Filet Mignon
Tiana D.

The food here is phenomenal! I have driven and will continue to drive the 45 minutes it takes from my home just to eat the filet mignon. Top five all-time favorite for me. I've never ordered anything other than steak here, and honestly probably never will. The accompanying pop-overs and soups are also delicious! The vibe is unpretentious - very classic WI supper club. It's like you've stepped in a time machine. Food is simple, but done SO WELL. Only bummer on a recent trip, the service in the dining room was lacking. The place was full on a Saturday night. Our server was so sweet, but it was clear she was crazy busy and didn't have the time to be super attentive. We never got our salads, and one of our beers took about 30 minutes. But even that didn't detract from the meal because the steak was just that good. I'll be back!

We went here for the first time this weekend and loved it! It felt like we were stepping back into the 50s or 60s. So cool. I made a last minute/day of reservation and we had to wait a bit for our table, so we hung out at the bar. I had a great martini. I ordered the filet mignon and my husband had the sirloin with crab. My filet was among the best I've ever had. Cooked perfectly. I also had the best French onion soup ever, a house salad with amazing homemade blue cheese dressing and a twice baked potato. Our server (Sally?) was awesome. We will definitely be back!

"Au gratin potatoes" made with processed cheese food :(

This is not going to be a popular review as the Laurel has been a New Richmond institution for decades. They offer much of what you expect from a traditional WI supper club, some of it done quite well such as their popovers and warm bread. The ambiance is memorable, our service was good. On the downside, some of their offerings are processed/pre-packaged and not made fresh onsite. Their perfectly rectangular chicken Kiev is the type you find in your grocer's freezer isle for $3.50 and was definitely made in a plant and reheated. The dinner salad was a sad plate of iceberg lettuce with a couple dried-out carrot slices. The au gratin potatoes were made with processed cheese food (like what you get at a ballpark) and for which you pay extra. If I go back, will order a cut of beef which has to be cooked fresh on-site and stick with a popover and bread to go with it.

Old school supper club feel. Popovers , ice cream drinks and prime rib. Great date night if you're in the area.

Stonegarden is such a lovely spot for brunch. The service was fantastic and every staff member we…read moreinteracted with was friendly, kind, and genuinely welcoming. The atmosphere is fun and lively, although it does get pretty noisy, so it can be a little hard to hear at times. The food was delicious and definitely not your average brunch menu. Everything felt thoughtful, unique, and full of flavor. Most items are made from scratch, including the biscuits, the bacon, and even the hot sauce, which really shows in the taste. The Mediterranean tartine was a standout with the perfect balance of salty prosciutto and the sweet balsamic onion ricotta. The house Benedict was excellent and the hollandaise was some of the best I've had. The waffle was good but nothing especially memorable, it felt a little overpowered by the raspberry compote. The cocktails were fantastic too. The Orange Dream was the perfect brunch drink, light, creamy, and refreshing. Overall, a great experience with incredible food and wonderful service. I would happily come back again.

LOCATION Parking can be a little hard to find during peak brunch hours. But if you're willing to walk a block or so, there is a ton of street parking available. THE VIBE The interior is very white, clean, and crisp. Fresh, but not too sterile. Our server was lovely! Very personable. The food took a very long time to arrive. It was clear they were incredibly busy. THE FOOD The food was great! On the pricier end, especially considering the mains did not come with a side. The nordic omelette was super tasty and very unique! My friend got the avocado tartine - she said it was good, but the avocado had oxidized and was a little off-putting.

The sandwich was good, but there was no garnish. The sandwich was pressed with lots of meat. You'd think they could add a bit of lettuce or something to not make it look so sparse. Then when we left she told us it was $5 burger day. Why didn't she mention it before we ordered. Duh....

This isn't your ypical pizza or burger joint. This is way better! We had a very tough time deciding…read morewhat to have for lunch. The Pot Roast Burger (dang that sounds tasty), Baonator BLT (oh, man, I love lots of bacon on a BLT!), Louies Italian Roast Beef (yum, served on a garlic butter hoagie bun) or one of their amazing Paninis? How to choose? We decided on the Italian roast beef, and it was great. I'm going to admit I have a problem with lunch places, especially when I come after the noon rush because so many times the French fries are sad, barely warm wilted fries and the hot sandwich isn't much better. Let me tell you right now that Louies makes sure the hot sandwiches are steaming hot and the fries are crispy and right out of the fries. I was in lunch heaven! Just know all the restaurant meat comes from their own butcher shop right down the street, Louie's Finer Meats, another must stop when in town. Both places will bring joy to your taste buds!
