Both were friendly, helpful and spent a moment chatting despite being busy. Our server, on the other hand, acted confused and overwhelmed. She was dressed more like a greeter/hostess, so maybe she really was out of her element? The food is yummy and the portions are super generous. The fries were a wedge-spiral hybrid, different than the usual. There was a great special on $4 margaritas which Smokin'Hubster enjoyed thoroughly. Nostalgically decorated restaurant located in front of the Comfort Suites hotel. There is a shared parking lot so parking can be limited. I ordered a pick-up lunch order over the phone because I wanted to pay with cash and that option was not available online. I ordered the TJ taxi wrap and ordered it without the cheese. The restaurant employee stated it doesn't come with cheese although queso cheese was specified in the description. I said please just make sure there is no cheese. She basically made me feel as if I didn't know what I was ordering and I was truly unsure of what I would be picking up. Upon pick up I was directed to the back counter where I stood waiting for someone to acknowledge me even though there were three team members in the immediate area. Once acknowledged I stated I was there to pick up a TJ Taxi with no cheese and fries. This was repeated to the kitchen and I waited about 5minutes more before given my food. After a long day of traveling we decided to get take out from this restaurant that was in our hotel parking lot, so glad we did. Hubby said catfish dinner was very good and French fries were the best, packed well and was hot. I got the mushroom Swiss burger and fries and this was super great bun was so good, almost like a brioche type, super soft and toasted with butter on the grill, meat patty was at least 1/2" thick covering the WHOLE bun done to perfection with slight pink and char kiss from the grill. The best part of my meal was the coke. Waitresses take forever, staff kind of just sits around, waitress didn't write any of the order down, and when the food came, it was wrong as expected. In terms of food, burger was bland, smelled off, and none of it was hot. Egg was doused in Cajun seasoning (I didn't ask for Cajun anything) and was also dark from the oil it was fried in. We told the waitress about the problems with our food, she said "sorry" and walked away, came back and basically threw our check at us. I have no complaints once so ever. The food was phenomenal. I'm a picky eater and a foodie so we're always looking for easy going, well made, quality food. We ordered take out and the food was still hot when we got to our hotel. Hudson's hit all the marks for us. My husband had the fried perch and chips. He said it was some of the best he'd ever had. First the good part. The french fries were OK. My wife and I both ordered the whitefish with lemon pepper "sauce." The fish was not properly filleted and it was overcooked and dry and flavorless. Not much by way of lemon pepper. For a restaurant on the shore of Lake Superior to screw up whitefish is worse than bad. Next, the broccoli was just boiled -- no butter or sauce, and the breadstick likweise -- just a placeholder -- no butter and not very hot. Finally, the margarita was overly sour. They don't even know how to cut the lemon wedges -- they make into half-moon slices that are impossible to squeeze -- a little detail but it shows the overall lowness of level. Service was minimal. First we waited at least 2 minutes to be seated and only after I got the attention of an employee in back near the kitchen. was seated & waited for our server after we had plenty of time to review the menu. The server stated "Oh, you know what you want already?" The menu is kinda simple. My husband & I shared a meal and got an order of onion rings, which was the best part of the meal. No appetizer plate when the onion rings were delivered. We asked for small plates. Then the entree arrived and again, we asked for plates & extra napkins. We received 1 plate. The coleslaw was old and sour. Suddently the server arrived with our ticket and stated something that sounded like a foreign language and we could not understand her. Necer asked if we would like more water, how was the meal...nothing. Absolutely poor service. The person should not be employed as a server, waitress, should not be working with customers at all. This place is awesome. Very cool decor with vintage auto industry tone. It's just off the highway in hotel row, with plenty of parking or an easy walk from several hotels. Varied menu including several sea food dishes, steaks, burgers, various sandwiches, salads and several specialities. Healthy menu too. Full bar, and the Margarita special was great. We had the cod and whitefish filet. Very good and both plate-fulls to be sure. Service was prompt, very efficient and friendly. Amber is awesome! Overall well done. Check it out. read more

The service here was the worst I'd ever had. We ordered a sandwich without one of the toppings (guac). The sandwich came & we noticed the sandwich had guacamole on. After looking for our waitress for 10 minutes, we managed to flag down a manager. They promptly apologized & took it back to the kitchen. When our waitress appeared another 10 minutes later, she handed the sandwich back. It was the same sandwich & they just scraped the guacamole off of it!!! When we brought this up to the manager, they were rude & said they won't make us another sandwich, they'll just comp the sandwich. What if we had a food allergy? It just happens to be my Birthday so l had decided to treat myself to one of their yummy milkshakes after a delicious chef salad. Great place for classic American food at a decent price. Their burgers and fish fry Fridays are always great. The waitstaff is fun and helpful. Lots of parking too. The only issue I had was that when I went there last, the kitchen staff seemed really rowdy which was a bit off-putting and distracting when dining in. This review amounts to 3 stars for food and 1 star for service. We were a party of 4 and were seated within 3 minutes. Drinks (fountain sodas) took about 10 minutes and food took about 40 minutes to come even though the restaurant was only 1/4 full. I ordered iced tea and it was gross. There was a dirty funk to it and the server blamed it on the brand (Fuse) but I think the cup or dispenser were dirty. The server did not check back and was pretty careless of our party. My kids enjoyed their quesadilla and cheeseburger and my wife enjoyed the French dip with cheese curds. I had the whitefish basket with tater tots and it was mediocre and the fish overcooked. It's a shame because the restaurant is located less than 5 miles from Lake Superior. Oh well. Our bill was supposed to be discounted 10% as we were staying in the Days Inn which is attached but we did not get it and I needed to move on. We will not be back. read more

The only reason I am giving two stars is because of amazing service from our waitress, Heaven. We were staying in a hotel directly across the street, and decided to try this restaurant. The wait was 45 minutes which would be understandable if they were very good and therefore popular, but they had many empty booths and would not seat anyone. I asked twice how long the wait would be, but when I got five minutes both times and resorted to looking on the list. There was one family ahead of us, who walked in after us and had a much larger party. The food was mediocre at best, the fries were good, but the burger tasted like there was mold on the bun. The service was ok once we were seated, and I would honestly recommend McDonald's over this place. Normally I will eat whatever is put in front of me no problem and I downloaded Yelp specifically because I have never had worse food. read more

We came in with a party of 2 and the seat we got had us facing a giant mess behind their check in desk. The hostess gave a second choice of looking at the kitchen mess. When I asked if we could have one of the seats that did not face messes (in the main areas) the hostess and manager said they do not allow parties of less than 4 to sit in those nicer areas. We we're about to leave and the bartender said that was ridiculous and sat us at a nice table and they had plenty empty across the restaurant as it wasn't busy but then the manager came over and was angry and said we needed to leave as she was angry that we were sat in the nicer area with only a party of 2. We damn near depleted their stock of cheese curds they were so good. We stayed at a nearby hotel where we could walk to Hudson's and get a discount to boot. Three visits in as many days and we would go back again. Service was a little slow during off peak hours but I can't be mad about that at all as the staff were always friendly and cordial. Prices were pretty good. A little bit of day drinking here with some food cost us about 2/3 of what we would pay at our watering hole downstate. We have no reason not to return! read more
