They will instant approve you and have you open an account, make your co-signer also open an account (like, why?) and then after an hour when they are on the very last question (and they have all of your info and two new accounts) they will rug you, and refuse to call you back to help you close the account they fraudulently forced you to open. Leased my car with them and at the end of the lease they took 1 month to pick up my car! Had to leave it in my driveway and couldn't move it for the full month! Made me take off of work and never showed up to pick it up the first time. They keep putting the blame on all the 3rd party companies; pick up, cula. Have spoke to them no less than 10 times about paying the Dispo fee, but they refuse to take a credit card and now sent it to collections despite me calling in numerous times to pay. They were really good years ago, but have gone downhill fast. 1. I was issued a check from an IRA that i got thru their business and they took over a week to clear it. I got the IRA thru this circus and now they don't know if it is real? Trust issues? 2. The ATM is now screwed up. Fast cash is issuing $50 bills. Easily the most incompetent business I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. 1. They called me multiple times out of the blue but refused to disclose why without "identifying" me. 2. They entered my birthday into their system wrong, so they weren't able to "identify" me over the phone. 3. When I tried to refinance with another credit union, to put an end to these harassment calls, they continued to be difficult about identifying me. 4. Finally they offered to correct my birthday if I emailed them a scan of my license, which I did. 5. Literally one business day later, they sent an email notifying me that they would repossess my vehicle due to late payment (turns out, they LOST my banking info form which I filled out at the dealership). when you call the bank customer service number you get a maize to go through with a bott . very hard to get a human for customer service and when you finally get through it takes 10 min for a human to pick up the call. i have been a member of this bank since the 1970's. i have noticed this bank has gone down hill. be careful because they never told me about the premier savings account . when i opened the premier i left money in my tiered money market and they never told me they were going to charge me $10.00 for a balance lower than $1000.00. service is below standards. the customer service rep guided me through all of this. i guess they needed the $10.00. read more

We made sure we covered the car with insurance, that incase anything happened like death, the car would be secure and fully owned. I'm exhausted. I've had an account with this bank for like, 6 years now. For the last few months every single month on the 1st, they block my card. Every representative gives a different reason. They keep me on the phone for an hour and come up with a reason, assure me it's fixed, and then it happens again the next month. This morning I had two separate calls where two representatives gave me two completely different reasons I couldn't access my own funds. DO NOT BANK WITH THEM. They canceled my Visa Card and didn't let me know. Due a drop in my credit score, HVCU decided to cancel my HVCU Visa card. Okay, that is their right to do (by the way, I have never been late with a payment for this card). The problem is they neglected to tell me this in a timely manner. I only found out about the cancellation due to an automatic payment that failed to go through. I finally did receive written notification in the mail ELEVEN days later. All they had to do was send me an email, something like "There's been a change to your Visa credit card account. Please contact HVCU for more information," but for whatever reason, chose not to. How could they not think prompt notification about something like this would be important?? Thank goodness I wasn't dependent on this card for anything. This is unacceptable and 30+ years of trust I had for this institution is now gone. I will now be actively looking for other places to put the bulk of my money. read more

