Too bad one is as low as it goes. They tout their download speeds of 15mb plus. What they don't tell you is that their latency is soooo bad 650ms+ that you can't stay connected to many sites. Mainly secure sites. The long latency makes the service unusable for many purposes. When you call tech support they have you do useless tasks like go to purple.com or use their speed test tool. Completely misleading. This is in an effort to get you beyond the trial period so that they can charge you 400.00 to cancel. I Finally called them to cancel and had them send me a return kit. Wait for it...it gets even better. HughesNet requires you to return what they call the radio, which is attached to the Dish on the roof. They charge extra if you don't crawl on the roof and retrieve the radio. Funny they left that part out during the sales cycle. Buyer Beware. Just because the company has the name Hughes in it does not make them credible. In my opinion they use deceptive sales and business practices to lure and maintain their customers. We are using ATT mobile broadband for now (expensive $700/month, but it works). Fortunately I can afford HughNet's cancellation fee. Unfortunately for HughesNet I can also afford attorneys. I've had this service since 2017, and as I am writing this I've been on hold for about an hour waiting to cancel. I've never been more excited to cancel a subscription in my life! If you've read the others reviews, I'm sure you're already aware that this whole company is just a scam that traps you into a 2 year long contract and that early cancellation costs $400 dollars. I have the lowest plan and they sign you up for automatic payments so you're unaware if they're charging you more than you signed up for--- which is hilarious because their service NEVER WORKS. I've had this piece of trash for two years and whenever I'm home I simply use my hotspot or something.. I even bought a WiFi booster to see if it'd help but nope! Worst company ever! Miserably slow connection, totally worthless tech support, very high prices.

We bought a lake house for weekends and didn't have many internet options. When I called I was given the impression that it was a month to month contract for $69. We can't stream anything because it stops every few minutes to buffer. Direct TV says that, "the internet connection speed does not allow for a smooth playback of this streaming program." It takes forever for anything to load on the computer and sometimes Safari can't get a secure connection to the internet. I could go on and on. I've spent numerous hours on the phone with Hughes trying to fix the problem which they denied existed. Today I called and canceled. To my surprise I was told I had a 24 month contract and would be charged $355 to cancel. I'm writing this hoping it might prevent someone else from making the huge mistake of getting Hughes. Terrible organization - the service itself is bad and the customer service people are worthless, on top of the fact that they are liars - either at the time of sale or on the customer service line. HORRIBLE company, service, billing, etc!!! Unfortunately with my location and TV provider, HughesNet seemed to be the most logical option as a "bundle". They told me that even if i used my allotted amount of data, then it would only slow down speed - not completely shut me off. So when i no longer had internet service I called the customer service line (btw, the recording you hear while you're on hold still talks about what to do if your house is flooded - the damn hurricane was 7 months ago...update your recording). Anyways, the customer service people immediately told me i didn't have service because i had used up all my data in 10 days, but they would be happy to upgrade my service. After i told them that their sales person had lied to me and i should have service, they still just said i could upgrade my service. They also told me my satellite TV had just been connected to my wifi service within the last week, even though nothing had changed in the 4 months i've had their service. After i complained enough, they came back and said they would give me extra data for this month, and again suggested i upgrade. I told them i would rather cancel than upgrade and i would get back to them. An hour later i called them again, got a different person at the call center and he confirmed one of the things the earlier person said about the number of devices that were connected to my wifi. I told him that wasn't possible since i had personally disconnected 2 of the devices before i called him, and another of the devices was 8 miles away. He "refreshed" his information and suddenly agreed with me - seemed very suspicious. He then actually agreed to help me try to fix my internet connection problem by resetting my modem, etc., and then that made it so i had service again. As i asked him why the previous person i had spent 45 minutes on the phone with didn't suggest trying that, and he agreed that it had been bad customer service/technical support (from both the original person i talked with and the manager). Long-story short - they just wanted to try to get me to upgrade, regardless of whether i really had an issue or not. These guys are crooks and completely untrustworthy - STAY AWAY FROM THEM!!! read more

