So I will preface this as I've only been in one time, but for the size of the place, it looked like they had a lot of options--and bonus, they had a tasting area. Walking up to the place it looked tiny, but when you enter it, you see all the delicious choices to pick from. The left side was mostly wines and liquors, but then the right side of the location is lined with fridges filled with many beers I had never heard of in terms of brands but also in terms of styles (sour red rye? Sour trippel? Yes, please). Obviously my friend and I had a hard time picking only two styles to try, but if I hadn't been on such a sour kick, we could have made our own pack with the wide variety of single beers they have available further down the row. To top it off, we went on a Friday evening and they were having a tasting event. Nothing huge, but a man was standing in the back offering tastes of Good River/Renegade brews (because I guess Renegade was just bought by Good River). He had 4 beers to try (from Good River: a cherry porter, a black lager, and a maple porter; from Renegade: a peanut butter imperial stout). All were great--for some reason I really loved the cherry porter. The man giving the samples said this place either has tasting every Friday or every other Friday of different local Denver items (beers, liquors, etc). Definitely a nice place and people are very friendly. Worth checking out if you're in the area and need to load up with some good beverages. read more

Selection is interesting but the hours are crazy! I will literally go there at 12:30pm when they open at 11am and the place will be locked. This has happened on several occasions where the place is closed and locked when it should be open. So unreliable. read more

So I needed help from an acquaintance and to give him a gift, was looking for barrel aged stouts. Since it's not really in season, breweries didn't really have what I was looking for. Enter Hugo's. Yelp steered me here and Yelp is never wrong. The owner was kind and helpful. He steered me to both unknown beers and beloved beers for beeries (beer enthusiasts... Beeries sounds right). He has a variety of price points and is starting to store beer so that he'll have the good stuff as it ages. All in all, I'd totally recommend Hugo's to any beerie. read more

For such a small space these folks pack in a whole lot of extraordinary! Fantastic selection of craft and local beers. Really impressed with the range. Thanks to Hugo's I've been introduced to Red Leg Brewing Co out of Colorado Springs. Veteran owned and operated, but most of all REALLY tasty beers. (Just had to plug them while I'm raving about Hugo's because if it wasn't for them I'd never have tasted that exquisite Ivy 100 Howitzer Amber Ale.) It's nice to pop in on a Friday afternoon between work and home, pick up some good beer for the weekend and taste something new at the back of the store. Highly recommend Hugo's! read more

This is a small place, but it's clean and attractive, with a friendly staff and a good quality selection. It's not a big selection, but you'll like what you get. You will pay a little more, but I've found it to be worth it for both the selection and the convenience if you live nearby . Also, the place smells oddly nice. Weird. read more

I am so sad that I've been relying on King Soopers for my alcohol needs since moving to Denver in January. On my walk home yesterday I could not bear the thought of heading there to get some beer. I remembered seeing the sign for Hugo's and promptly went in. They have such a great selection of beer and I can't wait to again this weekend! Bell's Two Hearted Ale is my absolute favorite beer and I haven't found it in a ton of places here in Denver, so I was thrilled to find it here. What a great little beer store. Just as the business name states, this is primarily a Colorado proud product store. With the world class beer scene going off around the Country, I will vouch for Colorado being in the running for the El Dorado of craft beer. That said they have some other states represented, but still no Founders in Colorado, not their fault, I am just shouting out to the beer gods. This boutique style beer and liquor store has the beer arranged from left to right, light to dark, or light, to heavy -palate wise. This is so great because as a palate impulsive person, I just feel like drinking a certain beer weight on certain days. Prices are pretty competitive for such a selection, you may pay a dollar or two more than Argonaut or another bigger store, but I think the selection is better for the obscure. Today I bought Old Soul, Belgian Ale- from Crazy Mountain(Edwards, CO0, super delicious, dry, with citrus, juniper berries, and that Belgian yeast mouth feel, and also something I have not seen around. To get across just how obscure the beers they have are is the fact that they had three Gueuze style beer packs. Or maybe they were Gose, but I think they were Gueuze. The difference, is a Gueuze is a lambic, sour beer fermented with the wild yeast that blows in, and a Goze is a German style beer that is salted. If you are a beer geek, I guarantee you will enjoy the shopping experience here. I have shopped here a few times since we moved neighborhoods, and it is worth the extra few block walk. read more

