    Cheeseburger deluxe and onion rings.

There may be busier bars in town but if you want a burger and beer you'll be hard pressed to find one much better. It's nothing fancy and doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is- just a great place to sit, chill, maybe shoot some pool, and enjoy a burger and a beer or two. I come to Marquette every few months and when I'm not here I crave it. Come to Pats's Bar as you are, grab a seat at the bar, slow down, and enjoy one of the juiciest (slightly greasy in all the best ways) and most delicious burgers of your life.

Always stop here when home in Marquette to grab a burger and a beer. Fresh. Hot. Homemade. And all at bargain prices!

Yummy! The best burger and fries in Marquette. The simple kind. Nothing fancy but handmade patties and fresh cut fries.

Made the choice to visit as soon as we saw it!

My friends, you're looking at this all wrong. From previous reviews, I get the feeling that people are looking for "Cocktails and Dreams," when they come in. The proverbial "Diamond in the Rough." Well, I've been to those places. Every city has them, and by-and-large, they're all the same. And you know what? I'll take Pat's over every one of them any day of the week. We chose to come in based entirely on its outside appearance. "Now THAT'S a local bar!" If you want to really experience the local flavor of a place, you can't do it any better than to come in to a place like Pat's and sit down and talk to people. Some people might consider it a "Dive Bar," and if that conjures images of a dark room with cockroaches and a sticky countertop, you're way off base. But if you're picturing a place that has been around for decades, is well-established, and isn't trying to fit the mold of every other pop-up tavern to hit the market, you've hit the nail on the head. We felt instantly comfortable and welcome here. The friendly bartender was finishing up a to-go burger order for a customer as we came in, but she immediately greeted us and said we could sit anywhere. She listed the bottled beers for us from memory, and the selection was pretty big, but we were happy to take a couple shells of Miller High Life from the tap (Shout-out to my Bay City peeps--you know what I mean by shells). The other draught choice was Miller Lite. Couple that with a couple shots of peppermint schnapps ($2.75--the bottles have the prices clearly listed on each of them! How cool is that?) and we were off to a good start. Overall impressions: the bar was nice and clean! We liked the way the place was set up, cozy, but not crowded. The lighting was perfect, not too dark, nor too bright. There were a couple of nice TVs, Keno, and Free (yes, you read that right) Pool. From my understanding, the cursing prohibition has been relaxed, but we didn't test the waters on that one. The bathrooms were OLD but really kind of cool. I think the floor tiles had been laid in the 40s or so, but that's what made them cool. Yes, it could be considered dingy in there, but if I were Bill Murray, or Kid Rock instead of myself, I'd still happily use the facilities at Pat's. Maybe not if I were Justin Beiber, but I see that as a win-win. So a few pointers for you when you go. --The bartender is likely doing it ALL while you're there. Bartender, cook, cashier, waitress, Keno rep, etc. She's working her tail off to make sure everyone gets what they need. Try to remember that! --Play the jukebox! If you do, be sure to spend a quarter on "The Biggest Parakeets in Town." Seriously. That needs to be the theme song at Pat's. And someone needs to sell T-Shirts. And last, but not least, --867-5309 (Jenny). You know what I'm talking about! Take a chance on Pat's Bar my friends. I travel all over the country, and it's places like this that make the most memories. See you there!

We prefer bar service over dining service, seem to be generally more attentive and the two staff work as a team. Brandon is waiting on us. He's friendly and good at customer service. Ordered the whitefish dip, baba Ghanouj, superior whitefish tater tots, tabouli salad, superior whitefish chowder, superior whitefish tacos with black pepper fries and a spicy crispy chicken sandwich and cabbage slaw. $111 They do charge a 4% transparency fund: employee retention, living wages, staff happiness. Written on the bottom of your bill. The dishes are scratch made, in house. Nice! The tabouli is too, has some mixed greens in it. There is something sweet in the dressing or the buckwheat, not my thing at all. Rest of the salad is good though. The baba ghanouj on its own is quite garlicky, slight Smokey flavor to it. It doesn't work with the pita crackers. Not loving this at all. The whitish dip is good. My hubby liked the sweet pickled for watermelon rind garnish, I didn't like them much. The spicy chicken sandwich on the brioche bun is really good. The chicken is super crispy. It's quite good. The whitish tacos are good. The whitefish seems to be blackened, really nicely. The fish is light and perfectly cooked. The whitefish chowder is so good! The tater tots are so delicious. No slouch here. Crunchy and so yummy! Food was so unique and quiet food. The side pepper fries are and slaw ate both a bit blah, compared to the majority of our flavorful meals Service is top notch.

We rarely sit outside but this patio beckoned and we were helpless to resist. There's even outdoor seating available if you arrive before the restaurant is open! Silas brought us menus and took drink orders right away. We enjoyed the season's first shandies while exploring the menu. His attention was perfect and we shared some laughs each time he returned to our table. Neither one of us wanted to share (I guess) so we each ordered our own appetizers. I can never get enough smoked whitefish spread... until it's ALL MINE! I enjoyed every bite and would do it again. Patrick ordered the walleye strips and he did offer me a bite (generous devil that he is). They were perfectly crisp without being heavy or greasy. If I had known that... nah, I'd still get the whitefish. We'll be back to visit The Portside and try more menu items. Who knows, maybe we'll split something next time?

Unfortunately tonight I didn't get here early enough so I sat out by the bar, which is absolutely fine. I started with a French onion soup, which I normally do when I'm here, tonight it was a little less oniony than it usually is, but that just could simply be a function of whoever was ladling it up. It's still absolutely delicious. For dinner, I had the chicken piccata with a baked potato and steamed green beans. The steamed green beans are a staple while there are a variety of other sides, such as onion rings or Alfredo, etc. I was a little disappointed in the piccata this time. It was less lemony and more oily than I remember. The lemon wedge helped, but I don't think that piccata would have to need additional lemon to the sauce. The green beans also a little heavy on the butter as was the baked potato. I don't want to say that the meal wasn't flavorful, because it was and my server while really busy was an absolute gem, only that it was a little heavy with the melted butter. After many excellent experiences here, this won't turn me off to coming back again and trying something else. Especially if I can get a table in the back!
