We stayed for a few nights in Mid February during the off-season so it was fairly empty when we arrived. I was worried from the reviews that this place would be super unclean but it was rather nice! The entire hotel had a very clean smell and was not musty (although it looked like it should be lol) Our first room was spotless and the air smelled so fresh. However, it had a slightly leaky bathtub faucet that we knew would keep us up at night so we requested to switch rooms. They happily obliged and we were quickly moved to the room next door with less than a 15 minute wait! This room was clearly not used in a little while so it was a bit dustier but not so much as to bother our allergies. The bathrooms were very clean and I was especially impressed with our shower. The faucet was super easy to use and understand (what is it with hotels and their confusing shower faucets?? Why are the hot and colds switched??) the water warmed INCREDIBLY quickly and the water pressure was PERFECT! (Usually hotel showers have two pressure settings; peel your skin off or lightly pee on you) My only problem with the bathroom was that there were two sinks, one in the bathroom and one outside. For some unknown reason, the hotel decided to put the hand soap dispenser next to the OUTSIDE sink so you have to turn the door handle after flushing the toilet to get to the soap. The beds and blankets were comfy, the TV worked well, my dad thought it was hysterical that they had a DVD/VCR player. It really did give off major 2005 vibes from when I was little. The one chair we had in the room was an incredibly uncomfortable office chair that my mother did not appreciate as she did not want to sit in the bed the entire time and the chairs outside were wet from the rain. The lobby is quite nice with high ceilings and chandeliers but still giving a cozy vibe. The brown leather couches and chairs are very dated but INCREDIBLY comfy. So much so that my mother, who is very picky about her chairs, fell asleep in one!! The reason we were in the lobby though is the reason I subtracted one star. The Wi-Fi is incredibly spotty and often falls in and out. I know I know if you're in a state park you shouldn't bring electronics but some of us like to stay connected. If you stay here, expect to go to the lobby to be on your devices or bring a book. Overall the stay was nice. I'm interested in going back during the main season to see what the quality is like but I'd give this experience 3+1/2 stars Also a special shout-out to the gift shop!! The shopkeeper Gail (I may be spelling her name wrong) is lovely and makes her own art and sells a little bit of it with all the other cute stuff in there! She is an incredibly talented painter and I hope she adds more of her items to the store so my family can buy them when we come back! read more

Charming place to stay. Came here during the off season and it was very quiet with some of the amenities closed off. However it was a peaceful and enjoyable stay. One negative is that there were several spider webs on the balcony and some of the light fixtures in the room. They need to pay attention to these while cleaning. read more

Nope. Don't do it. This place is extremely outdated and old. Shower was gross, furniture is old and cracked, and the walls are like paper. My balcony had a lovely view of the lake and a giant dumpster. I woke up to very loud drilling and hammering. I called the front desk and said she couldn't do anything about it (they were doing construction in the room below me). It was 8:30am, so I responded with...are you serious? Said she would have to call her DM. They got the drilling to stop until 10:00am. They didn't. They started back up at 9:00am and I continues to hear loud drilling and hammering until I checked out. Even awake, a paid guest should not have to tolerate that. They didn't mention construction on the website. I didn't pay to view a construction site or hear one. Why would you put me in a room with construction on the floor under me? Save your money - unless you are ok with an older run down "resort" - then again I only paid $100/night to stay and I see why! read more

Old. State lodge that needs total updated. My bathroom fixtures were a nightmare. Not really made for handicapped. You have to walk forever for an elevator. Highlight was the restaurant. Friendly service and good food. Park offers a lot for families. Beautiful lake. read more

The place is currently under major construction, which I accept. The windows were covered in dirt and cobwebs and it smelled a bit musty. What I cannot accept is the utter filthiness of the place. When we lifted up the blanket to a bed, there were crumbs and stains from food. The place was obviously not cleaned well before our arrival. This is especially disconcerting in the age of the coronavirus. If the bed wasn't clean, I can only imagine what else wasn't cleaned either. There was no manager on scene to talk to the problem about. Luckily the desk clerk was professional and refunded our bill. Our anniversary is in March. We opted to spend a day at the park and an overnight at the lodge. Reservations online were so easy to do. Good senior rates were available. Check-in/out was a breeze and the front desk called to make sure everything was okay and see if we needed anything. March is hardly a busy time of year and they were able to put us in a nice room, good lake view, comfortable king size bed... The pool was so nice and warm and pool area very clean. Full service was available at the restaurant, service was good, and the meal was excellent (maple-glazed salmon). The lodge is old and shows its wear, yet was meticulously clean and inviting. The rooms have been recently renovated, and the resort is on the grounds of a very nice state park. My family has stayed at this lodge about six or seven times, and we always have a great weekend. There's a nice hiking trail and disc golf course just outside the back door. And you can walk right down to the lake and fish, if you are so inclined. Outside, you will find a playground, tables where you can have a small bonfire, and an in-ground pool. Inside, you will find a friendly staff, a bar, restaurant, an indoor pool, game room, and 90 some odd rooms. The rooms are fine, pretty standard hotel rooms. I would go ahead and skip the restaurant (unless you do the breakfast buffet). The service is slow, and the food isn't much of a value. Go into Oxford to Kona Bistro or 45 East for better options. The true strength of the resort is both its location (inside Hueston Woods State Park with excellent hiking trails and much to see and do) and the activities run by the lodge staff. With our kids, we played Sorry, made foam door hangers, clothespin butterflies, and played Bingo. All included in the price of the room. read more