The loan process with them is overly complicated because they constantly change the requirements. I was told they couldn't send my check out to PO box because it had to be overnighted, that's fine I received a new mailing address and gave to the loan officer. I've been a member here since it was the IBMEFCU. Now it's the HVCU - they should have left the F in for "eff you". I understand mistakes are made financial institutions and I try to resolve them w CS. But, for the past 2 years, CS has basically been rude. And I mean condescendingly and blatantly rude. You ask questions and they speak to you as if you're a moron. (For example: In order to login online, after the transition from HVFCU to HVCU, they had a new electronic 10 page agreement you had to approve. (See photo) When I contacted the CU regarding withdrawing of online services, I was told it wasn't happening now. So, I asked when. CS said "in the future". When is the future? The future could be tomr or next week. The date hasn't been set. Well, is there a date in mind? No. If that's the case, why have this as a condition in order to gain access now? CS next said if there was anything else she could help me with for excellent service. Clearly, the conversation was over because either she had no answers or was just tired of me asking questions about online banking services that could be withdrawn if I didn't agree. Now, when you call the contact center, they ask for your #'s, your password and that should gain you access to your info. Until...they wanted your SS#. Honestly, you have to balk at giving someone your SS#. I said no. I thought the password was sufficient. CS said no access. I told him I would not give him my SS# and he had no reason to ask me for it. It's not done. He refused to give me access, I refused him my SS#. I told him Since I can't gain access to my account because you feel the need to be a cretin about it...I hung up on him. OK, onto the next one. I requested a new card. 10 days had lapse and I contacted the call center. I asked if it was mailed, CS responded with "as you are aware, we have no control over the postal service". I asked what does that have to do with my question "WAS IT MAILED?" - It requires a yes or no answer. Again, he proceeded to tell me about the postal service and their procedures. Like I GAF. I spoke slowly this time w a s i t m a i l e d? And before he started to bore me stupid with facts of the postal service, I said it's a simple question, yes or no and if you cannot manage that, please hang up. He managed the word y e s. The next CS rep I spoke to couldn't be bothered. She was barely gave me an explanation of what happened before she said "is there anything else I could do to provide you w excellent service?" Yes, be a better CSR. This is just the tip of CSR. There's more but, why bother. They don't do anything. Or they haven't in a couple of years. Before anyone believes, I need them to kiss my ass, I don't. I expect them to give the same amount of courtesy I give them. I think it's time to find another CU. read more

Not a customer, but this business allowed someone else to open an account using my information. Only way I found out was when I got sent letters and inquired about what the letters were about and where the bank is located. They refused to freeze or close the account despite me telling them it was not me. Required proof it was fraudulent but then would not release any documents about the account. Would not tell me anything about how many transactions occurred or anything. When the police got involved, the bank refused to provide them any information or documents. I sent a fraud affidavit on 1/25/24 and received confirmation of receipt. A week later I received correspondence that they were still waiting on my affidavit. I re-sent the original email on 2/2/2024 and just now received confirmation that the account was closed AFTER I sent the affidavit again. They are horrendous with doing due diligence as the account should have never been open. They do not cooperate with victims or the police when identity theft is involved. They should be looked into and denied to be insured by the NCUA. Do not recommend this bank! They are horrible and encourage fraudulent behavior ! read more

I've been with hvfcu for years. The past few months have been rough financially. I understand that hvfcu is a business, but the fees that they apply to everything have gotten ridiculous. Simple transactions, like paying a credit card you get through their company and their app take literal days to post. Then they add late fees, even if you put the transaction through a day or so beforehand. I've even gotten fees for paying my CC bill a week in advanced, apparently that counts as missing a payment. Sure you can call the branch and maybe they'll help you out, if they feel like it that day. And don't try to fund another account through them, your money will be lost and you will be charged a fee. I won't recommend this bank to anyone, and will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Back in 2019 , I had to file for bankruptcy, since then I've portrayed good standings with other banks and credit cards. I really wanted to become a member again at HVFCU but the guy I spoke to (which might I add was extremely rude and not sympathetic) stated I have to pay the balance off that happened 5 years ago that the bankruptcy took care off in order for me to return as a member. I have been using the HVFCU since the early 2000's and have had nothing but great experiences. This review of the main branch is for the customer service of the entire HVFCU chain. Recently, I was alerted that my HVFCU Direct account had been locked because someone made too many password attempts. I contacted Customer Service and was greeted by a friendly lady who took the time to explain everything to me. Even though I called from my registered phone number, she went through an entire series of security precautions to verify that she was speaking with me, due to the nature of the incident. I appreciate HVFCU's protocol that she was following, since it is designed to keep my money safe from hackers. Although I didn't catch her name, she was friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and took the time to tell me about some changes that will be occurring in the future. She resolved the problem quickly and I continued about my day. This wasn't the first time I've called HVFCU customer service. I've called many times over the past 15 years (appx), and every time I was greeted by friendly representatives just like her. Every one of them has been professional and takes their time to make sure any problems are thoroughly resolved. Throughout the branches, the management clearly takes customer service and security seriously. The ATMs are constantly being updated with newer, more high-tech systems, making the screens much easier to use and various new steps to protect the ATM cards. I realize that everyone will have a bad experience with any bank or credit union at some time in their lives, hence some of the previous reviews on this page. However, I've dealt with my fair share of financial institutions and this is one of the most professional I've experienced. In addition, many financial institutions only care about their business accounts and put their personal account customers on the back burner. HVFCU seems to treat every personal account holder like they're their most important customer. read more

