I love hu hot! It's my favorite place for a quick to-go lunch, or for a date night. We recently stopped in on a whim, came hungry, and left barely able to walk! I ordered for lunch, the last time I tried I didn't enjoy the meal and felt sick but thought it was because of my sauce choices and the meat not seeming fully cooked because I ordered too much veggies with it; this time I did minimal veggies and different sauce, it was actually ok for the first few bites and then I saw a nasty spoiled or moldy water chestnut. It was 100° with a heat index of 117 ° yesterday. My server apologized to me for being very sweaty, and when I asked him if he was just running around too much, he said no that the air conditioning in the kitchen has been broken for 2 months and it's very hot back there. I asked him if anyone has alerted upper management, and he said yes, they have all been telling the district manager for the last 2 months but nothing is being done. They have been told that it's no different than it was last year and they should just deal with it. There is nothing wrong with the food, other than that there's probably sweat in it, and the servers are doing the best they can under the circumstances. But I will not be supporting an establishment that cares so little about its employees that they would allow them to work in these conditions as if this was a third world country. My granddaughter is going to have to find a new favorite place to eat. read more

I live right near a HuHot location and let me tell you - that is a dangerous proximity with how good their food is! The waiters are always friendly, and the grill cooks sometimes chit chat with you while you are waiting for them to be done with your grill order. Almost every sauce is delicious (and I'm sure the few that I don't like are other people's favorites). Here is what I always get and I LOVE it!: Asian Meatballs, Brocolli, Water Chestnuts, potatoes, Yakisoba Noodles with 2 ladles Samurai Teriyaki, 2 ladles Khans Favorite, 2 ladles Burn Your Village Barbecue, and 2 ladles Feed the Hordes Hoisin. SO GOOD! I also sometimes get the same order but nix the noodles (if I'm feeling more meaty that day) and just get extra meatballs in place of the noodles. The grill chefs never blink an eye - I'm sure they've seen everything LOL My husband gets the sausage as his protein with potatoes, green peppers, Yakisoba noodles, and seventy-bajillion ladles of the Black Thai Peanut sauce only. He swears by it and never deviates/is never disappointed by his combo. And definitely get the side salad (it comes with the meal at dinner time). I prefer the one with the asian vinaigrette. Sweet and greeny tasting at the same time. Dessert-wise, the Sweet Victory S'mores are amazing. You get your own little "campfire" at your table, surrounded by all the normal s'mores accoutrements (graham crackers, chocolate, marshmallows). It is a fun little way to end the meal with an activity and a dessert on one. I recommend this place for anyone and everyone - an affordable, but still high quality date night, birthday party, business lunch, anything! read more

HuHot is one of those anomaly restaurants. Hard to describe, hard to hate, and hard to review. Your experience each time is unique and kind of "reliable." I know words like consistent, reliable, and common...are kind of unsexy and unflattering. The Notebook wasn't about this super reliable people's love story. Dune isn't a SciFi ultra-drama about the consistency of the Spice Trade and Sand Worms. HuHot is an adventure though...just the same version of adventure each time. Mr. Rogers was a saint, but he ended each episode changing his sweater and shoes. Sometimes it's not a bad thing to be consistent. Service to me here is always pretty good. Any location. Kind of a surprise because you do most of the food prep and shuffling...you expect them to phone it in. But No. Never had a bad server, always had drinks, and always a Smile. They're not going to win any fashion awards. It's kind of like if Six Flags Theme'd it for "Generally...Asian." And named it "Asian Place." The ingredients are all pretty commonly good. You can mix/match, and go nuts. Tip: you don't have to fit it in one bowl. You can combine two. Use one for noodles. One for meat. Whatever. There are no hidden rules. It's just kind of sad watching meatballs roll all over the place because people try to shoe-horn things into one bowl. Besides, cooked food shrinks smaller. It ends up being better with two bowls. Aim for more sauce than you think. A lot cooks off. As far as what's tasty and best...it's every person for themself. If it was bad? Dude...you did it. Not me. Not the guy behind the grill. Take some responsibility for your life. Sesame seeds, peanut crumbles, raw garlic and coconuts shavings on chicken? You did this. You know what you did. FWIW, I stick to savory. Because of a nut allergy in my family, I rarely get to go to restaurants with peanut sauce or other nut ingredients. I enjoyed my trip to HuHot Mongolian Grill immensely! Our server Stevie was attentive, knowledgeable and helpful, and it was fun to put my meal together. My only critique is of the sauce bar, which had 3 rows of sauces but only 2 labels per row. I finally figured out that it was "mirrored" for the other side of the buffet. The sauces were also pretty messy looking, in sharp contrast to the meat and vegetable choices. I also had a sweet Asian salad that was light & tasty. I ate everything while it was piping hot off the grill so no pics this time. In all, I'd return for another meal! read more

