We held a family party here for 30 people, and everything was perfect! The food was delicious and there was plenty of it. The owner, Jon, went over and above to accommodate several of our guests's dietary issues. The staff worked with us in every detail: table setup, serving dessert,etc., and they were ALWAYS on hand when needed. Janelle oversaw the entire event and made sure that all went smoothly. Shout out to Kevin the bartender for a perfect Bloody Mary. Delicious, well prepared filet, gluten-free French toast and Eggs Benedict. I wish I could remember the names of all the staff, because I'd like to compliment each one. Carter's is our favorite place in our hometown of Beacon. There's always a great vibe. First time at Carter's, and definitely plan to return. The only reason I'm not giving five stars is I've just been once and I rarely give 5 star ratings based on a single visit. As others have written, the front is more of a bar feel, the back more of a restaurant. Having said that, during happy hour, the bar was pretty loud. If that's the vibe you're going for, request to sit out front; it's a bit more muted in the back. Once happy hour was over, it went to "Hey, how's it going" hour and the music was a bit lower and a great compliment to the meal. Tip: Portions are HUGE (check out my photos). I had the chicken pesto sandwich; my partner had the fish n chips. So you may wish to share what you order (or be psyched to have leftovers for lunch the next day!). The theme of our dinner was FRESH -- everything was delicious and flavorful; even if you're a french fries kinda person, I'd recommend getting salad as a side instead. The greens were high quality and the vinaigrette a great compliment to the main course. I also want to give 97 stars to the team that works there. Stopped in for a Sunday brunch. We were promptly seated, and the staff were welcoming and polite. We ordered the deviled eggs, blueberry pancakes, eggs Benedict, and chicken and waffles. The deviled eggs were not good. The blueberry pancakes were okay, but there very few blueberries. The chicken and waffles were also just okay, although the chicken was drenched and over saturated in their sauce. The portion was enough for two people, so half of it went to waste. The eggs Benedict were also okay, but the bacon was burned, and overall was just uninspiring. A medium bottled of Pellegrino was $11, an orange juice (not fresh squeezed) was $7, the deviled eggs were $11, 2 cups of coffee (with no spoons as "they ran out of them") were $14. Total bill was $123.xx. No alcohol. Low to mid-grade food, and just not a very overall pleasant experience. At this price point, they can do significantly better. I get they are charging the Beacon tax, but this was not what I would consider a good dining experience. 3 stars solely based on the fact nobody got sick from the food and the staff was pleasant. read more

First time with friends who love the place! Yesterday was Beacon's St. Pat's parade day so the place was teeming with parade goers. At 5 pm it was loud and welcoming. We originally sat in one place next to a very large party of loud talkers so the waiter found another location for us without asking. How thoughtful...... We were greeted by everyone, the bartender, Maitre D, waiters etc. Welcoming and fast paced. Our drink orders were take and the cocktails were creative and well made. No matter what you are in the mood for, the menu has so many eclectic options we all tried something different. Service is attentive throughout the meal and despite the crowds and chaos ( in a good way) the owner/chef came out to the table. That's when you know its special. We even ordered dessert. Big enough for 4 I must say!!! And delicious. Overall the venue was terrific but the food was the star of the evening. And a special thank you to that staff. read more

Food quality / price (value) rating 9. The atmosphere is contemporary / neo-industrial. Located in the charming and walkable town of Beacon, this place offers a well chosen menu of pub & tavern food. I had the Grilled Chicken Pesto sandwich which included a very generous portion of chicken breast on a high quality sesame baguette and included French fries and some cole slaw and pickle chips. The wife had the Paesano salad that included a good sized chicken cutlet and high quality mixed greens and a homemade dressing. We each had enough food to take home a second meal. They have a decent choice of canned and bottled beer, and a full bar. The bar seats about 10, and the front dining room has a mix of high-tops and tables. They have a nice back dining room, and a large outdoor seating area. The food was very good, and was prepared properly and presented very nicely by our dedicated wait staff, Ashlin and Janelle. The prices were fair. They have live music every Tuesday, and also on other nights occasionally. They have a good Happy Hour Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 pm. Food & Service were both outstanding! However, bill included a mandatory $20% tip and a 3% service charge for paying by CC. I normally tip 18-20% tip so I have no issue with that but the 3% CC charge was an insult! I paid over $525 for lunch for 7 people but will not return because you charged me $14 for a CC fee that every other restaurant absorbs. I will be taking family somewhere else next time! Let me cut to the chase: the food was excellent - go. We went up to Beacon to noodle around, and decided to check Carter's out for brunch. The menu looked a little bar-foodish and maybe a bit too heavy for what we were feeling. But we were hungry. We decided we'd make it work. The place, the ambiance - it had rough edges. There was a big baby shower going on in the back that we had to snake through to go to the bathroom. Our table was wobbly. There was a fly buzzing around (although our waiter apologized for it - which made it 80% better. Isht happens. Flies happen). The front dining room had a lot of unfinished stuff going on. Felt like a former bar that got quickly flipped into a restaurant. So after taking this all in and getting settled, we were looking sideways and suspciously at Carter's. The staff however - both the host / front room dude and our waiter were really solid. Friendly, good at their jobs; would have a beer with both of them. So that brought us most of the way back. But then... The. Food. The food was fantastic. Not too heavy or bar-like - not at all. The beet salad was everything you'd want - light, complex, and delightful. It's hard to explain, but the beets themselves were incredibly moisture-laden, almost like watermelon. The omelette I got was more like an egg crepe, a perfectly textured and thick circle folded over wonderfully cooked little mushrooms, very mild roasted peppers, onions, and bacon, in some sort of light sauce. It all came together in excellent harmony. And the potatoes! They came with some sort of light seemingly gravy-like sauce that was unlike anything I've experienced before, but absolutely loved. It was all so good I essentially scraped the plate. She got an heirloom tomato salad that was also near perfect. Excellent quality vegetables with a light and flavorful dressing in the greek tradition. I'd say more but I was heavily focused on my omelette. She remarked several times how much she liked it. Final cherry on top: they had an incredibly smooth "pay at your table with your phone" system. I scanned, reviewed, and paid our bill in about 10 seconds. We'll *definitely* go again. Yeah, the venue has it's rough edges. But the service and the food were so good that's really all that matters. read more

