I was charged $315 for not returning a receiver located on the satellite dish which is on the roof. I am an elderly lady who will not risk climbing a ladder and risk falling off the roof. They said it will cost me an another $100 to have someone remove it. Nowhere in the contract does it say anything more than the modem and power cord are to be returned. Couldn't tell me why my Internet was down for three days because it was "raining in Montana" them on 4th day they say they don't know why I don't have Internet so they are going to send out a service tech in 6 days. I had Hughesnet install their internet service with WIFI and their Voice phone. Right from the start the Voice phone service did not function well, calls were dropped, both incoming and out going. There was also a noticeable delay while speaking causing talk over to occur. Using cell phone over the WIFI was unintelligible. The internet speed was very poor around 12mpsor less, instead of the 25 mps as advertised, and this did not permit streaming of showes or movies with out being kicked out of the program while viewing. Hughesnet's local technician said that cell phone and streaming did not function well with their satellites due to their orbit. When you terminate Hugesnet service they want to bill you for an early termination fee for their service that never worked as advertised. read more

I could not watch tv and I could not download anything, the speed was so slow. There's no Zoom, no YouTube. And did I mention it's HORRIBLE! I finally got a chance to move somewhere better but I had to pay them $355 early termination fee for, once again, HORRIBLE WORTHLESS service. I know better now. Customer Service at Hughes it at a nearly non-existent level. I tried to order satellite internet. It took hours to get through the high-pressure sales tactics and the agent did not tell the truth about the costs, the nature of the service, the time of the installation, and the true quality of the service provided. For example, the web page says "free install" but there is a $99 "leasing fee" paid at install... The web page says "unlimited data" but in fact data is limited to 20GB per month after which service is reduced and extra money must be paid for more data. The agent said install would happen in 48 hours and I made it clear this was a condition for my purchase, and then the next day I got an email saying install would be in 9 days! I realized that this was not a company that I wanted to do business with so I tried to cancel, repeatedly, twice via email and 7 times via phone call. Hughes makes it impossible to cancel. When I tried to cancel, I was transferred often, hung up on, put on interminable holds, etc. I probably spent about 5 hours on the phone, unsuccessfully. Emails were unresponded to. I am still trying to simply CANCEL the install and refund my money, and have been unable to. Hughes took my money, billed my credit card, provided nothing, and then made it impossible to cancel. This is my second entry. I have had this horrible service for 12 days, it never really worked as they promised. Kept buffering . I have made 3 attempts to cancel my service. The first time I was left on hold and the disconnected after 45 mins. Allegedly agent was speaking to a manager. Second call I was left on hold for an hour, supposedly to speak to a manager. Finally gave up. The third time once I told the agent I wanted to cancel he put me on hold. And to top it off the want 805 to cancel and want 240 as a monthly bill. My experience with this company has not been a positive one. I was promised fast internet and all I got was constant buffering from day one. I called many times to let them know about the issues and it was not resolved. I canceled the service and requested them to send me a box and return label. That was 3 month ago and it still has not come. Now they want to charge me $325 for canceling the service. Please be aware when doing business with this company. I'm pretty disappointed in myself for not reading the Yelp reviews prior to moving forward with them. Our hands were tied with the options that we had and our prior internet service was with Dish TV. That was poor as well. When we spoke with a sales rep at HughesNet he guaranteed that we would not have the buffering issues and slow speeds that we were receiving from Dish. We had the initial satellite installation occur behind a large tree that is on the property and were getting very slow speeds and called to complain. They tested the system and said they would send out another tech to fix the installation. He ended up showing up 4 hours late and it took him more than 4 hours to move the dish to another location. This didn't fix the problem either. We made 4-5 calls to their tech support with no resolution and we finally go tot Tier 4. They blamed it on a piece of equipment in Seattle and credited us one month (the only good thing they've done the entire time). We called back to see if the Seattle issue was resolved and got a "yes" answer but nothing corrected on the service. We were in "Tier 4" calls three times with no resolution. It's painful to relive these past few months but if it helps the next family, it's worth it. Finally, there's light at the the end of the tunnel and we found San Diego Broadband was now offering service so we switched over and have received extremely better service. Unfortunately that means an early termination of the HughesNet contract and they are trying to make us pay a fee. My explanation is why should we pay for a service we are not receiving let alone be punished for leaving. It's like going out to dinner and sitting at a table where they don't bring you any food but want you to pay for it. They really should be refunding the last 8 months of fees. In total 2 technician visits, 12-14 phone calls, 3 of them to "Tier 4", on the phone now 1 hour and 20 minutes and no resolution. I had AT&T Access for many years when I lived in the city limits of Bedford, IN 47421. 