This place is a dump! I like dive bars but the urine smell that came from the bathroom was enough to turn my stomach.

Excellent food, service, ambiance, and prices - 5 stars!…read more We didn't know what to expect. The 3 of us had pretty low expectations. But our visit was great. In the end, the three of us agreed that we definitely had a 5 star experience. We arrived at opening and we happened to be served by the owner himself - a really nice guy. He gave us a brief history of the bar, which is extensive. The Old Saloon has been around with the current name since 1975 (the building is a lot older). The current owner has been at the helm for 30 years! Obviously, he's knows what he's doing. Our food was excellent...everything from the Ellsworth Cheese Curds, the wings, the salad, the burger, the Chicago style hotdog, and the savory mac & cheese soup! Of course, since this is Wisconsin, they have a great selection of beer on tap. The prices were amazingly reasonable to. We probably would have paid double in the Twin Cities. The décor is cool too. Apparently, the owner's wife is the chief decorator and she does a great job. I particularly love the vintage and antique stuff. They have some very old and rare original neon signs, an old Schwinn Phantom, and an antique penny scale. There are a few reproductions here & there but most of it is totally original. Cool! Thanks for a great experience! Thumbs up! - Maxx

Highly recommend this place. I travel a lot and the Old Saloon is always a pleasure to visit with family, friends or just a beer to relax. Most authentic and unique restaurant/Bar in New Richmond. Just stopped by the Old Saloon. Truly the Green Dragon of this Shire. Really what a wonderful place and great food, beer and the staff and owners are gems. Highly recommend The Old Saloon Once again, stopped by the Old Saloon and it was delish. Very warm community pub.

No frills local vintage bar - 4 stars…read more I suppose many people would call this a dive bar. I feel it's more like a time machine. You walk through the front door and you take a trip back in time. This is a drinker's bar, beer and spirits only - no food at all - other than snacks like small bags of chips. McCabe's is very small, unpretentious, and friendly. The coolest thing is the drive-up liquor store. You drive up to the window and the bartender inside hears a "ding" like the old time gas stations. Actually, it really IS an old gas station bell. (Check out my photos for an inside view of the mini-liquor store.) I've been here twice. The first time was only a brief visit to check it out and to get directions. But I returned today as a customer and I was amazed that the bartender remembered my name, remembered where I was from, and remembered what I asked him the first time. Impressive! (Maybe he just remembered my ugly mug.) Overall, like most places in New Richmond, I'm struck by how friendly and respectful everyone is. This is in huge contrast to my native Minnesota. It really makes be question the whole "Minnesota Nice" thing. It might really be "Wisconsin Nice". I'd come here any time to hang out with friends. - Maxx

We did add mushrooms and onions. I think there was an entire onion and plenty of mushrooms sautéed on the steak platter. There was so much food. Had the Merlot with the meal paired perfectly with the steak. The clam chowder was exceptional. The salad wasn't huge leaves it was cut properly with the perfect amount of carrots and croutons the blue cheese was chunky and delicious. We also tried the spinach and artichoke dip. Was delicious.Service was perfect. Not sure the waitress name. But she was great. Didn't interrupt while we were talking. Each course was delivered with perfect timing. She was so nice. Told some friends about it. They said did you have a reservation. Not sure if you need one or not. Call and ask. Probably do for prime rib Friday and Saturday. But let me stress the steaks are not your normal thin steak, restaurants try and pass off as a steak. No this is a 1970's style thick steak. They also have a wonderful bar and I did see they have a wine cellar and dining available down there also. Not sure if it's a special occasion space or proper dining. If it is a private dining party place down there. Sold I want to try that. So if you're in the mood for the best date night ever without a stage. While also eating twice as good and twice as much for generally $20 less that other restaurants that serve steak. Then this is your spot. This is not a dig on the restaurant just a word to the wise. The parking lot is dirt/gravel. So it's muddy when it's wet outside. $1000 dollar shoes beware!

We stopped in for a late lunch on our way through town…read more The restaurant is spacious with the bar and a separate dining area as well as a rooftop which was closed so I didn't see it. The bar was pretty empty at the time but a nice woman walked by us and made a few recommendations on the menu since she loved them so much. Lisa is the bartender and server. She was pleasant and regularly checked on us. Since the woman recommended the Chicken Wild Rice and Mushroom soup, we each decided to order a cup to go with our sandwiches. I ordered the BLT with fries. The bacon was crispy and the sandwich was delicious. Fries were hot and crispy. My husband ordered the buffalo chicken wrap. He said it was tasty. Now, to the chicken wild rice and mushroom soup. This is by far the most delicious wild rice soup we have ever eaten. My husband, being from the area has grown up eating chicken wild rice soup so we've eaten a lot of it over time. We loved it so much we bought a quart to go. Apparently everyone else loves it as well as she had pre to go containers of the soup for purchase. Now, the only gripe I have is the charge for extra sauces like a small mayo, etc. Really? This is so petty to do to your customers. Just don't. Other than that, we enjoyed the food and atmosphere.

We would've tipped 10%, but with the terminals the servers use, it makes it very hard to. we normally like this place but will not be returning due to the bad service. the servers name was melissa. would not recommend sitting on the patio when she is serving.

Mostly a place to drink, a mixed experience with the food & service - 3 stars…read more I met 2 local Clear Lake friends for lunch. One of them thought everything was only a sad 2 stars. The other thought our visit was a good 4 stars. Personally, I'm averaging it out to a solid 3 star experience. I have mixed feelings about Rooster's Roadhouse. I expected something great but I ended up being somewhat disappointed. I'm willing to cut them some major slack, however, because of staffing shortages. And our server told us the main cook has been out sick for nearly a month. Our food ranged from really good to lame. Our burgers were great. The Roadhouse burger was so good, I ordered a 2nd one to take home. The soup was decent. The boneless wings sucked. They were dry and they had a weird flavor. The ham & swiss stacker was okay. But they charged 70 cents for each little deli cup of mayo. So it was $1.40 for 2 little side cups of mayo (that should have been on the sandwich in the first place). I thought this was a little odd and irritating, especially since all of the prices (food & booze) are very reasonable. The service overall was pretty good considering the bartender was our server, she was alone, and there was a full bar. The 3 of us were the only people in the dining room. But she brought out a couple of wrong items. And she couldn't answer any basic questions about the food or the beer. She pleaded ignorance and said she didn't know anything. I appreciate the honesty. For example, I asked her what company brewed Moose Drool Ale and what state they're in...she didn't know...cool, no problem. But when I walked by the bar, I noticed it was all printed out in big letters on the beer tap. She couldn't read the tap when she was filling the glass? Strange - I don't get it. I don't know what's going on at Rooster's...staffing shortages, burnout, laziness, lack of training? No clue. But I probably won't go back to this one. Our recent visits to the neighbors (Laurel Supper Club and Vinny's) were waaay better. And both of those joints are only a couple minutes down the road. One final note about the people: I'm from Minnesota and I can't help but notice how friendly everyone is in this part of Wisconsin. That includes the staff at various businesses and the customers I've run into and random strangers. The friendly laid back demeanor is very noticeable when I cross the St. Croix River. It makes me seriously consider moving to Wisconsin. Thumbs up to rural Wisconsin! - Maxx
