Wow what an amazing place. Amazing Wisconsin Supper club. Wife and I had the steak for 2. It was perfect. She had well done. I requested mine on the edge or rare and medium rare. It was. We did add mushrooms and onions. I think there was an entire onion and plenty of mushrooms sautéed on the steak platter.There was so much food. Had the Merlot with the meal paired perfectly with the steak.The clam chowder was exceptional. The salad wasn't huge leaves it was cut properly with the perfect amount of carrots and croutons the blue cheese was chunky and delicious. We also tried the spinach and artichoke dip. Was delicious.Service was perfect. Not sure the waitress name. But she was great. Didn't interrupt while we were talking. Each course was delivered with perfect timing. She was so nice. Told some friends about it. They said did you have a reservation. Not sure if you need one or not. Call and ask. Probably do for prime rib Friday and Saturday. But let me stress the steaks are not your normal thin steak, restaurants try and pass off as a steak. No this is a 1970's style thick steak. They also have a wonderful bar and I did see they have a wine cellar and dining available down there also. Not sure if it's a special occasion space or proper dining. If it is a private dining party place down there. Sold I want to try that. So if you're in the mood for the best date night ever without a stage. While also eating twice as good and twice as much for generally $20 less that other restaurants that serve steak. Then this is your spot. This is not a dig on the restaurant just a word to the wise. My husband and I went to the Laurel Supper Club to celebrate my birthday with another couple. We had efficient friendly service from Melissa. The place is small, crowded, very warm and super loud. It was hard to hear our conversation over dinner. We all ordered the Friday night prime rib special. My husband had the french onion soup which he said was delicious. Two of us at the table had the lukewarm corn chowder. It had little flavor. The 4 of us had salads which were fresh, but just some lettuce and sliced carrots. Nothing else. The homemade dressings were good. Everyone enjoyed the prime rib. It's a large portion, so we took home leftovers. The baked potatoes were perfectly done. The food is good. However the atmosphere is terrible. It's so loud that you can barely have a conversation with your dinner partner. They also pack you in so tight that the waitress hit me in the head with her tray. I don't fault the waitress, she was just trying to navigate the tight seating. If you are looking for a relaxing dinner, this is no longer the place. If you don't mind a loud bar type atmosphere you are good to go. read more

The food here is phenomenal! I have driven and will continue to drive the 45 minutes it takes from my home just to eat the filet mignon. Top five all-time favorite for me. I've never ordered anything other than steak here, and honestly probably never will. The accompanying pop-overs and soups are also delicious! The vibe is unpretentious - very classic WI supper club. It's like you've stepped in a time machine. Food is simple, but done SO WELL. Only bummer on a recent trip, the service in the dining room was lacking. The place was full on a Saturday night. Our server was so sweet, but it was clear she was crazy busy and didn't have the time to be super attentive. We never got our salads, and one of our beers took about 30 minutes. Our reservations were at 7 and we finally got seated at 8:30. Food didn't come out until 9:30. While I understand it was NYE and it would be busy, limit the amount of reservations if you don't have enough staff or limit the menu to a few items. Last time I was there was two summers ago when family from out of state visited us. My son in law requested this because he is a fan of supper clubs. We made our reservation and arrived on time 5:30 on a Saturday. An hour and a half later we were seated. We should have left because we had our three young granddaughters with us but didn't want to disappoint our son in law and we were told that it wouldn't be long. Our salads were very disappointing- a few green greens thrown on a plate. The pop overs were very burned and small. At least they brought the kids meals first but I remember the rest of ours were slow coming and not very good. By this time it was later and many people left. They were actually vacuuming while we were still eating. So disappointing and never going back. read more