HORRIBLE, ABSURD, UNBELIEVABLE These jerks deserve less than 0 stars. We got Hughesnet at the end of December 2018 and cancelled service at the beginning of February. 2 months of trouble. From the date of install, we had nothing but problems. It was slow, sometimes wouldn't work and we "used" way too much data. We were on the 10GB plan and had to purchase "data tokens" within the first month. We quickly realized that even the 20GB plan would not even work for our family of four. $103 for the first month for an AWFUL service. We work from home and we MUST have consistently working internet service, which I relayed to the customer service reps every time (probably at least 10 phone calls) I called to complain that our service wasn't working. Of course, every time I called, they said our service was "working with no problems" on their end. I even scheduled a repair technician to come out and he said he couldn't find a problem but recommended that we purchase a Wi-Fi extender. We purchased a Wi-Fi extender for around $80 but of course this did not solve any problems. We couldn't even watch a 30-minute TV show on Netflix without the show buffering/loading every two minutes or less. My wife uses video chat for work meetings and most of the time, she couldn't even finish her meetings. Our options were Centurylink and Hughesnet at our new home that we had just purchased. Having had some issues with Centurylink in the past, we decided to try Hughesnet. I called to set it up and the sales person said we would have no issues at our new location. They did not say that were in a 2-year contract and that we would have to pay a $400 early termination fee even though the internet wasn't working. After a month and a half, I lost my patience. We had to have working internet, so I ordered Centurylink. $45 per month, no contracts at a speed of 3MBPS. Not ideal, but it was our only option. I waited a couple weeks to think about what to do about Hughesnet. I finally called to cancel, and I told them that I would bot be paying an early termination fee as they didn't hold up their end of the contract. I argued with a gentleman that I could barely understand for about 10 minutes. He said they would not waive the fee because it was a "valid charge." The result was I told him to cancel my contract, but I would not be paying a fee. They went ahead and charged my bank account for the fee without telling me. I am angry and shocked that these people are being allowed to rip people off. Around $500 for two months of the worst internet I've ever experienced! How are they getting away with this?! Our new Centurylink advertised at a slower speed than Hughesnet that costs HALF as much is working beautifully. This is without a doubt the worst company EVER! We signed up and never even got reliable service AT ALL! Come to find out the equipment was defective. They refused to replace it giving one excuse after another and refused to give us our money back. From the very first call it was lies, deception and the run-around. Had problems with service/reliability, lied to about pulling credit up-front, lied to about cancellation period that didn't exist up-front, got the run around for the next 4-5 months until I gave up - filed a complaint with the BBB and suspended my service until they agreed to cancel me. The ended up only charging me HALF the 400 cancellation fee even though I was told I could cancel within the first 2 weeks for free. Their BBB response was basically this: your fault, not ours, sorry we will only charge you 200 to cancel instead of 400. They are a joke and my next complaint will be to the FCC. The absolute worst internet I've EVER had, and that's including the borrowed wifi I had as a preteen, dependent on an antenna I designed by my dad just to get ONE bar at about a quarter mile from the source. I'm lucky to get 20 kbps DOWNLOAD speed on a good day, and it constantly craps out. Took an HOUR just to download iTunes drivers. Cannot even load videos in 144p, and downloads occasionally read something like "3 years and 22 weeks remaining." And not only is their internet service unusable. It's also expensive as hell, with a contract designed precisely that HughesNet can piss you off, blow you off, coerce you into paying more for their horrible service, or lack thereof, and then finally rip you off for about half a grand when you've been given enough spanking that you don't want no mo'. There are so many things wrong im not sure where to start. All I needed was internet service at my new apartment. First, I was told it would be more economical if I had a buissiness account. This made cancelling a confusion later. When they arrived to install, it couldn't be done. This is a huge dish not intended for inner city apartments so could not be installed. I was never told this when ordering. The person who came to install told me I would be automatically refunded my deposit. A month later I called to check on it as it had not been refunded yet. This is a horrible service. It took me two hours to watch a one hour netflix show. The buffering and disconnects were horrible. I called them out repeatedly from January until August. They could never fix the issue. I went to my daughters house last weekend and I remembered what it was like to watch a show without the hell. I called a new provider the next day. If I could give a big fat zero rating I would. Actually it needs to be a negative zero. I'm not in Sugarland but in Magnolia area. Someone at that company stays up all night long and Jacks with that meter. We had 15 gig per 30 days $100.00/mo. Ridiculously expensive. The reset never happened on 30th day it was at 11:59 p.m. the 31st day. By the middle of the month I had used more than half of my 15 gig therefore I was on a thing called smart browsing which my turtle was faster than. HUGHES NET!!!!! Every month I would call have the same conversation, then argument and despied HUGHES NET more and more. My computer has a meter on it and comparing my computer meter to HUGHES NET'S meter I was ripped off 5 gig without fail every month, sometimes even more. Getting ripped off $40.00 to $50.00 a month really pissed me off. I did it for a year and a half. After flushing approximately $900.00 down the toilet, I went to Verizon got a jet pack. I got 18 gig per 30 days for 65.00 a month and both computer and Verizon meters match each other. Verizon quality and quantity is superior to HUGHES NET. BTW I'm not a Verizon lover either. But their customer service at least is trained well. Hughes NET is rude, a rip off and shady. With each person you speak with at HUGHES NET its a different excuse. When I canceled the service I was told I'm on a 2 year contract and I was charged $191 for the lies they give. Because I moved, they