summer break from college. He has a friendly outgoing personality, obviously loves his job, and is an asset to the staff at the restaurant. Brunch was excellent, with a wide array of menu items as well as a choice of delicious desserts. Lastly, the view of the Hudson River and the beautiful surrounding grounds completed the wonderful experience here, and we are looking forward to coming back in the near future. My husband and I have eaten here a few times and have enjoyed the food here. I tried booking a Birthday party here for myself and 17 guests and found working with the staff here insufferable. Mary Allen, the event coordinator is not equipped to speak to people and should not be employed as a dish washer, much less an event coordinator. She tried to extort a $500 room charge for our 'special event', and when told that we did not need a private room, basically refused to help all together. I then attempted to make a regular restaurant reservation for my party and was called by the restaurant manager, Ray, who said he wanted to work with me, but would have to split my party into 2 different tables, because 1 server could not accommodate a party this large. I had asked to be put at one table and have 2 servers work with half of the group, each. This apparently is just not a concept that Ray could grasp, so alas, they will not be getting my business. Happy to hear that Monteverde is doing so well that they can turn down business, after the whole Hep A, debacle. For my taste, skip this pretentious, overpriced stuffy place with their horrible staff and go somewhere else. I hear Table 9 has a wonderful lunch menu and are really friendly and accommodating. read more

We went here for dinner last night and sat on the deck overlooking the Hudson. The grounds and view are amazing. The food, however, was even better! The bread for the table came with herb butter and was delicious. We started with the beet salad and ricotta cake appetizers which we both loved. Then we had the strip steak and the salmon entrees which were wonderful. The service was fantastic. I have worked with and at many locations in the Westchester area of New York thru-out my career and I can strongly recommend this location to all my clients (past, present, and future) and feel they have spent their money wisely!