I used to live across the street from the site that is now Hugo's, and man, did they do wonders with this space. Way back then (four years ago) this building was half vacant, housing Nicolo's before they expanded and Kelly's Superette (a convenience store that was so unstocked and so unbusy that you wondered how they paid their rent). What a difference a year or two makes. This is a great shop if you're in the market for some locally produced beer, wine, and spirits. If you can't find a craft spirit here, then it's probably not made in CO. The beer section (more than half the store) is where it's at. They have bombers and growlers from some of the best small micro/nanobreweries in CO as well as a good variety of out of state offerings. Prices are pretty standard for craft. They also sell IMT canned wine. I haven't seen this outside of their winery (but maybe I don't get out enough). What would make this place super amazing is if you could drink a beer while you browsed ala Beermongers in Portland, OR. I don't know if CO law is conducive to this type of arrangement, but this spot would be pretty perfect, if that were the case. How had I not been into Hugo's before this weekend? Ive passed by several times, but I just assumed that it was just another small, scummy, gross Cap Hill Liquor store. Boy was I wrong. The guy working the shop was extremely knowledgeable of all of the products within the store. He was able to recommend some great bombers for gifts. I moved to Denver a little over two years ago and this place beats corner liquor stores by a mile. Always friendly workers and reasonable prices for good stuff. I love this place! It's right around the corner from me. It's a welcome addition to the neighborhood and certainly a good deal better than the places that were in the space before. The guys that work here (own it?) are always very helpful and courteous and I'm happy to support a business that focuses on local products. It's very convenient to me, but I feel it would be for everyone in the are. There is parking in the back and since you can now park on both sides of 13th Ave, you should never have an issue find a place to park. It's also easy to walk to! I found this place through the Lone Tree Brewery website - listed under places that sell their beer (I'm in love with the Acres O'Green Irish Red). We were on our way through Denver (airport to the mountains) the day after their grand opening and had to get beer for our week stay. Having been out to Denver a few months prior, we knew we just couldn't pass up a place showcasing all of the local brewers in one place. And showcase they do! I was a little nervous they'd be low in stock after the opening but we were not disappointed. In fact, we were excited by the great selection and the reasonable prices. The guy working there was friendly and helpful - explained the layout and answered all of our questions. Seriously, this place beats any regular liquor store hands down. Interesting selection of rare to extremely rare beers. Their selection isnt massive by any means but I see them as a niche beer store. They had plenty of Imperial Stout's which are my absolute favorite as well as many small batch beers. It's a good place to go with an open mind. read more

A neighborhood liquor store that features beer and liquor made in Colorado? I'll see you there! Hugo's is a locally owned business that showcases local brewers, vinters and distillers. While they mainly feature CO alcohol, there are a few out of state interlopers, such as Lagunitas, in the mix, as well. It may also be the only hip liquor store around - props to the designer for pulling together a salvaged industrial look. While Hugo's is small shop, the beer selection is pretty extensive and organized by style of beer from stouts to Belgians and so on. On a recent visit, we spotted product from Crooked Stave, as well as River North's full lineup. The owner is super friendly and on our first visit explained the layout of the beer, so if you don't see something, just ask. The wine selection is very small, though we were told it'd be expanding. You'll still be able to find Monkey Theorem, as well as bottles from a few other Colorado wineries and I noted the prices were a dollar or two cheaper than some other Capitol Hill liquor stores. Lastly, if you're not one for adult beverages, they have a couple shelves dedicated to locally made sodas. Next time you need to raise a bottle or fill a glass, I suggest paying Hugo's a visit. read more

Just stopped in since we were in the neighborhood. Love the Colorado pride since our state is full of so many excellent fermented beverages. The owner happened to be the employee who helped us and was very helpful and knew what he was talking about. Would definitely be willing to drive an extra few minutes and maybe pay a little bit of a premium (though their prices seemed fair) to be able to support a local business who is focused on helping local breweries/wineries/distilleries. Awesome little liquor store in the Cap Hill-ish area. I like to stop in here on my way to Cheesman Park because they have an awesome selection of canned craft beer (I know, it's supposed to be 3.2 beer for the park...shhh)! In fact, their entire beer selection is pretty solid. I love that they focus largely on Colorado breweries. I haven't spent much time in the wine/liquor section but it seems like they have a nice variety of local stuff there too! The staff is great, they let you browse and do your thing but are also more than happy to answer any questions you have. The prices are slightly higher than what I've seen at other places, but only by a dollar or two. Definitely still worth going in to check out! read more

Outstanding. Great selection of beer and spirits. Anyone who carries the Leopold's line gets a few stars my book. Prices were within a few dollars of competitors on the booze side and beer was well priced and quite reasonable. The option to mix sixers is always appreciated, and for some unknown-to-me reason, not too common (from a large selection) here in the great state of Colorado (if Virginia can do it, anyone can/should be able to). It's a haul for me, but I've been wanting to check Hugo's out. I am glad I did. This would be an awesome neighborhood store to have around the corner. Love the wood floors. read more