My son and i visited this location last night for a quick dinner. There were only a few people there. We were eventually seated after a longer than expected wait. The buffet area was messy. Many of the food containers were empty or very low. The protein selection was limited and disappointing. It included fake crab diced fish two sausages and the typical chicken pork and beef. The area around the sauces was disgusting. It hadn't been wiped down in a while. The vegetables that were not frozen didn't look fresh. The guy at the grill was friendly. He didnt do a great job cleaning the spatulas between dishes. I sympathize with the person whose meal was next to mine on the grill. I like spice and bold flavors. The waitress did do a good job filling our drinks and clearing the table. Overall it was disappointing. The staff either needs better training or they are very understaffed. read more

We had a Great experience here for lunch. I noticed you can order "To Go" with one big bowl to put in as much as you want for the chef to grill. We dined in with their buffet of meat, chicken & seafood. Their meat is slightly iced over, all the veggies are fresh & they have a lot of sauces to choose from. They don't always have my favorite recipes available at the sauce station, but I have learned to use the app. It has way more recipes, the only problem is you have to either remember it or try to pull out your phone while you're making your dish... I've eaten at all three Hu Hot locations in Omaha, and the N 120th spot has by far been my best experience. I almost don't want to write this review because I want to keep this hidden gem for myself! We went at peak dinner time (Around 6pm) on Friday and were shocked and delighted to see the dining room wasn't completely full. Right off the bat I realized that this was the cleanest of the the three locations. Our server took our drinks and got our appetizer in right away. She was so nice and was great about refilling our drinks throughout our visit! When we went up to the buffet everything was fresh and fully stocked. There was only one grill master working, but he was doing a great job about being quick and making sure everything was cooked through. I went to this Huhot a week and a half ago with a co-worker and it was a very cool experience. I've only been to a Huhot once before this and I can't believe I haven't gone back since! You can opt for the all-you-can-eat option, which most people do, and it's a really cool concept. You go through the line and grab all of the raw meats, veggies, and sauces that you want, give it to the cook, and he throws everything on the grill and cooks it in minutes, right in front of you. It's awesome. Why haven't I been back here in years? I don't know! All in all, the food was amazing and the selection is great. $10 for lunch is very steep for my thrifty-self, but it's definitely worth it. read more

This was my first visit to HuHot at this location. Since this is a build-a-plate buffet, I chose to get a variety of ingredients, including fish (looked like it might be cod) for the meat. The pad thai noodles were tasty, as were all the vegetables I chose. The sauce was tasty, too. I chose to get the meat and noodles in one bowl, while getting the veggies in another. This allowed me to get more of what I wanted for vegetables, while getting enough noodles and meat. The server was polite and friendly, while keeping our drinks filled. Overall, I enjoyed the food and service. The atmosphere was pleasant, with the noise level low enough to have a reasonable conversation. I will return, because that was tasty! read more