25 MPS & no problems ever. I recently called AT&T to discontinue my Internet service. I was asked my present address & I gave it to the Customer Service person. I was very happy I can get AT& T Internet with 25 MPS period where I live, 3 1/2 miles from the city limits. I was presented with 2 plans, I chose there premium plan at $76 a month everything went downhill from. I wasn't informed it was an introductory price. the service I received was low grade and there was no mention of 2 yr contract and early termination fee. A knock-down drag-out fight to cancel my service 6. Worst service provider experience ever, and I say that as a long time Comcast customer, so believe me, I know bad internet service... The sign up and pre-payment process was the only thing that went smooth with Hughes. Set appointment with installer... Guy calls up that morning saying he's going to come early. I agree to come down as soon as I can and sure enough, I find him waiting for me in the parking lot. I tell him where we'd like to mount the antenna, and he pretty much flat out refuses, insisting on putting it in a location that requires roof penetrations (which I was trying to avoid for all the obvious reasons). This guy doesn't know it, but I've done lots of antenna installations. I _KNOW_ it can be mounted where I'm suggesting, but he doesn't seem to understand the concept of pre-measuring an installation, so I eventually relent and let him drill holes in the roof (It's going to get interesting if it leaks when it rains, because as far as I'm concerned Hughes will get to pay for the repairs). We get hooked up and the performance is nowhere near what we signed up for. He insists he can't fix it and we have to call tech support. He's clearly eager to leave at this point. (Not in an "I've got another install to do" way, but more of a "I don't want to be the this doesn't work hostage again." way). I call tech support, but I won't sign off on the install until it works, which makes him antsy. Tech support eventually feeds me a BS story about needing to wait 24 hours for it to come up to full speed. Needless to say, even after a few days, it was still piss poor. Finally, I decided that it was not going to work and to pull the plug before this got any worse. At this point, I'm assuming my bad for making this mistake in the first place, and that I'm not going to get any money back, just not going to pay out a 2 year commit. I didn't like it, but I started the call willing to accept that. The guy I finally reach after navigating a torturous voice menu, getting disconnected randomly several times and what seemed like an eternity on hold (probably only 60 minutes or so) starts from the position that disconnecting is no problem... AT THE END OF MY 24 MONTH CONTRACT. I explain that no, this isn't working and I want to disconnect now. He says "Fine, but you can either pay your 24 month contract as a lump sum now or make monthly payments for 24 months." We go around on this for a while and basically, I'm now determined to get as much of my money back as I can. I tell him that not only am I NOT going to be paying any termination fees, or anything else beyond what I've already paid, but because they haven't lived up to their end of the contract, I expect them to refund all of my prior payments too. Now he starts trying to negotiate for me to stay. He's offering me service discounts, upgrades, practically anything. If it wasn't such a horrible service, I might have been tempted to ask for 10% of the company and see what happened. He seemed utterly desperate for me not to disconnect. I finally got very blunt and said "No, I'm not going to change my mind no matter what you offer me, I want this disconnected and I want my money back. I finally had to escalate to a supervisor and threaten to sue for breach of contract. I got a full refund and they sent a box for me to return the equipment. We ended up switching to Ridge Wireless (which I highly recommend. They are the absolute opposite of Hughes... Responsive, friendly, customer-centric, competent... tIt's WONDERFUL.). read more

If I could post negative stars I would. WAAAAAAAYYYYY overpromised and Far underdelivered. Basic service is ridiculous. It takes 2-5 minutes for Google to load on a NEW mac! FORGET watching a movie. That will never happen. I work from home and thought satellite would be better - more reliable - NOPE. Now I have to use my cell phone as a hotspot so I can make calls - the HN won't even allow a Skype call without lagging. I'm pretty PO-ed. REALLY BAAAAAAADDDDDDD. ZERO customer service. Worst internet I have ever had including dialup. Doesn't even deserve 1 star. I had the service for 2 weeks and it never even worked (like not just slow but didn't work at all.) I work in a tech job so I know how to troubleshoot things. I called multiple times to get help and even their highest tier of tech support didn't know how to fix the issue and suggested I cancel and told me there was no charge to cancel within 30 days. They charged me anyway. They also want me to somehow disconnect and send back the entire satellite dish. I'm pretty sure this company is just a scam or something. If you have another choice in internet services, take it. Huges net is slow and expensive. We started with the lowest GB and it lasted us about 2 weeks so we changed and upgraded to the next grade. It lasts about 3-4 weeks. It's very, very slow. Don't even think about streaming a movie or watching a show with internet. It buffers all the time. A 30 minute show has sometimes taken an hour and half to watch. Unfortunately where we live, we don't have another choice. As soon as I have one, I will take it!! read more