We went here for the first time this weekend and loved it! It felt like we were stepping back into the 50s or 60s. So cool. I made a last minute/day of reservation and we had to wait a bit for our table, so we hung out at the bar. I had a great martini. I ordered the filet mignon and my husband had the sirloin with crab. My filet was among the best I've ever had. Cooked perfectly. I also had the best French onion soup ever, a house salad with amazing homemade blue cheese dressing and a twice baked potato. This is not going to be a popular review as the Laurel has been a New Richmond institution for decades. They offer much of what you expect from a traditional WI supper club, some of it done quite well such as their popovers and warm bread. The ambiance is memorable, our service was good. On the downside, some of their offerings are processed/pre-packaged and not made fresh onsite. Their perfectly rectangular chicken Kiev is the type you find in your grocer's freezer isle for $3.50 and was definitely made in a plant and reheated. The dinner salad was a sad plate of iceberg lettuce with a couple dried-out carrot slices. The au gratin potatoes were made with processed cheese food (like what you get at a ballpark) and for which you pay extra. If I go back, will order a cut of beef which has to be cooked fresh on-site and stick with a popover and bread to go with it. read more

We love the Laurel and eat there often. Our experience on 12/19 (my birthday) was horrible. We were so rushed. We weren't done with things and new food was brought, yet no one checked to see how we were. Hubbys fish was burnt and gross, and my medium rare fillet was woody (I asked for a box and they had the gall to put the woody bits that I had picked off, into the box!). I get that there were many elderly people eating who took forever, but don't take it out on us. it was a horrible experience. No soda refills, relish tray boxed up and brought out to us before we were even done eating it! what the heck! and no one ever checked on us. The French onion soup was cold, the cheese on top was cold and congealed. Couldnt even catch the attention of the server for help. ever. Such a horrible experience. Went back tonight for our Anniversary. Our waitress was awesome. She kept our drinks full, always made sure we were getting what we needed. Everything was going well. UNTIL... my Walleye dinner was about 3/4 of the way gone and I started to get bones in my mouth with a few bites. I ended up with 4 bones on my plate and I still have one stuck in my throat. I didn't expect to get comped a full dinner or dish but a small gesture of $5 or $10 would have been nice. Our waitress simply said the head chef was alerted and that was the end of the situation. While our server was great we're disappointed with the handling of our bone issue. I'd advice you show more remorse by bring chef to table or manage to show concern and a small gesture of apologies. I was too busy yapping to get pics as usual. I'm not sure if it's just me, but the popovers just don't do it for me. They gave me an undercooked French toast vibe that wasn't my thing. However, the rest of my food was pretty stellar. I had a filet cooked beautifully to medium rare that truly could've been cut with a fork, au gratin potatoes (these were just fine, missing something for me), a salad and French onion soup. Must add mushrooms and onions to your steak and they also have a creamy horseradish that is delicious with the red meat of your choice! The salad dressings are all homemade and delicious and the French onion was really yummy as well. I will choose a different potato option on my next visit, but all of that to say that I'll definitely be back, hopefully sooner rather than later. This a true gem in the middle of nowhere. I'm lucky enough to have a friend near by when passing through western Wisconsin and called to ask for a good steakhouse/supper club. The attention to detail was in everything they did, whether it was the old fashions made from brandy or whiskey or sweet or bitter. All salad dressings are also house made along with the rolls and bread. The main course of a perfectly cooked ribeye was one of the best steaks I ever had and price at $35 the 14oz was a steal. We moved to New Richmond three years ago, and I'm ashamed to say it took this long to get to the Laurel. My wife and I had one of the most pleasant dining experience in a long time. We were seated promptly and were served a warm pop over (yum). Sarah, our server, (OG) took the time to go over the menu to make our selection easier. Salads were cold and fresh, and the homemade dressing were killer! (Parmesan peppercorn, and blue cheese). I had the full rack of rbs, and they could not have been bette. Fall off the bone tender, with their own rub and sauce. My wife had the broiled almond Walleye, and said it was delicious. Sides of fries fried in tallow topped it off. Oh yeah, the French onion, and vegetable barley soups were also delicious. The dinner was fantastic, as was the service and atmosphere. The food we were served was sub-par. The popovers, mini-loaf of bread and French Onion Soup was the best part of the meal. The walleye that was served had no flavor other than old fishy taste and was full of rib bones, the cats enjoyed it. The duck breast that was served was cut into 4 pieces, not as a whole breast and were way over cooked. They should be cooked rare but there wasn't a spec of redness. The mushroom sauce and the rice pilaf that they were served with was very good though. The ambiance brings you back to the hay day of the Supper Club of the 30's and 40'. With the feel of friendliness, people are friendly and social. The drinks are strong but yet very good, wait staff are busy because the place is hoping. Then to top that the food is amazing. A very simple menu, but something