We have been to the location on 120 and blondo twice now and both times the buffet is FILTHY. Sauce and other toppings spilled everywhere, and some toppings completely empty or spilling into eachother. The service has been slow both times as well. I like Hu Hot because you can customize your meal and make it as healthy or unhealthy as you want! Plenty of veggies or meat and potatoes! They were very busy for lunch, but service was fast. My only complaint is that there were several veggies in my dish that I did not add, so I think some people's ingredients were mixed in the grill. First time here, and the food was good, but very overpriced. Our waiter, though, was the best!! His name is Patrick, and he has an impressive beard! Upon learning this was our first visit, he told us how to go about things. While we were over putting our frozen food in our bowls to be handed over to the grill master, he brought our egg drop soup, rice, and beverages to our table. The food is good because the sauces are flavorful, but I was put off by the too-thinly-sliced, and still frozen meat. When cooked, it was dry and had a strange texture. I'd chosen the chicken, but at the ingredient station, all the meat (turkey, chicken, beef) was that same way. Even the green beans were frozen. I've been to many other similar grills, and never had to build my meal with frozen food. It was a little unappetizing. Up at the grill, it was nice when just the one guy was there, but then a girl came out of the kitchen and started helping. When she arrived, now it was no longer about the food and the onlooking customers. Rather, it was coworkers chit-chatting at work as though customers weren't all standing there watching. She apparently used to work Saturdays but then didn't and now she's back. She has another job, though, and does nails through the week... unprofessional to say the least. The egg drop soup was gross. My boyfriend and I love egg drop soup, but this was out of a can, I think. As it sat, it separated and the strings of egg sunk, while a layer of clear water was left on top. Water, not broth. And there was no thickness to it at all. Clearly missing cornstarch. There were two tiny carrot cubes in mine, but that was it for any veg. The price for the two of us in this casual place that looked more like a lunch place inside, was over $35 before tip. That was two dinners, and he had iced tea. I had water. Worst dining experience I have ever had. Pulled in to the parking lot and we all already know how the parking lot is. I can usually over look it because the dining experience is usually pretty good. Tonight we walked in and the entire place smelled like the inside of a dirty dumpster. Against my better judgment (due to good past experiences) I decide I would try it anyway. Bad idea!!! Got in line and half of the food items were not stocked. The other half were all mixed together and it was impossible to get a vegetable without getting other vegetables that I did not want. Remember, this entire time, it smells like a dumpster. Asked waitress for a menu, was looked at like I was crazy!! No menu's!!! Asked for a Coke zero, no Coke Zero!! They apparently changed vendors and no longer have the multi capable soda machine. They only have the flavors that are in the wait staffs head because there are no menu's!! Struggled through the food line, sauces where a joke. Man finally cooked my food and he was the best part of the experience by far. Walked back to my seat through the fog of trash and completely lost my appetite. Talked to the manager and she was less than helpful. Gave me other restaurants to try instead of trying to rectify the situation. Long story short, I left without eating. This Hu Hot location is off my list. read more

I love this place but it is a rip off for to-go now. It's not a great place to take a newborn so I don't get to go here as much as I used to. The other day I decided to get to-go for lunch remembering that it seemed to be a decent meal for the price. You used to get 2 bowls and rice for $9.99 (I think it's whatever the lunch time price was). Now it's $11.99 for one "special bowl" which is questionably larger than the regular bowls. I ended up handing it back to the waitress and going next door to Pepperjax. Unless you dine in for lunch, I feel that this place is overpriced for dinner or to-go. This spot is right down the street from us and I've tried it twice now thinking make your own stirfry sounds good and getting let down. This style restaurant probably isn't geared towards me to begin with, so if you like buffet style it may be a little better experience for you overall. I just can't ever seem to get the sauce combinations to be very flavorful and the proteins are sliced so thin and stringy. Service was nice and everything clean and tidy. We eat hu hot several times a year. It's usually great at both the 72nd and 120th locations, but tonight was terrible. They were completely under staffed. We waited 10 mins after being seated for our drink orders to be taken. We waited 20 mins in line to get our food cooked, and because there was only 1 cook, the food was cooked in a rush and came out terrible. The noodles in my 1st plate weren't fully cooked and weren't mixed enough to even have sauce on them all. My second plate was better, but we never got our soups/salads or appetizer that we ordered. The Weather turned cool and some good hot takeout sounded perfect and going to the store did not. I placed our order online then left approximately 5 minutes later for a 7 minute drive. They emailed me the order and the time to pick it up which I saw on my smartphone while driving. I arrived 3 minutes early at the exact front parking stall across the sidewalk from the entrance. I took advantage of that and backed in to the stall. Then immediately while walking in 2 minutes early I can see my ToGo being placed in the ready area. In the background the cook was cleaning up the grill splashing and slashing it. Great timing. Grabbed the order and left after the hostess confirmed. The smell was soo good on the drive home. At home, we opened up our bowls to a steamy hot tub of noodles and goodness--Still so hot we couldn't quite eat it. We blew on the first 10 or so bites eventually. Heat and ingredients were perfect in our dishes and both dishes were different in their heat and ingredients. I'm pretty sure we will return. But If I could truly have it my way I'd prefer a little more meat and vegetables and a little less noodles but I'll just make that a mental note for next time to leave specific instructions to have the noodles on the side. I'd also like to have the chow mein noodle toppings in a container about 5 (FIVE) times as big instead of the 2 oz ramekin it gets packaged in. In fact, I'd like to be able to specifically measure the exact ingredient amount online for each item in the dish while ordering so if someone reading this can come up with that invention I'd really appreciate it.