Was impressed walking into the place; nice decor. Sat at a table in front (didn't know there was seating area in the back). An employee came to our table and we asked if he was our server, he said "I could be", so we said ok... we asked for menus. He came back, took our drink order, & when he came back we asked about the blackened salmon sandwich, as I had just had a poor experience with one somewhere else. He said it was great, definitely blackened...Got our meals; the bread it was on was soggy and the blackened part of the salmon was the SKIN. Have never had blackened salmon that had the skin on it - peeled the skin off of it - it was not good. Server came back and apologized, saying the owner, who is the cook, was not in that night, so it may not have been done right. The way the meals were served did not match the decor which was pretty nice; they were served on aluminum trays, with plastic side dish plates. Deceiving on pricing and portions. Service was bad and basically called me stupid. We asked if the happy hour was still going as it was 5:45(it ends at 6:00). So, to be sure we just wanted to check. We were rudely met with a response basically asking us if we graduated high school. To make matters worse, the food was pretty bad. Mozz salad was coated in garlic and felt like it was burning my mouth. Nachos covered in gross watery cheese. To top it all off, we were charged $11 for water without being told it would cost anything. So I am going to preface this by saying I have not actually eaten their food, so this is not going to be about the quality of the food. I found the menu online and saw the raspberry espresso martini-I decided immediately that I needed to try it. I went for a date night and when we arrived the waitress told me that she could not verify my out-of-state ID herself and would have to bring it to the manager to confirm it. I am in my mid-twenties though I know I look young, so I was not particularly surprised to be carded, and her leaving with my ID was a little odd but I didn't think anything of it. The manager came out and walked to our table, then held up the ID right in my face without saying anything. He continued to stare (very much with the energy of someone looking you up and down and judging you the whole time) at me and then told me "I can't accept this," shoved the ID at me, and walked away without another word. There were no pleasantries, no explanation, and just generally made me feel like I had done something wrong for asking for a drink. The waitress came back and tried to give a bit of an explanation (apparently my ID didn't "look enough like me") and to apologize for what had happened, but the whole interaction left such a bad taste in my mouth that we immediately left without ordering. I've since looked it up and found that apparently that not taking out-of-state IDs is something that some restaurants in NY do, and I wouldn't have been upset if the manager had even attempted to be polite or explain. This is the first time I've ever left a yelp review-I've never been tempted for any other business-but I have never had an experience that made me feel so upset or uncomfortable. I'm not a person who ever really gets angry or holds grudges, which I hope can give some insight into how unpleasant the whole interaction was for me. read more

THIS IS NOT A HOTEL. This is a restaurant/bar that has some bedrooms upstairs. Like a cross between an Inn and an Air BnB. But without the hospitality of an Inn or the autonomy/self service facilities of an Air BnB. There is no service of any kind and no hotel amenities. There is no reception or front desk (check in is done at a table in the restaurant) so if you want to be out later than 11:30pm you need to call someone on their cell to let you back in to the property. There is obviously No room service (or even an in room phone). Sure there's a mini fridge, but there's nothing in it. The description states "complimentary bottled water" but there was none to be seen, there wasnt even a glass for tap water. The rooms are fine, if kinda bare, and while recently renovated the finishes were not great - everything was a little off, like the door to the mini fridge, which scraped on the floor and could be opened until you moved the floor rug. Or the electronic lock pad on the bedroom door that had been fitted at a crooked angle. for the decor think high end student residence. Our "queen" Room had a double, not queen, bed in it. The bed itself was very soft, but did not have feather comforters or pillows (I guess great if you have allergies?). And the sheets were 100% polyester. Not sure how that constitutes "luxury" as the hotel description states... One major issue for me - the windows were not fitted well and as a result there was a constant stream of cold air coming in, which in feb in NY state was FREEZING. And meant we needed to keep the heating running the whole time - which was in turn SUPER noisy (added to the general street noise which wasn't muffled at ALL). There are no common areas aside from the bar/restaurant. It's just not a hotel. Which would be FINE if it billed itself as an Inn or a hostel, But they sure as hell charge hotel prices! We left a night early and cut our losses on the cost of the extra night read more