still sent the box to my old address a month later. After 7 months of arguing with them about the service I decided to cut my losses and move on. When final bill came I was charged the six month prorated fee on the phone service and they told me that each month it went down but would not change the price. They are super happy and nice and accommodating when you sign up, however, for me anyway, they failed to mention that with my awesome 20 gigs I would get every month, 10 were only usable from 2am-8am, when no average human is awake. After speaking with customer service, I was basically told there is nothing I can do and to please not that 10 gigs are anytime, 10 gigs are from 2am-8am...yes thank you HughesNet. They were the only ISP in my area at the time..and now that I think back, I should have paid $30/month to for internet to my iPad over these crooks. If you HAVE to get them, just look forward to slow service, NO service, and bad customer service. I called for an install. They offered Wednesday. I can't do Wednesday, I have surgery. How about Saturday? Yes sir, Saturdays fine. Except they show up Wednesday anyhow. They refuse to change my phone number to the correct one, I don't know why. They imputed it wrong and then got attached to the wrong one. Well the install tech was nice, at least and the Internet was working when he left. It has worked, slowly, about ten percent of the time since. If you call, to get to the department that they send you to, it then hangs up. So I called for tech service, waited 14 minutes, to find someone who can't help, and transfers me over to the number that hangs up again. They do recommend that I go to the Internet to get help. Funny. If I had the Internet, I wouldn't be calling. But there is good news, because I have an iPhone, so I use that to go to the Internet, where they won't accept my login info. So I wrote them an email to cancel. I am within my 30 days for a money back guarantee, thank god. I am sure I will be e,ailed back and told I used the wrong process to cancel, and maybe told to call the toll free number again. It probably goes without saying that the website does not have a way to cancel. Fair to say that wouldn't recommend this to anyone, and I would bet, since there is a firewall between themselves and any feedback, that they probably don't know why they lost my subscription in less than a week. read more

Hughes net Sales team was quick to sign me up for a $49.99/month internet plan for to run my home business that requires 3 live web cams and uploading 300 raw pictures a week. I stressed that the internet was vital to my business and he reassured me that it would meet my needs. Seven days after installing we called due to slow speeds only to learn that we had exceeded our data limits. Data limits? I was never told we had data limits. I upgraded my account to the largest plan available at $149.99 and exceeded those limits in 11 days again. Called furious that I was lied to about the service meeting my needs, data limits, and now paying 3x what I was originally informed. They agreed to cancel the service and wave the early termination fee. Today I get the bill $400 for the early termination fee. Spoke with 2 agents that stated there was nothing in the notes that they agreed to wave the fee and that there was nothing they could do at this point. So I have to pay the $400 early termination fee or get a black mark on my credit. read more

In December I INQUIRED via chat about possibly cancelling my account. After consideration, we decided to maintain service although it is slow and inconsistent. I received an email after my chat that stated "We value your business and are sorry to hear that you are considering leaving us. We're very careful with account status changes. Ms. ****, for account information protection, we would need to speak with you directly to provide you the details about the cancellation process of the service." The key words being "considering" and also "speak with you directly" Today, I noticed that $190 had come out of my bank account. They had cancelled my account and charged me without my authorization. At NO time did I say to cancel nor did I grant permission for my account to be charged. You should work to try to save customers NOT cancel them after one inquiry was made. I obviously do not want to continue service with a company that chooses to charge me without my verbal consent. Hughes Net has refused to refund me unless I continue service. Why would I want to continue service with a company who has taken away money from my account?? Money, that was to be used to pay my 4 month olds day care provider! Thank you very much Hughes Net for poor service and poor internet. I laugh every time I see the commercials on how great the speed is. I signed up for Hughesnet satellite internet because we live in a rural area and didn't think that there was any other options. The service was incredibly slow and frustrating. Their customer service is so/so - they take your info and then transfer you to a different dept and several times the call was dropped for me during this transfer, you had to start all over which was very frustrating. The install was smooth, except the equipment is a fairly large and ugly dish on our roof. I ended up canceling the service - at which time they said they will send a return "kit" - which hasn't arrived yet but I understand it's a box where you are to box up the model and a part from the dish itself - so we have to climb on the roof to remove - and that they do not want the dish itself - so I have to wrestle that off of the roof too or leave it. I think this is common for providers, but I've only had the service was a couple of weeks and I thought they would come and get their dish, etc. - I'm a bit disappointed by that. In all fairness, I was using the system with a VPN connection and they did warn me that the service runs slower when utilized that way. A better option, look for a wireless broadband provider if there is one in your area. read more