for everyone. The food is very Wisconsin meat, fish and seafood. The soups are homemade and delicious, Don't forget the cheese. Harty food. Laurel is an old school supper club on the outskirts of New Richmond, surrounded by farms with corn, soybeans, alfalfa, and horses...drive a little more and you'll see milk cows and sheep. They have a huge dirt parking lot. The inside is warm and welcoming, lots of wood. It feels like you're hanging out at a friend's cabin. The staff are all super friendly and down to earth. FOOD: Three of us had dinner and our food was great. Two of us had steaks and one had a walleye dinner. The flavors were excellent. The walleye was cooked perfectly, crispy brown on the outside, tender & moist on the inside. The service was excellent too. FOOD GLITCHES: There were a few minor glitches. The food wasn't perfect. One of the steaks wasn't cooked correctly. The fresh loaf of bread was wet and a little raw on the bottom. And they brought me the wrong potato side. But they brought me a new one quickly and they let me take the other one home. Not exactly perfect but good enough for sure. RESERVATIONS: We tried to visit last weekend without reservations but it was a 4 hour wait for the next opening. They were PACKED with customers. They require reservations. But I found this a little tricky to pull off. Their phone line is quirky and doesn't seem to work all the time. And there's no way to make a reservation on-line. I had to call several times over an extended period of time and I finally left a message with my reservation request after hours. I tried calling AGAIN several times the next day to confirm my reservation. Again, the phone line was dead for a while. I finally got through but no one heard my voice mail message - they lost it. So I finally made my damn reservation! Not a big hassle, a little irritating - not a deal killer. This reservation issue doesn't seem to slow them down at all. They were PACKED with customers again. VINTAGE DÉCOR: I read one review that criticized the TEAL colored fixtures in the men's room. Silly. Of course, I had the check this out before I left. Indeed, there's a bright teal urinal in the men's room! And I love it! I only wish the matching sink was still around. I'm a huge fan of mid-century modern turquoise, yellow, and pink pastel porcelain fixtures, especially Crane Drexel and American Standard. I'd much rather see this at the supper club instead of some modern junk from Home Depot or Menards. Kudos for keeping the vintage vibe. And kudos for keeping it real, Laurel Supper Club! One of the remaining True Supper Clubs left, a simple menu that covers most all tastes and proof that less is more, the Steaks are Awesome and cut in house the sides are some of the best you will find anywhere Salad Dressing is house made and a bar that knows how to mix classic Supper Club Cocktails, the service is always great as you are seated you are greeted by the server with Hot Popovers and drink orders are taken, the menu is small but full of Great Food Choices and I can't think of anything else that needs to be in there, the feel of the restaurant is a Classic cabin country restaurant with a upscale feel, a true special occasion restaurant! We had heard great things from family and friends about The Laurel so we were excited to try something new and different. Our experience was nothing but sad and disappointing. We had made reservations a week in advance to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday. We had reservations for 5:00 on a Saturday. It took us 40 minutes to get there so we were really looking forward to a nice meal. We arrived on time and the place wasn't busy. We were seated at an uncomfortable high top table in the bar area. We brushed it off but later regretted not speaking up as there was no place to even rest our feet so our feet were just dangling the whole time. The bar area was noisy - a blender or margarita mixer kept being used which was loud and annoying. Now onto our meal. We had heard amazing things about the popovers so we were excited to try them! My husband and I were confused what all the hype was about - ours were cold and burnt. We barely touched them. The butter that came with the popovers was tasty but did nothing to make the popover better. At this point, my husband and I looked at each other and contemplated just leaving but wanted to give the place a chance. We ordered the French onion soup which was extremely salty. My husband found two bay leafs in his which should have been removed after the soup was cooked. Next we were given salads. They were very sad looking and nothing special... some iceberg lettuce and a few sad looking carrot slices. Upon taking a few bites of my salad, I noticed a piece of plastic wrap in my salad hidden under some lettuce. If I wasn't paying attention, I could have easily eaten it. We brought this to the waitress's attention but she apologized and that was the extent of it. Our entrees were just okay (rib eye and a chicken dish). This was a dining experience where we couldn't wait to leave. We asked the waitress for our bill, paid and left. We will not be giving this place a second chance.