Told them what we needed, everything in the house that used the internet, computers, TV, plumbing monitor, HVAC, etc. They told us they would provide that. It didn't work right from the start. Then it went down completely. When I called them they told me we had gone over our limit, even though we were gone a week and did not use the internet. Now they are telling us they want $400 to cancel a contract they never honored. I have had HughsNet for several years now, and I feel I should share my experience to all "would be" clients. The times I have had a problem, and contacted their office, they have been very helpful. The low rating comes from the actual service. It is VERY slow. Technically, they can get away with the slow rate because of how their plans read. For example: "Download Speeds of up to 10 Mbps". It's the "up to" that gets you...it can be MUCH slower, and still qualify under that phrase. I have tested the speed on numerous occasions, and I'm lucky if I get as much as 1 Mbps. Unfortunately, I don't have any other options. So, if you do have an option, PLEASE check out the other carriers. read more

I made 12 phone calls to the company and nothing was ever resolved. I then canceled my service, returned the equipment and they wanted to charge me a $400 cancelation fee for service that they never provided. After a final attempt to resolve this I spoke to an agent who assured me that they would refund the $400 on January 5th. I took the agent's number and got a reference number. 2 months later they still have me as an active customer and the reference number matches nothing and they don't have any way to contact the agent whose name I have. It does not work!!!! If I could have rated it zero, I would have. The sales department represented that it would work in my area, but it did not. Not even a little bit. Could not even open simple web pages. Certainly no TV or complex internet processes. I could not do my work from home as they represented I could. When I called to cancel the service, they required the cancellation fee even though it did not work as represented. Fortunately, they did not have my current credit card on file. I would not give them a card to draw on. I will not pay this fee given that it did not work as represented for me. We have been "stuck" with their service for 2+ years now, simply because in our rural area they are the only game in town. Extremely poor customer service and support. Their internet service reminds me of the old 56k dial up phone connection. And God forbid we have snow and ice (normally 6 months of the year). Their service response is always to put you on hold, claim they have checked the connections, and found we are running fine. They always blame the computer we are using. I needed internet. HughesNet said they could provide it. I was desperate, I signed up. For 89 dollars a month HughesNet provided me with a service that included 24 hour buffering and the ability to only watch streaming video for one hour a day at 6 am. When I found out I was basically being robbed ( 89.00 for les then one gig of data) I cancelled. I recently returned the equipment and to my surprise HughesNet said they would refund the price of the equipment. I returned the equipment and two days later was told by a representative that it was received and a credit and refund had would be sent to my ac punt in 10 days. 15 days have passed, I called HughesNet and that representative informed me that I needed the tracking number before the refund could be processed. Surprise!!! I gave her the tracking number, thank god I still had it, and then asked how I was supposed to know that additional information was apparently still needed for my return... after a lot of back and forth I was told the refund would now be available in 37- 48 hours. I spoke to a supervisor after that because I still needed clarification and she informed me that it would be 36-48 hours just to credit the account ( that I no longer have) and that would trigger the refund which... Wait for it, take up to 10 days! Seriously Hughes met is the worst thing to hit the communication market. They are disorganized and confused and it isn't ever their fault. read more

I have had hughesnet for over a year and never been as fast as should be- like they advertise. I called in past to get it fixed, they blamed it on my rotator. So I replaced rotator. Suprise... still slow!!! I been dealing with it for long time because calling tech support is awe full!!! I just spent 1.75 hrs on phone with them to get no where. I proved over and over it was their equipment that was not working properly and then they wanted to continue trouble shooting it. Now on top of that they want me to pay to have service tech come out to fix it! I don't recommend this internet unless you have lots of patience and big bank account to pay for it.