Yet again, I find our gaming excursions bringing me to all sorts of new places for Yelp--this time around, we headed south for AcadeCon, hosted by a podcasting group called The RPG Academy. AcadeCon was held at the Hueston Woods Lodge and Conference Center, so Jules and I stayed right on-site during the duration. The facilities of the Hueston Woods Lodge are homey and suited to the wilderness surrounding. Large windows and decks provide fantastic vistas onto the surrounding state park. Unfortunately for us, the convention was in November--no fall foliage for us! But, the leaves notwithstanding, the view was still gorgeous. Our room was sizable, clean, and well furnished. I did wish that a king- room was available when I placed our reservation, but we were forced to settle for a standard room with two beds. Note, though, that the beds were full-sized, not queen-sized, as you'd find in most modern hotels. This made sleeping arrangements a touch cramped for us, and we ended up opting to sleep in separate beds. Oh, and the shower head was a touch weak for my taste. Not a dealbreaker by any sense, but I'm a sucker for a high-pressure head. The facilities themselves have a great many options for entertainment, especially of the outdoor variety. A sizable indoor pool was open during our chilly stay, which made for a nice diversion. In addition, the lodge features a great many alcoves, full of tables and comfortable chairs for a relaxing doze or an hour or two of reading in front of the lake. If there's one thing i could knock the Hueston Woods Lodge for, it's their food options. While they have a small coffee shop just inside the lobby and a full-service restaurant (with fairly reasonable prices, to boot), there aren't many options outside of that, unless you want to drive into Oxford proper. While it's not a far drive--about 15 minutes, all told--there's not much else around. Overall? I'm really looking forward to another few nights at Hueston Woods Lodge. AcadeCon 3 is only a year away, after all! read more

Disgusting. Asked for a pet friendly room...only cabins available. Nice cabins for people, dumpy cabins for dogs. They smell and look/feel 75 years old! Got my deposit back and outta here. Would not help with any kind of accommodation ...like extra money for cleaning if necessary, which it wouldn't be. After driving 600 miles to get here we are out of luck !!!! read more

For starters, I'm giving this review based off the season we went in, the winter. Before I talk about the rest of Hueston Woods and the surrounding area, going here in the winter is a big no go. A lot of the activities in the park are outside and definitely not for the cold months. I rented a couples cabin for a few days. When my girlfriend and I arrived we were told due to plumbing problems, we were moved to a couples cabin with a lake view for no extra charge. That was pretty cool I guess. The cabin itself seemed somewhat outdated and smaller than I imagined it would be. The heater system was pretty weird too. It would never stay on long enough to actually heat the cabin much. Also the shower got water everywhere. I had to put down a towel to keep the water from going all over the floor. As for the surrounding area, Oxford sucks... A lot. Maybe it's because I live somewhat close by, but MU doesn't have a great college town. Basically the point is, go here during the summer or early fall. You'll have a lot of enjoyment here. read more

Be prepared to go back in time. Our room had a VCR...yes a VCR. The WiFi was awful, only worked when close to the lobby. No complimentary breakfast. Many outside doors were broken. Nice big outside door to balcony, no screen so you cannot leave it open. They left two bottles of water in our room for you, if you drink them it 4$. The TV was awful, it was like 2003 when people started buying HD TVs but did not get HD cable. The ATM in the lobby did not work. The breakfast was way over priced. The staff was very nice and polite. The indoor pool was nice. They really need to put money into remodeling. Overall not worth 175$ we paid for one night stay. read more

Came here to look into possibly having a wedding in September. Rooms were nice with a mini fridge and microwave. 2 sinks with the hand soap and hand lotion mounted on the wall was nice. The shower had weak water pressure but having the shampoo, conditioner and shower gel in handy pumps mounted inside the shower was nice. The restaurant was OK at best. Breakfast started at 8 am and when we arrived at 8:30 all the servers were all around the cash register and there was only 1 other person in the restaurant. The server acted like she had better things to do than take our order and serve us. The atmosphere however made up for that. Big windows viewing the lake (I assume, it was foggy since it was December), large fireplace, comfortable chairs and high ceiling. The western omelette was delicious with generous chunks of ham, muchroom, green pepper and onions with peperjack cheese. The game room was a disappointment since only about 3 games were working. The indoor pool looked nice but we didn't go for a swim. Went there last year for a school related retreat. We left mid-night because one of our party of 40 found bed bugs in her sheets. This led to the discovery of even more. Hopefully these renovations everyone speaks so highly of came with a bed bug detox. read more
