Why is Hudson News our only option at Airports!? Freaking LAX! They have self check out which is nice and convenient. I feel like these stores aren't usually busy so not sure how necessary self check out was. But it's here and so that's a good thing for fast & easy checkout. I dislike lines and usually end up at Hudson News to avoid a sprawling line at Starbucks or McD's. Their prices are expensive but they have a wide array of drinks and snacks, a few gifts like See's Candies you can bring to others. They don't have a lot of coffee drink options though which will never cease to surprise me. And when you check out your coffee drinks, prepare for sticker shock. I only had one day in Las Vegas. I had no car and no time to really shop. Of course, I had time at the airport... It was my last chance in Vegas, so I took it and am quite happy about it... Why? I got my Vegas Golden Knights souvenirs! Yes, the prices may not be the best, but when your team made it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs in their first year as a professional hockey team... well... you can't put a price on that! So... I got a cap! I usually wear a visor, but for the VGK, I will wear a cap! And...I got a lanyard and a towel (I didn't see these at any other store on previous trips to Las Vegas). AND...I got a Western Division Champions shirt... cool, huh? My coworkers got theirs online, but I feel like my shirt is more authentic because it came from Las Vegas... haha! read more

Places like this can entertain me to no end. Recently I ended up talking to the two ladies working here. They're awesome people with a great attitude in life. They appreciate the fact that they have a job and they not even for a moment complain about small things. Perfect example of a no monku people! They basically carry things that you otherwise do not need if you're occupied. Except that bottle of water that everyone needs after the TSA line. Quite a wide selection of reading materials and the requisite variety of gums. I was thinking some people should be mandated to buy tons of breath fresheners before they board the plane and this place should provide it for them on an emergency basis! **stinkers**! read more

Great googamooga - do they hose you here, or what?!? While waiting for my mom's flight to arrive, my stomach was grumbling due to the 2 hour drive we had from San Diego. Given how I didn't want to pay $12-$15 for a sandwich at the nearby bistro, I found myself going to Hudson News. It's appreciated for having a cell phone charging station (which at the time of this review wasn't working), as well as various magazines and newspapers (and some gifts for incoming passengers), and the only place at the arrival terminal where passengers can buy some water post-flight. However, paying $9 for a Diet Dr. Pepper, a bag of Combos, and a Snickers - when I can get them for half price on the outside - is a bit of a crime. Always crowded due to a lack of restaurants and being close to the gates. There is usually a bit of a line to pay, but the employees are friendly and it moves quickly. Its expensive, but you are in an airport so that is how it goes........ read more

Rice Crackers that make your breath stink.... check An array of gum - so you can mask your rice cracker breath... check Trashy Magazines and Sudoku Puzzles to keep you busy on the flight and to help down out the sounds of the baby crying because you need to focus... priceless. Typical newsstand at an airport. Prices very high. However, the girl that helped (Liseth) on 9/1/14 at was very friendly. The man in front of me told her to 'keep the change'...which was more than just change, there were several dollars as well. She told him it was too much for her to take, and insisted he take the dollars. You don't find many employees that will do that. She deserves kudos for her honesty and integrity. read more

Okay, the clerks are so rude and disrespectfull. There are two filipinas here who put my 5 months pregnant wife through stress. And the cashier named "nelly" who was clueless of the situation threatened to call the cops on us, i told her to go ahead. First of all we are customers here, we dropped our dad off to asiana airlines and due to early arrival me, my wife and the kids got hungry and wanted to buy snacks. My wife accidently tippd a bottle of water or something while getting a hold of my daughter, one of the clerk who spoke in the same language we do kept saying something rude to my wife and insister to neglect our child to take care of the fallen bottle. The folks at these stores are such a treat to chat with. They realize you might be a little grumplestiltskins from a long trip, and they seem to be really interested in your next destination. The young cashier lady was really cool too. I don't want to sound like a scrooge and state the obvious, but I will. Everything is overpriced. It's not like I wasn't expecting that, since everything in American airports seem to be priced at least double of what you pay in regular stores but... Didn't see myself spending more than $3 on a regular bottle of water... But what can you do, thanks to TSA laws world wide, one has no choice but to buy bottled beverages after the security check point... *le sigh* And there's really no other choices in this particular terminal at LAX. Or rather, LAX lacks in last-minute-stores in general. Quite frankly one of the worst airports to travel from, in my honest opinion. On top of that, this place lacks in choices in beverages. The One and Only Time Racism Worked In My Favor Hudson News is what it is: an overpriced airport book/news store. However, my experience today was one in the unexpected benefits of racism. So I thought I'd post. Went into the store to get some water. Walked up to the refrigerator directly. Then noticed that, despite there being numerous white customers in the store (at the time I was the only Black one) one of the store clerks (an older Asian woman) was immediately at my side, inexplicably with no offer of help. What's more, she didn't even feign being busy with some menial task, the usual m.o. of store shadows. Nonplussed, I grabbed my water and headed to join the 11 person line (of white people) at the register. I'd just about reached the line when my new friend yelled at me that she could ring me up at the second register. Several passengers in line turned to look and seemed to be about to bolt over, but I was already there, having just been invited to cut in line! Giving them one star. While getting to cut in line was swell, the reason remains distasteful. read more

It is what it is.... Yes you will pay full cover price for that magazine. Stick with a newspaper for a lower price point. If you really want to annoy them, just stand there and read as many magazines from cover to cover as you want (and then don't buy one). Good place for a last minute pack of gum or a $3 bottle of water to replace the one they made you throw out 5 minutes ago when you went through security. read more

This place fills a much needed niche for the modern air traveler: supplying bottled beverages (no longer allowed past security), snacks (no longer provided in-flight), printed reading materials (not everyone has a Kindle), and even last minute souvenirs. The prices here, however, are outrageous compared to the same goods outside of the airport-- and it just pisses me off no end that once you're through the TSA screening you have no choice but to pay the markup or suffer without for the next several hours. One thing in particular really irritates me: water. Every time I've stopped in one of these places it seems that just about every customer is buying a brand new bottle of water-- because, of course, they weren't allowed to bring water through security. Travelers ARE allowed to bring EMPTY bottles through though: so how about installing a filtered water filling station at these airport Kwik-E-Marts?? Sure, you can fill up a bottle at the drinking fountain or restroom faucet (this is what I do nearly every time I fly) but I know that many people don't trust the cleanliness of such facilities or just don't like the taste of tap water. How cool (and "green") would it be, then, if one were able to fill up a reusable bottle with cold, filtered water here for 25 to 50 cents? I know, it'll probably never happen as long as places like this can sell individual bottles of water for $2.50 - $6.00. And that's why this place sucks. read more