I am absolutely floored as I was turned away yesterday from getting 2 rolls of quarters for an elderly gentleman who lives in the area. I was told to call Collections. Turns out, an old savings account was deemed insufficient funds and marked as a charge off. While going to Nursing school I had asked the branch manager to assist me with a lower payment and once I get a full time job, Ill resume HUGE payments and they can be taken out automatically. Well, that didnt happen, as I got my unemployment checks, this bank, took out HUGE payments of $600 or more. I was also told by Collections, they can take any money from any account as long as the credit card payment amount is satisfied. The Branch Manager was unable to assist me and suggests I go to another credit union, which I did. Much happier. Imagine being turned away to get quarters and the clerk at the counter is allowed to says such things right at the counter. Also, the credit card payment has been agreed upon and payments made, without missing a payment, ever. SO, this credit union, who lost the federacy, wants to take such a position while serving the community. I am also a customer for a loan, paid on time, every time and yet I am told I am no longer able to conduct business here. I am at another Credit union and clerks there know my name and greet me in a manner most familiar like family. I say ditch HVCU and go with a real credit union who prides themselves with helping the community. You wont be sorry you changed Credit Unions, in fact, you will be happy you read this review. We are beginning the process of closing all accounts with this bank. All savings, checking, credit cards, and a car loan. The customer service has completely tanked in the last couple years. Sometimes they help, sometimes they don't. More often than not, they are rude and talk to the customer like they're dumb. No one takes responsibility for miscommunications or failing to do what they said they would. I've called multiple times to resolve different things- one was a savings account that they never updated my address for (even though for some reason ALL my other accounts were correct) and they've continued to charge me sometimes $2, sometimes $4, every month. When I've asked their online help they tell me to call then when I call no one has actually updated to the correct address. So yesterday I tried again with the chat and the person said "oh you never gave us that address but I'll fix it for you." ARE YOU KIDDING ME I GAVE YOU GUYS THE ADDRESS COUNTLESS TIMES IN THE LAST 2 YEARS. This is why using the chat is so important, as customers we need to be able to keep records of how we are treated. It's no surprise their online reps just shut down and tell you you need to call for help; they don't want a record of how rude and unhelpful they are. Also all their fees make them pointless to use when you consider how shoddy the service is. At least with capital one, I know what I've got myself into and their reps are friendlier. HVCU charges insurance on everything and the fees go into a separate account that accrues interest. So at the end of the day you're paying fees on top of insurance and getting charged interest on that. Paying $300/month on a card with a 5k balance and not a dent in my balance has been made. For anyone else frustrated, I was able to easily join MHVFCU, all online! No covid risks (which HVCU has had constant exposure warnings for their branches), not one phone call had to be made, nor did I have to chat with anyone. In a matter of hours I accomplished opening a new checking with 3 savings and a credit card. Hoping MHV is what HVCU used to be. read more

Was looking for a mortgage and wound up working with Thomas Henry who is suppodily a "senior" mortgage loan officer. Do not use him. If your application gets assigned to him, request someone else. I would go over a weeks without hearing from him. He would ask the same questions over and over again. He never requested documentation - including my income based repayment letter for my student loans. He said they use the 1% payment rule which is standard. I told him I had this letter stating my payment was much lower than the 1%. He didn't even want to see it. He didn't care that I was still in school. Both of these have been taken into account by other banks last year when I first started looking (had to pause for life changes). Last year I was qualified for a mortage from Ulster Savings when I was making aobut 35% less than I'm making now. And HVCU couldn't seem to find anything for me. I went back to Ulser Savings with Jack Fanning who is far supior. read more

Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union is back to its old tricks again. I was positive in my account with three small pending transactions. I transferred funds to my savings to ensure the transactions would be covered! What did HVFCU do? They charged me a privilege fee while I had positive funds in my account and then sent the other small transactions through with $34 privilege fees! This is by far the worse bank I've EVER been associated with! It used to be a great bank, but recently, I guess they're under new management and they are sum shit! Charge me privilege fees when I go negative! Don't charge me a privilege fee to make me go negative, then push small transactions through! I got charge 3 privilege fees for nothing, because I had the funds to pay for the transactions! I would advise anyone not to fuk with these crooks!
